interesting thread. I was wondering only the other week whilst watching some coursing in spain if any off our match dogs over here would compete with one of there galgo's. Whats going to happen to our coursing greyhounds, now that's a breed that's fecked because of the ban. Big shame really.

Hancock's Border/beardie Stud Dogs.
FERRETBOY replied to jukel123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Jukel123 are you the same juckler123 ? My dad had a beardie x greyhound from hancock. It was the first dog I was to start hunting alone with at the tender age of 13. The bitch was so nervous of other dogs and I remember it standing chest deep in water so another dog wouldn't come close. Hunting wise she was also nervous of chasing anything, at the age of 2 she eventually started catching rabbits, her best bag being 5 because she started picking her runs. The most annoying part was when we get a squatter and instead of going in for the kill , she would just stand motionless hoping the ra -
A Great Nights Lamping With Lass
FERRETBOY replied to nottzhunter08's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Top night again. Lass just keeps proving her worth each outing. Tomo I didn't take my dog so I could film but she will be out this week. Thanks for the tip off btw. Its funny because I was looking at the same place other week. I managed to capture some great runs, so will stick them on this dvd im hoping to put together. Its a shame the time passed so quickly, thought we might have done the 20. Was does it matter really though. Heres two clips you might like to watch. http://youtu.be/1b_ycLEyfxg http://youtu.be/BBaHbTgNl4s -

Great write up guys and nice video clip, them phones are great, the quality is on par with the camera im using. I might get an invite one day and then maybe I could get some special videos filmed for you. Well done bonnie and the young ferrets. Always a great feeling when they start catching. Heres a clip of gem making a catch when me and her went solo ferreting wednesday. -
Another good read smithie. i . Something happened similar to me a couple seasons ago. The plan was to net a rabbit, go to a woodland and have a get together with my mates, a few beers and smoke with the rabbit cooking on a spit. we gets to this place I intend on netting. I was using trad nets with the help of two mates to run them out. My mates don't actually hunt but enjoy tagging along and were looking forward to the beer session afterwards more than the hunting. Anyway we get the two nets out on the first drop, walk in the field and get a rabbit. Then we tried a second drop which w

Thanks northern lad. I have just been looking at my footage this season so far and already I have enough for a dvd. Just going to edit it together and see how it looks. Mostly lamping footage so wouldn't mind mixing it up with some more ferreting. -

Lamping And Ferreting With Facebook Friends
FERRETBOY replied to FERRETBOY's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The camera is ok, it was the only one in my price range. I am looking to buy a new one with any cash I make from selling a DVD by the end of this season. If you have a look at the video's on my youtube channel you can decide for yourself. I have filmed some good footage with it over the past two years. Agree with what everyone is saying. I have been in the same boat many a time with my own bitch. You expect them to catch everything but sometimes they can be made to look stupid even on the easy ground. Again that dog is 11 month old, first time I have seen it run. It caught one rabbit befo -

The collie cross is a young dog but he was actually lame. He tried running him again but he started holding his leg. Wish the lad the very best with the dog. They is a clip of molly under fly catching squatter that not many have watched. Very fast bitch, great strike and you can imagen a great mooching bitch to have. She knew how to use her nose also and even flushed a hare from a hedge. This hare was lucky to get away, the bitch fluffed him. Thanks again guys, the camera is canon legria hmf506 -
Thursday night I headed to Yorkshire with my mate witton to meet Ryan, a very keen lurcher lad whos been watching my vids on youtube. We were going to just go ferreting Friday but instead we went lamping Thursday night with his friends who are members on here and we did some filming. It was a good laugh and it was great to see some different dogs working but I also took FLY my bitch to give her some runs and she put in a good effort catching 5 rabbits. We ended the night on 21 bout 6:30 am and then at half 8am we went ferreting with ryan who took Molly and again I took Fly again. She was s

Most Rabbits Locally (Walking Distance) On Lamp
FERRETBOY replied to FERRETBOY's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Generally we wont double up. We know Its not ideal, its not really necessary after a rabbit either (we all know that). It could potentially ruin retrieving for example but under certain circumstances it has paid off like on that night we got 16 . The ground is fast and the hedges are thin, everything will have to run perfect for half that catch with one dog. They is no point having two dogs course a rabbit around the field either. If you slip at the perfect time and the risk of a collision is minimal IMO Anyway I took the big rabbit from gem, calmed her down and then let her carry it behind -
Most Rabbits Locally (Walking Distance) On Lamp
FERRETBOY replied to FERRETBOY's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I lamped a couple of local places last night that I drove to. places I used to walk and cycle to. I just missed the rain and the wind wasn't consistent enough. Only saw very few out. Managed a few slips long slips for fly. trying to run that weight of her with small sessions on the lamp. Had the pup with me to watch the beam and fly. One run takes fly around the field and then back towards me. I manage to slip my pup GEM into the run and she catches first strike. 1st run on lamp and 1st catch. Over moon. -
Most Rabbits Locally (Walking Distance) On Lamp
FERRETBOY replied to FERRETBOY's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
You do have to know when to slip, to avoid the dogs having a head on. But very effective if your after numbers. Dogs are always well behaved and wouldn't be fighting over the catch either. Now 36 is mint. -
The most I have caught within walking distance was a healthy bag of 16 rabbits. This was between two dogs , my own bitch fly and nottzhunter's old dog kye. They were the easiest 16 as well. I stood 10 yrds to the right of nottz and when kye was slipped he practically ran the rabbit towards my direction and I then flicked my lamp and slipped fly who either caught the rabbit or turned it back into kye. We had to carry the catch 3mile ish back home taking it in turns with the rucksack. The feeling was very memorable reaching home, making a brew and having smoke. Bless ya .This amount would be

We went out and only managed 2 also. My problem is I cant stop myself from going out, waste of petrol tbh. Well done you that did but you must be as bonkers as I am. Ferreting and mooching until next good weather.

Lamping Local With Lass And Star
FERRETBOY replied to nottzhunter08's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Well done bro, wish I had come along to film. How did that star perfom? she looks a very fit but I know she hasn't done much. We need to start getting further a field now . I don't care where we go, I just want rabbits. As you already know, fly had a few runs last night and was way out of timing with her strikes. I have just measured Gem, just under 23tts. She will get her first go on the lamp in January and I cant wait.
