  1. My opinion is that the genuinely " horrible b*****ds " dont last...............and the decent people regardless of how they earn dough....do last. Thats only a theory based on very basic belief in my fellow man in that ultimately you get what you deserve. People like the old timers spoken of here.....Mclean/Shaw/Richardsons etc all but for tragic illness lived out a good life to a decent age...........the " horrible b*****ds " tend not to reach retirement.
  2. Lennie Mclean,Roy Shaw......and many others like them worked for a living.....straight or crooked they earned money....................................gangsters dont work they live off people who do work.
  3. Over the years ive heard a thousand different tales from a thousand different people about Lennie.....hence i judge by what i see with my eyes and hear with my ears.............i stood next to Lennie ( well behind him most of the time ) along with his cousin Johnny Wall and Dave Sackett for 2 years on the door of The Hippodrome,Equinox and Ronnie Scotts and never once did i ever see him out of line....yes he was plenty aggressive regardless of size but he wasnt paid to weigh people before dealing with them..............Lennie was an old time club bouncer not a trendy doorman.....and there was
  4. The problem is people get the term " gangster " confused with people just out to get money......far as im concerned the only East End gangsters theres ever been were the Krays little firm, simply because they set themself out as a gang from the start............everyone else who was just out chasing money got labelled a gangster !! Lennie Mclean would turn in his grave if he thought he was getting labelled a gangster.......i had the pleasure of getting to know Lennie over the period of a couple of years in the early 90,s and a kinder more polite and generally funny man you would never meet....
  5. Brawlers are just not suited to the amateur " points make prizes " scoring system.............plenty of good fighters have had poor amateur records so i wouldnt let it bother you too much.
  6. I think it will probably be their next fight up.....its good to see the youngsters mixing it without fearing losing to each other its early enough in their careers to get over losses and if the money is there......why not. I think Ryder,s strength IS his strength he looks a very raw heavy handed kid whereas Billy has all the moves and a decent boxing brain, seen him pushing decent light heavys around the gym i think he,ll probably end up a super middle.......but its definately a good little boxer v puncher match up for the future.
  7. Cracking facial expression in the second pic down good timing..........im presuming it is laughing not crying
  8. Watched Billy Joe the other night he,s improving all the time i dont think the Eubank kids on his level yet......theres a cracking lad out of Islington John Ryder who will more than likely be Billy Joe,s next opponent that will be an interesting fight...........its a strong division in England at the moment the middleweights.
  9. Dave was a journeyman who lost as much as he won and was nowhere near British title level.............Sugar Ray Leonard was the world champion of the time and i very much doubt he would of even known who Dave Ward was let alone been scared to fight him !
  10. You dont mean Dave Ward the welterweight,i dont know where Middleton is but this Dave Ward was from Manchester way..............and he was an average fighter at best....................world champion ....i dont think so. Always makes me laugh the old " could have been " title .....world champions dont get into street fights !
  11. It was before the division was introduced of course but Sibson would of been tailor made for super middleweight he wasnt big enough for light heavy,i remember the era well Sibsons camp wanted to avoid the American Bobby Czyz and i think Michael Spinks might still of had the other belt so they saw Dennis Andries as the easy touch because of his ungainly style.........but Dennis was a very tough man and a pushover for nobody Sibson couldnt put a dent in him. That wasnt his last world title shot he challenged Frank Tate a few years later got stopped around the 8th or 9th.......it was the night s
  12. I think this is where sometimes we can be very hypocritical when it suits us......im the first to say to someone " if you dont like it f**k off ".......but theres hundreds of different tv channels these days all we have to do is turn it over if we dont like these characters...........I was at the birthday do of a friend of a friend type of thing in a well known London club years ago......Im not really a clubby sort of person at the best of times and Boy George was there really acting up.....i just couldnt stand it i felt so uncomfortable i got up and walked out rather than make a scene ......i
  13. I think its perfectly understandable to think you had gone wrong somewhere down the line.....my pal is always saying he should of done more " butch " things with him as a kid taken him to sport mucked about with cars etc..............i often say to him your ten times the parent i ever was at least you was there by his side all his life.............and i agree,no matter how you try to " butch " up a kid you cant put in what nature left out...............dont mean to say we have to like it,but we DO have to accept it.
  14. That rings a bell probably the same incident....must of been about 4 or 5 years ago now
  15. Cheers Wilf I must admit i think id find it hard to get my nut round it so i get the struggles my pal is having..............their day to day relationship is different whereas before he would treat him like " one of the boys " kind of thing ......i think he now tries to be a bit more " light " is the only explannation i can think. I understand it doesnt change anything in terms of love......but in day to day living and the father/son relationship i think it has to change something.
  16. sibson ? no he was`ntBut he still had an impressive 55-7-1 record! Beaten twice by the mighty Marvin Haglerthink he only fought hagler once .... probly the best british fighter never to win a world title ... What about herol bomber graham would`nt fight sibbo ---leics v nottm would of filled a stadium sibbo calls herol the limbo dancer .. differant styles would of been intersting fight .. I liked Sibsons style it was all or nothing he didnt have the ability to box his way in but he made the best of what he had he was a pretty brutal puncher as well.......i remember he smashed up Mint
  17. gnash = i think we`ve had this coversation before but did a few of the frankhams fight pro -- were they norfolk way .. I seem to remember he was from Reading or Bracknell somewhere along the m4 there i think they ended up near Newmarket races there was a few brothers last i heard Bobby was on a murder charge so obviously life didnt turn out too well which is a shame.
  18. I dont delve into folks private lives mate....but yes i believe there was an incident with the mother of his kids when they was teenagers that came to nothing,no charges etc. I wasnt aware that Frankham fight was televised he was actually an ok fella and he was disgusted with himself afterwards......but i suppose as the saying go,s " you cant get away from what you are "
  19. Wilf i hope its not rude to ask this......and ive only quoted your post because it rung a bell with me straight away, and from previous posts you sound like a pretty damn good parent to me ! But a pal of mine recently went through the exact situation you mentioned......it took him near 2 years to even admit it to us and i could tell through knowing him years it absolutely broke his heart.......ive noticed small things over the months their relationship certainly seems different, ive spoke to him about it but he says its not.......but i can tell it is i think his pride is dented more than anythi
  20. The reason most of these Gypsy boys cant make it in the pro game of boxing is they are brought up with the complete wrong mentality !........It seems to be ingrained in their culture to be " up for it " and not to back down...................thats all well and good but you need a lot more than being " up for it " to make a career in the paid ranks...............Ive known a number of fighters over the years from travelling communities they just had the complete wrong outlook i was friendly with Bobby Frankham back in the ,s he was a decent fighter but clumped a referee and got a life ban.......
  21. Well ray you have suprised me with your homophobic coments, I have gay frends, and who i work with, with children with special need, and these queers you call them are hard working and caring people, and I would have no problem having a pint with them any day of the week. As for saying if your son was gay there would be something gone, well if any of my kids come home and told me they were gay I would think no less of them than my other children. Think your being a bit harsh on Bird there mate............i think any man would be very dissapointed to have their son turn round and say there ben
  22. No bollocks you made your bed you lie in it....i aint being a gooseberry for nobody !! I bet that cow wont buy you a 99 flake like i would of ...............people like you make me sick hold your hand, lead you right up the garden path.............. You,ll end up a lonely old man !
  23. Pffffff.........sod you then !..................Blown me out now he,s got a treacle in tow !!
  24. Couldnt give a shit he,s not my friend........................if he was my friend im sure something would change for me................he,s not....so it doesnt.
