  1. Im not sure about Stan Kennedy mate i know Jimmy Tibbs was one of his first.......Jimmy inherrited a lot of Terrys ways in his approach to training fighters.....they fell out years ago but Jimmy knew what side his bread was buttered and never denied the influence Terry had on him as a top trainer. Charlies old pub had about a thousand photos up mate ...even i made it onto those walls !!
  2. Yes Last Team Left though I think it would be a while before West Ham will ever if ever be the Last English team in the Champions League :) Thats your opinion...........heres a fact............I cheered my team onto victory at Wembley last year.....did you ?.....no and you havent done for 8 years !!! Its great being a fan of a club trying to win things.....whatever level its at
  3. The game definately swung on that decision i thought Utd looked quite comfortable up to that.......it was a yellow at best, surely in a game of that magnitude refs cant just send players off if theres any doubt it completely changed the game.....shame really.....oh well its all down to Arsenal now
  4. We was all blessed mate........anyone who spent a lot of time with him automatically moved up a notch he was that kind of man.......Cheers
  5. Hello Peter.....Terry was a softly spoken polite old man he probably wouldnt of said nothing, but inside he would of hated it........he despised Frank Warren he used to call him a street hustler with a tie !......Terry had massive knowledge on the history of the game going right back to when the Mafia controlled the game in America he would sit for hours telling us about it all.......he had a deep seated hatred for gangster types which of course there was plenty of in the east end of London back then,he thought they were just vultures.........not many people know but Frank Warren was a cousin o
  6. A nice boring 0-0 will do................but hard to see with Ronaldo playing, should be some game though.....come on the English mob !
  7. Great stuff thankyou .....shes been sat on them 3 or 4 days now but theres still only 2 eggs i was under the impression they normally lay 4 or 5.
  8. Cheers Fireman.....this first year will just be a watch and learn time for me so advice is much appreciated
  9. Well known dog in the ,s in some circles ....think there was a lot of dogs called Hagler same as years later there were lots of dogs called Tyson Terry didnt just change my thinking i doubt there was any of us lads he didnt have an effect on in some way.....He sent Frank Bruno to Colombia as a teenager for laser eye surgery as it wasnt around in England at that time,he carried his career on and the rest is history but he never took a penny off Frank for that ever.....Around that time i was running round with my pals doing stupid stuff chasing money...Terry threatened to ban me from the gym,
  10. Been an interesting read this, some pretty grim stories......i was never a bully or bullied but i was guilty of standing by and doing nothing......our school was one of them ultra competetive " whos the hardest " types where 4 or 5 of us all knocked about together thinking we was all that........i remember clear as anything my pals picking on these 2 kids Laurel and Hardy we called them, just a pair of weak kids who wouldnt or couldnt stand up for themself......it was horrible the stick they got but i never had the guts or character to stop it incase my dopey pals thought i wasnt tough.....Prick
  11. Thats so true mate....having been around gyms and supposedly tough hard men all these years nobody ever left an impression on me like this caring gentle old man did............i wont bore yous with them but theres so many stories about him i can remember clear as day and i guess thats how it works when somebody gains your respect and admiration in that way.......you just cant forget them.
  12. It was the best era for those weights in our lifetime no doubt about it................but having spoken to a lot of the old boys and watched a lot of old fights the 50,s in my opinion would be the greatest era ever for middleweights.....Ray Robinson,Jake LaMotta,Gene Fulmer,Carmen Basilio,Bobo Olsen,Rocky Graziano......and they all fought each other multiples times as well.
  13. My little bird with the Beatles haircut is sitting on a couple of eggs.....how does this work then will they raise chicks in an aviary with other birds in or would i need to move them elsewhere ?......none of the males in there seem to give a shit how am i supposed to know who the dad possibly is.......please dont say Jeremy Kyle
  14. Cracking post there Borderscot.....i totally agree about Jim Watt... to take the title off a big name of the day, defend it a few times before losing to one of the greats......you cant ask for much more than that. Its an old cliche but Terry Lawless really was a 1 in a million sort of person.....he was a man obssessed with physical strength and fitness he really was way ahead of his time in terms of diet and training regimes......a great quality he had was he treated everybody equally.....it didnt matter if you was a world champion or a journeyman he would take equal time and care over you....
  15. Its very rare for a fighter to finish his career the same weight he started at.....It would of been impossible for Hearns to stay at welterweight or Duran at lightweight.......to me " blown up " means forcing weight on like Leonard did to make the fight with Hagler......but the way Hearns and Duran moved through the weights was a pretty natural progression. Sorted
  16. A joke..................the man was a world champion !
  17. I think thats a bit harsh.......Hearns was in his mid 20,s when he fought Hagler......Duran was odds on favorite to beat him....maybe Leonard yes your right......... Hagler was one of those very rare fighters that fought his whole career at the same weight....not many people can do that..... I certainly think the other 3 fought him when it suited them, not the other way round.
  18. i missed the rivalary very bad mad who for i had to retire through the sunburn i got id have taken pacman.oh well. Nothing wrong with my memory..................but i do only speak English im afraid
  19. Not sure id agree with that mate ....What was there natural weights ? They covered 5 or 6 weight divisions over their career and continued to fight at or above middleweight after fighting Hagler so its not like they carried weight to get the fights on with him..................but anyway you make some interesting points.
  20. exacty gnash it was sarcasm as bunce it no better keep up Bunce was a decent amateur boxed for Fitzroy Lodge if i remember right.
  21. Saying that I did like the Ian Darke and Glenn McCrory duo on sky. I thought them pair were good. I liked the Reg Gutteridge/Jim Watt combination myself i thought they was great together a blend of entertainment knowledge and experience............Bit before our time but my ol fella always said Eammon Andrews was a great boxing commentator.
  22. Wow thats an interesting outlook Buttercup....and certainly worth thinking about.......i was referring to middleweights, personally id put him maybe 4th or 5th of all time.........The reason id put him as an all time great is because he beat other all time great fighters.......what you say could be said about any of the other 3.......ok Leonard beat Benitez but regardless of how many titles you win in other divisions ultimately its the opponent in front of you that makes the accomplishment......had Hagler moved up and beat the likes of Barklay,Kinchen,Lalonde,Dennis Andries etc ( very average c
  23. Of course i remember him......but whats he got to do with this thread .................and as for what Floyd said................well what did he say i still cant work it out Never thought too highly of Pacheco myself........cant see how you become an expert boxing pundit having never taken a punch, and making a career off the back of someone else well thats just wrong.......always thought he sounded like a bit of a dick really.
  24. You boys been out on the piss together
  25. What do you make of that channel AFT ? been a bit dissapointing really ive spoke to a few people about it most say the same......thought they would be showing a few more fights from the ages...shame really.
