I get them used to the ferrets first before i go out at all, mostly i find its the faster movement of the rabbit that gets the dogs attention, leave is a command that should be instilled in the dog at an early age,you are not asking when you say "leave" it is an order, the only words my dogs know when out are "rabbit","ferret" and "leave"

Does the ferreting/hunting/lamping season not go on all year then?...then there's the meetings in the pub with the landowner to discuss the pest control operations,a bit of net making (because you are short of nets) some game fairs to see this year's new methods and equipment,a new dog (i just wangled that one) need i go on....and a gullible Mrs for all of the above

I bred two jills, they had 16 kits looked after them together, didnt notice any change but they were forever trying to drag the kits back to the nest then after the kits were gone one of them was dragging the other for a few days

go for the green spun poly mate, nice to knit with Last time I ordered from Nige, he said the brown was better to knit with? So thats what I got, maybe different batches... It was a right pain in the arse getting used to it being so thin, I had about 9 friction breaks in the first few yards, but got there in the end. His longnet twine IS spun poly, and is about as thick as 4z nylon, maybe a little thicker. It makes a nice net at 14 meshes plus selvedge. I then used the thicker purse net spun poly for selvedge. Ok thanks,is double knot best, have ordered the twine, ordered the green before

I got some stuff from agouti that does 45 yards at 14 meshes have been told that 13 meshes is ok for longnet, with a selvedge top and bottom,so am gonna start on that soon as it comes,so dimensions will be 50 yards at 13 meshes which will equal a 25 yard net with 100% bagging,am going to tie a mark on at every say 5 yards so i dont have to keep counting then when i set it up will mark the selvedge and netting at the points where i will put the poles in to help when i set it up in the field, prob do the selvedge in some spun nylon i have for purse nets,am sure someone will tell me i am wrong or g

General opinion is to get some decent twine,i have double knotted and it seems to be holding,am probably going to turn it into a stop net and get some twine from agouti and start again ,has anyone tried the longnet twine from him (link below) it says polyester but no further detail weight etc or if anyone got any better idea's http://www.agouti-nets.co.uk/product/41-500g-green-long-net-twine
-
Ha Ha, yes well spotted, that was a single knot,am going to try a double and see how that goes,if not i will get some from agouti which is what i should have done in the first place.

Yes the twine size was what i am after to see if i can get any bargains

I hate people like you...i spent six months hiding my metalwork project before the teacher crept up behind me and threw it in the bin after shaking his head...

Now the ferreting has come to an end decided to do a long net 25 yards x 13 meshes with a selvedge top and bottom of spun poly, should keep me quiet for a bit will update the pics as i go.Any tips welcome, have made a split in the ring underneath the cord to slide off the meshes.

If you not gonna breed have them neutered i got my two done and having me new ones done about £40 each just ring round for best price

End of the ferreting season means the start of the motorbike season for me.....cant be doing with the soaps....might try and get a socialist revolution going if i get the time
-
Does anyone know the size for spun poly,i have bought some before but sometimes you can get the odd job lot cheap, different sizes used for sewing etc just wondering if anyone knows the specs and yes i am a proper scrooge

That's that plan f****d then, just isn't worth the risk. Next dog will be a pup and i can do things properly So technically you will be poaching for rats.....mmm cant see too many people being that bothered, but when i was pruning some trees once some lunatic said they could hear the tree's screaming in pain....morale is you only need to have a complaint made to plod by a member of the public and as we know they only act on criminal law so they may be obliged to investigate

Im sure joe she everything you say she is, a smashing looking bitch she is, and the big advantage with the lurcher over the terrier they will catch rabbit in the open ground. my terriers are no more than 13 inches to the shoulder making them more nippy around the warren on tight hedges . This is in my opinion the advantage the terrier has over the lurcher, more versatile mopping up on each side of tight hedges. I expect they are pretty quick on a warren in a tight hedge, but what do the rabbits look like after they dog have 'Mopped' them up? depends on the strain of terrier some more soft
-
Pretty much spot on post,i take my terrier basically because she sulks for days if i dont and she dont do any harm, marks the holes than grabs em in the nets,my lurcher gets the bolters and my terrier "helps" the retrieve
