  1. If you want them dried out quickly put them in the microwave couple of mins at a time until it stops sizzling
  2. The collars for the mark3 can be different batterys,I have the old grey one(non magnetic) and the newer black one(magnetic) and they take different battery's I think the newer collar takes 394 and the older one(non magnetic) 393,they are also called by other names such as lr44 etc, Also known as 394, SR936W, 608, V394, D394,LR936, 280-17, SB-A4, SR45, SR936. copied this from e bay
  3. Take all the rings and draw chord off your nets and bin them, get some spun Poly ones or get a kit and make your own, cheap ones are useless and I had same problem when I started.....basically cheap ones are stick magnets!!
  4. I got two jills, they inseparable and like been said two no harder than one to look after, come in handy when working larger warrens
  5. I will try and take a pic of mine when I get a few minutes, too be honest if anyone can get past the dogs, guns etc and get it all out without me seeing them well fair play to them
  6. I take my patt with me ferreting, they will mark the holes, every dog is different but they do have a high prey drive and will be on the go all the time, if I had one dog I would have a lurcher, bit more chilled, it works ok for me though if one bolts, the lurcher will catch it and then the patt will drag the rabbit and the lurcher back to me lol
  7. Took my nine month old bitch ferreting today, still classed it as play time, older lurcher had a couple of runs and she just followed her,not bothered at least she got used to the ferrets, still baby's at that age not expecting too much till she quite a bit older......left me terrier at home today so have got two tired dogs and one sulking like f***
  8. Mine is 9 months not even seen a bunny yet gonna bring her on very gently this winter, think its important not to shout at her whatever she does as think this can put them off for life, she scared of gates at the moment lol so will have to conquer that one very gently before she has a run
  9. 9-13 days, bitch usually puts tail to the side when she ready
  10. Oh dear....some budding Lenny Bennets out there
  11. Interested how peoples dogs walk when working them,my 2nd gen Lurcher tends to go off ahead and do a bit of bushing and looking ahead while my Greyhound/deerhound/collie/whippet tends to stay right by my side, not sure whether this has anything to do with the types of cross or whether it is just the individual dog
  12. Not sure about 500m,but have a look at the cree torches/headlamps on e bay or you tube.with the rechargeable battery's,might not be what you want but worth a look, the power is measured in lumen the higher the more powerful,i use a 1600lm or 1800lm for lamping bunny's with the dogs, this one has colour filters. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1600LM-CREE-XML-T6-LED-Zoomable-Headlamp-Torch-Bicycle-Light-4-Color-Filters-/151080772220?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Camping_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item232d1da27c
  13. Not done a lot of shooting, have mainly been into ferreting,i paid £90 for a slavia 634 which i have become rather attached to,any views on these?,not sure what mine is putting out but i suspect around 10.5 ft-lbs,was looking at getting a stoegar compressor x20,so any help would be appreciated, bearing in mind i class myself as very much a beginner
  14. if don't knit at least one a day i will start to shake and get an urge to drink white lightning, slap the mrs and kick the dogs Paulus,Have you tried net makers anonymous, they may be able to wean you off,or at least cut you down to a couple of nets a week because you are well over the Governments recommended units of nets per week
  15. I would be very interested to see somebody make a net in 45 minutes,am not doubting them but i would like to see the start,a few rows in the middle and end of the net to see how i am doing it different, now i know somebody just cant wait to get onto you tube and show me, I think weighing everything up,get some supplies and do your own, then even if you are a complete idiot (to me diy means, don't involve yourself),then you can call yourself a craftsman!!
  16. I reckon it takes me a couple of hours with adding the chord and peg,i know some people are quicker but thats life,i worked the net prices out as rings 13p each =26p,draw chord at 5p per metre x2m,twine £14 for 12 nets = £1.16 per net, pegs 50p,
  17. Slightly different topic but i was told when you first take them out dont go to grab them as they come out of the hole,as this can spook them, just let them have a wander on top,i didnt do this with my first and every time i went to pick her up she sodded off back down the hole
  18. 3 Jills,only work Jills,not keen on working hobs
  19. When i first started i got a net kit and that said you could make 12 nets at full length or 18 tapered which were probably starting at 8 meshes,i just done one at 8,8,8,10,12,14,15,15,15,15,15,14,12,10,8,8,8,and too be honest i do prefer the full width, mind you i am a tight get so i may try and work out something in between.
  20. I think it can sometimes depend on if they were handled a lot from a very early age,the two i have got were handled before i got them and i can let them sit on my head with no worries,i got another one though last year and she hadn't been handled, too this day even though i have handled her nearly daily she still has the odd nip, young ferts will nip each other in play and dont realise that human hands arent as tough as ferret skin,do you try to discourage him when he nips,i tend to pick them up by the scruff and hiss in their face,so they can associate biting you with something they dont like
  21. I usually do my own nets and have just worked out the price is around £2 per net, thats just getting the supplies off e bay or one of the normal supply sites,i like doing my own nets and nothing like the feeling of catching rabbits in a home made net,but some people are selling them at around £2.50 a net, either they are getting their supplies a lot cheaper or they are only making about £5 per ten nets, for anyone starting up i would recommend getting some decent nets at that price and not bother with getting the cheap nylon nets which am sure you would all agree are an absolute nightmare regardi
  22. I think the polecat ferts were from a middle class background, whilst the new one is from some dodgy council estate!!
  23. Does anyone notice any difference in attitude with different coloured ferrets, only asking because i have only ever had polecat ferts and they are really chilled, got a sandy one now and she is as mad as a bike, now am thinking this is just down to different personalities and nothing to do with colours.....any views
  24. According to the dog trainers "leave" is taught by holding some food in the hand then closing it and saying leave, opening it and saying "take",seemed a easy way to me
