  1. Juts wondered if any one had tried one of the folding spades off e bay for diggin for the ferts http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FOLDING-ARMY-SPADE-SHOVEL-EMERGENCY-DIGGING-TOOL-SPADE-PICK-CAR-SNOW-SHOVEL-/380535851520?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenEquipment_HandTools_SM&hash=item5899b44a00 or can anyone point me in direction of a decent one
  2. I have one of the older mark 3 collars the one where you have to take the batterys out,i recently bought a new type collar (the magnetic switch off type),when i tried the locator on my old collar after testing the new collar was working,it started giving some random signals telling me all the time the ferret was half a foot away which was total crap,it seems to have settled down now just wondering if anyone else has had any probs with the different collars
  3. I bred once, my two jills had 17 kits,i didnt keep any and thought i had homes for them all, some before they were born and a few when they were born so i had done what i could to re-home them, then people let me down and backed out (a few on here too be honest) but i did manage to get them all sorted in the end,my two jills are neutered now and i got two kits last year and they will be spayed this week, You can usually get Ferrets for nothing or a few quid so my advice would be to buy them in,in your case it will be the other person who has to care for them as it will be their jill. Remember
  4. In the interest of sparking some lively debate,no insults please, what are peoples views on lineage would you only buy a dog that you were pretty certain would make a good worker or are you of the view that most terriers have been bred initially to do what they do,i am not trying to say one idea is right and one wrong,i am not a terrier breeder but have bred ferrets, you see that many ads saying from a working ferret as you do with dogs and probably 90% of it is crap, all the ferrets i have got have done what comes naturally,i suppose the chances of getting a good working dog if it is from good s
  5. Am probably just trying to create a mirror of the dam.....sad i know
  6. Am thinking of breeding my smooth coated patterdale, can anyone tell me how the genetics works based on the type of coat the sire and dam have,is it totally up in the air or can you base the pups on the coat type of the parents
  7. i got it last yearended up going to specialist, know u can get it off dogs, never thought of the Ferret, get it sorted fella cos mine ended up a right less
  8. Asked someone on tinternet about using their dog for stud and asked if it had worked, they said it had got a few rats, mice and ferrets...might give that one a miss then....
  9. My young uns went out last week and one got nailed by a bloody dog,she was ok but was worried it may put her off so took her out again today and she was a little cautious of coming out the hole but young uns sometimes jump back down when you go near the hole anyway, she bolted two so was well made up with the little darling.
  10. wats with all the shitty answers around here recently he asked a question and this is a forum thats the point of this asking questions I have had a few shitty answers off people and a lot of good advice,i always try to help with what limited knowledge i have and hope to learn as well...i think some people think they are "King ferreter's" and nobody else should be doing it, we all have to start somewhere and some of the younger lads are obviously interested in hunting and they will be the ones the knowledge will be passed down to and who will pass it on again. have only ever washed my fe
  11. I went out today with my new bumbag...within 5 minutes i had misplaced the battery magnet for the ferret finder....which i later found in one of the bags pockets...but ended up leaving my new spade on the permission
  12. With the ferrets i mean,my fert nailed one below today so young uns gonna be about soon
  13. Just wondering how people do their nets,i was taught to lay them slightly down the hole so as to get rabbits feet into net first,i now prefer to put them flat over the hole, reason being is when i put them down the hole seems easier for the ferret to get tangled up in when they pop up...any views?
  14. Day off work so thought would give it a bash Good day had by all Grabbed a couple as well
  15. I was told to miss feeding them the odd day as in the wild they would not make a kill every day not sure if anyone does this?....they are natural hoarders anyway, as when i lift the bedding theres usually a bit of food they have hid
  16. Thanks all i now have a contact number
  17. The rabbits that survive become immune, the virus then mutates and reappears,so you get sporadic out breaks
  18. i been through that with a hutch and run, pain to clean out amongst other things, have just got a shed from garden buildings direct delivered for £109,put a cat flap on into a run, miles better i can go into shed and interact with ferts, keeps them out the elements and with sawdust down is a doddle to clean and keeps the smell down which will stop flies in the summer
  19. Have read legislation on tail docking but am still not totally clear would anybody be prepared to have a quick chat to answer a few questions,if so could you pm me with a contact number and a convenient time to call, thanks in advance
  20. I lost a mk3m receiver, 2 collars, knife and sharpening stone in a fanny pack, took it off at the car, in a car park to put a hawking belt on, picked up the bird and walked off. Didnt realise till I got home, even then I didnt think nothing of it, I thought it was in my mates motor. I was gutted when the penny dropped... Oh sod it i'll leave it at home
  21. Buddy i can get lost in a field so you only loosing your finder is not so bad but the bum bag is a good idea i have a jacket with about 30 pockets that helps, unless i lose things in the pockets ofc I have tried the pockets mate but i forget which pocket i have put stuff in so when i dont see the ferret for a while i inevitably pull out a pack of fags to try and find it with!
  22. i keep losing or putting down my finder when out with ferrets especially if one bolts,i drop everything and run to the nets, have bought a lttle bum bag and put the finder in that, enough compartments for collars and spare battery's and i keep it right in front of me round my waist so i can access it easy.dont suppose it will get me on dragons den but it might stop a ****wit like me losing everything
  23. I think most amateurs on hunting life are a lot more knowledgeable than some people charging for their services
