If I was the inspector, I think I would just have lost my job. The one with the camera / phone is just an imbecile. TC

The only problem I can see with that tale is that how did Fleming know about it? TC

Apparently Ian Fleming called his mother 'M'. That could be why 'M' rather than another letter was chosen by Fleming? TC

I wondered how the fishermen actually utilised, them ? Thanks for this,.... Most that tie their own flies. It's called dubbing. Another favourite for dubbing is the hair from the inside of a hare's ear. Because it is natural fur it traps air when it goes underwater, so it not only shimmers but moves as well giving a very natural look to a piece of fluff. TC

Rebuilding Old Rtractor Wit Recycled Materials
Tiercel replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
Cheers mate. Engine was re-built not long before i got it so looked like nothing at all but was a good runner. In the latest pictures you can see my "custom" cold starter, a tin of brake cleaner that injects straight into air intake, much kinder on the engine than easy start. There is an original cold start system but it needs a bit of work, might get round to sorting it out one day. Great job, to be honest I was a bit sceptical when I seen the first photos but it has really turned out well. Did they not run on TVO? I seem to remember in the back of my mind something about it, from my -

I bought it when it came out first, It's not life changing or anything but does give an insight into what done what. About 30 years ago I joined one of these book clubs where you have to purchase 4 books every quarter. The prices were dirt cheap and a lot were first editions by unknown authors. One was a chap called Ray Mears he brought a book out on survival techniques. I have never read it it has never been opened. they are going for round about the £100 these days. I had another small book by BB unfortunately not a first but still worth £40 odd quid. I had these books for pennies, mind

I fished for Bass as a living for 15 years during the summer, winters were spent pumping black lug. It's a hard life and you do pay for it later in life the constant banging of the dory plays hell with your back. I could not even guess how many bass I caught in that time, but never caught one on prawn, I have had them on the fly, worm, crab, live Mackerel almost any type of lure. But never had a fish on a prawn, in fact never even tried it. TC

There's a good reason why they say fish crab until June. Male crabs will start moulting any time from now on reaching a peak around the beginning to the middle of April then tailing off, by the middle of may they have just about finished. Once the cocks have finished moulting the hens then start moulting once the water has reached the right temperature. The hen flush is usually over in about month with the middle of June being the best time. Which happens to coincide with the Bass finishing spawning and turning their attention away from sex and on to food. Crab are then the most plentiful

Yes no problem. Just count the meshes if it is 4" mesh multiply the number of meshes by 4" and that will give you the total stretched length of the net. Divide that by 2 and that will give you the length of the net rigged by halves or 100% bag as people erroneously call it. Subtract the length of your lines from that number in your case yards, and the number that is left is what you need to increase each line by. You will of course need to strip the poles off the net to re-set it. 90 meshes every 5 yards will give you a net rigged by halves. TC

Unheathly Interest In Mole Trapping.
Tiercel replied to Tiercel's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
It's not the trapping, I have no real interest in that. It's the moles behaviour, that has fired my imagination. It's got me wondering all sorts of things. TC -
As above I find myself following the mole threads. I have never trapped a mole in my life, to be honest never wanted to up until a week ago. I always thought that there must be more to it than placing a trap in a run, but that is as far as it got. Now, I see all different traps, not one of which is an ultimate fit for all trap, different types of runs main and feeding. It really has captured my imagination. I really doubt that I will buy some of traps just to try them, but boy I am really enjoying the threads. Please keep them coming, then I can keep dreaming I could do that. TC
