I've entered her in the lamping comp on the working whippet forum but it's doubtful wether it's going to take place due to lack of interest. So myself and another member is going to go out for a night in january. If all goes well with her i'll be entering her in the lamping comp on here next year.

Vixen's sire is the show dog, Jess the Dam to Vixen is on the large side (21") and the stud dog i used is 191/2" i wanted to bring the size down a little in the pups to around 20". Vixen is 20" and 30lb. The sire is a very well put together dog that i'm sure if he had the oppertunity would have worked well in the field. Vixen's litter brother recently won a lurecoursing event running against some very good dogs, This dog also works out in the field. I don't intend breeding from Vixen until she's proved herself in the field it's just my way. As i intend keeping a bitch pup to keep the line

Surprisingly mate she's not the fastest whippet i've owned but she's the best dog i've had for catching on the lamp, She uses her head and from experience a dog with too much pace an no brain over runs the rabbits and often smash themselves up.
-
I've broken her to pheasants mate as i do a lot of ferreting on local shoots and didn't want her catching pheasants under the keepers nose. She's also broken to chickens and all livestock except Deer (for obvous reasons).

LOL She continues to improve with every outing, i never start my dogs too young i like to take things easy to start with. The bitch is 18 months old now and is out ferreting twice a week on average and a couple of nights lamping (when conditions allow). I don't over run a dog you know when they've had enough and i never over do it after all the rabbits will be there for another day.. A lot of folk critisied me for using a show bred stud dog (he's never done a days work in his life) but he's a very well put together dog and i have no hesitiation that he'd have worked if he had the oppertu

I Bred her out of my old bitch (line bred sooty sam) X Scarletfair one knight ( fullerton and nevideth lines (show lines))

Well it's been a while since i was out with Vixen on the lamp, what with her recent illness and the ground being solid for over a fortnight i thought it would be nice to let her have a run or two tonight. i left the house at 8.30 and we walked back in at 9.31. she caught the first 3 rabbits not 50 yards from my house!! missed the on her 4th run and then caught the next 7 then she managed to cut her front leg on her last run (she ran into a balckthorn bush after the rabbit) it's nothing serous though only a nick.. 10 rabbits from 12 runs.. she continues to impress me and TBH i'd go as f

presumption and stereotyping.............and prejudice towards a fellow and dedicated hunter your still a copper tough deal with it,unless as a fellow hunter your going to get someone off a hunting act charge?. If it was me they wouldn't be getting nicked in the first place and shouldn't you be worrying about the people who you dont know what they do....rather than the one's who dont deny things and will give you open and honest advice! So honest answer then are you two coppers? and i don't worry about anyone me,not hard talk but only worry when the shite h

Well done mate, you'll never forget that rabbit. The first of many........ I can remember all my dogs first rabbits like it was yesterday, Nice reward for all the hard work you put into pups....

Hi Steve i bred the bitch myself out of my line bred sooty sam bitch back to a dog that i liked the look of even though he was from showlines. Alot of folk doubted my judgement in choosing a show dog but it's paid off for me as the mating has produced some cracking well put together pups that are doing the buisiness out in the field where it matters. Her Dam is Lucky Girl of Mallyfield (Quick as lightning x Fastfly) (fastfly = Sooty Sam x Oakbark Miss Lilly) (Quick as Lightning= Sooty Sam x Fast Fly) Her Sire is Scarletfair one Knight (CH Fullerton Dream Mover x pipijay starlight of

A few pics of my 17 month old whippet, she doesn't race just works (ferreting and lamping)

It could be the filter/lift pump housing mate. I had the same problem with mine and it was the lift pump diaphram,,, also if i used cherry it was a b*****d to start from cold.........

I really like the look of the sire mate, a very nice size too. I've been keeping an eye on this thread and i'm amazed these pups are available at this price. The breeding of this litter is spot on. My fawn bitch has Nevedith and pencloe dutch gold in her pedigree on the sires side and the dam is line bred sooty sam. I have no hesitiation in recommending your pups to anyone who's wanting a working whippet to.

I'm surprised this dog is still for sale, especially at the price your asking mate.

Look in the yellow pages for conveyor belt fitters in your area. I'm sure they would let you buy some old belting. I have a mate who works for a conveyor company and he gets me old conveyor belting for nowt. I use it on the dog benches in the dog run. Just make sure you have a sharp knife, i nearly cut my f**king thumb off using a blunt knife

I have my heat lamp wired up to a roomstat (the type used in the house central heating system) Just make sure you don't put the roomstat right above the heat lamp. Using a roomstat cuts down on the electric bill as it only comes on when the tempreture drops below the temp you've set it at. Just make sure the wires are well out the way.

fair one.. on the shoots i pickup at theres a couple that try both and end up looking like fools. if your dog can do it thats great but alot of dogs struggle to know when to stay at heel to be set out and when to fan out themselves. My lab bitch does both, If the dog has been trained to a good standard there's no reason why it can't do both. We pickup on one shoot and beat on another. On some drives were asked to pickup and visa verse. You just need a level headed dog that does what it's told. I also use my Lab to dog the birds back to the woods and coveys throughout the summer and s

Thats a fair lamp you've got in your avatar, reminds me of one i bought from argos years ago, my mates used to call it a wok!!!!. It was the best lamp i ever owned apart from the size... it was the tightest beamed lamp i've seen. Unfortunately they discontinued selling them just before i dropped it!!!!

I had a walk out with am mate who wanted to see my young whippet run. She caught the first 5 from 5 runs missed a couple then caught a right cracker after a 200yd slip. The bitch caught 12 from 17 runs. Most were longish slips as they were up and off as soon as they saw the lamp. I'm well pleased with the little bitch she's improving everytime i take her out.. All rabbits retrieved live to hand
-
Nice one mate, i've just got back in, been a good night not too many rabbits about managed 12 from 17 runs.
