  1. Well done mate, the first of many i'm sure. She'll steady down after her first season. My pup Vixen was hyper before her first season now she's a force to be reckoned with on rabbits, either lamping or ferreting. keep us informed on her progress
  2. I'd go for a Labrador, especally if it's your first gundog who knows you may get a lab that retrieves more than one bird at once!!! (i know it's frowned upon in the field trail and gundog community but i thought it was a good shot anyway lol)
  3. Nice one, Don't forget to mark the bitch you've chosen mate. they change so quick. I clipped the fur on my lab pups tail when i picked it at 6 weeks old. Glad i did as they all looked the same at 8 weeks old!!!
  4. Are the sire and dam hip scored and eye tested mate??
  5. The fawn bitch i'm running at the moment has stamina to burn, she recovers very quick after good long runs and is ready for her morning walk at 6am after a good nights lamping. I put this down to keeping her fit and on a good quality diet. My philosophy is you only get out of a dog what you put in. I feed mine a little in the morning after a good nights lamping (she gets a lb of raw lamb) after her morning walk. Cold doesn't seem to bother her if i've got a lead in my hand come rain or shine she's wanting to be out. Whippets do seem to lose condition when worked hard, but if you feed a good
  6. I feed her raw lamb and beta greyhound, she gets 2 x 2 miles a day road walking and some free running. As well as a couple of nights a week lamping. I started ferreting last weekend so we'll be out a couple of days a week from now on. I didn't start working her proper until after her first season as she was a little slow maturing physically. She's doing well on the lamp and if her first time out ferreting is anything to go by she'll earn her keep.. She's a really steady laid back bitch a real pleasure to be out with.
  7. Yes Luke she's a ped out of my old bitch Lucky girl of Mallyfield x Scarletfair one knight, she's had a few spins on the longears connecting with 3 upto now
  8. I can't say I'm into playing tug of war with a rabbit and a whippet mate. My bitch retrieve's rabbits live to hand and she's got a very strong jaw. I like to eat what my dogs catch
  9. To save me the trouble of retyping i'll just quote yours mate as i agree with everything you said. Here's the bitch i bred last june, she's 20" and 30lb she's doind all i ask of her out in the field and also picking a few rosettes up at the lurcher shows (whippet and sighthound classes).
  10. I was one of the Photographers for Westbar photography, If you pm me with a discription of your dogs, i'll email you some thumbnail pics for you to look at. You can then order if you like any. We are more than happy to post the photo's on to you. It may take me a while to sort through the images as we took over 3000 shots Think it was you that took the pictures of our whippet x beddy, we were against you in the whippet final with our little fawn bitch pup who got reserve to your winner (well done by the way). Thanks for that, I liked your bitch, she'll be a cracker when she matu
  11. I always use 1/2 choke for the geese unless i'm shooting in scotland then i use full (you can shoot lead in scotland). 1/2 choke when using steels shot is equivalent to about full (when using lead) anything above 1/2 choke isn't recommended when using steel shot

  13. 1/4 goes in the bottom and 1/2 in the top That's what i said mate doesn't help me much though as i can still miss
  14. I'd just put 1/4 in the bottom barrel and 1/2 in the top mate, you'll not go far wrong with this combination for rough shooting etc
  15. I've ferreted that bit of land in the past (with permission from the Keeper before the race horse stables moved to were they are now) and from experience you need at least 4 ferrets in there mate to shift them in numbers there really deep, i've had them off the 15' collars at times it's like blackpool beach!!!!. I've shot the fields at night with the farm manager for the past couple of years and there are dozens of rabbits run into the old railway embankment. If you give me a shout when your going again i'll give you a hand if you want i've got another 7 15" collars and 7 ferrets here as well
  16. I'm a little confused you say glen 'strike while the irons hot' is the sire and say the sire is 3/4 whippet 1/4 greyhound???? how can this be when glen is a KC registered pedigree whippet???? (i've seen glen at mikes and have a copy of his pedigree here) therefore the pups should be 3/4 whippet 1/4 greyhound shouldn't they??
  17. What a load of Bo****ks. have you ever owned a whippet????
  18. My friend picked up a jill that was running around the street on wednesday 21st, I have her here if it's yours.
  19. Great tip totally agree, What i've found best is feed them at dusk and feed them just enough, make sure everything is cleared up. I feed on the edge of the water and never stop around long, i get them fed and off i go. 3-4 weeks before the season i shake a bag a few times when i feed them and is enough to get them up flying. I do this 4-5 times a week up until the season starts and all the ducks fly well. We've always got our ducks from a supplier in norfolk. The key is as little contact as possible. Don't allow anyone else to go and feed them. We shoot in the evening so the ducks a

  21. chuck a dead rabbit in the trap mate with it's guts out, works everytime for me
  22. I spoke to Mike earlier today he hasn't any pups at the minute. However i can recommend his stock i have two bitches bred by Mike and they are both good workers with good stamina. What happened to the whippet you had boom????
  23. Firstly I'd go for two legged vermin. Reposition it next time. I had this happen to me once and i left a note near the opening asking the culprit which leg he wanted breaking first. Hence i never had another bird taken out the trap. Secondly the wild pheasents on our shoot are nesting and some are actually sitting. IMO it's too late to be catching up now mate.
  24. I wouldn't use Landywoods as they delivered me 200lbs of rotten tripe then they had the cheek to ask for payment I told then where to go. I use TPMS there meat is second to none. TPMS WEBSITE Ask to speak to Adrian he'll beable to help you
