  2. Not asking anyone for abuse about this lad just your opinion True story on mon morn had to take the dog to the vets .Waiting room full in walks a man in working gear and tells the lass on the counter that he has hit a pheasant with his car and he has it in the boot could the vet look at it as it's in a bad way behind him is a big hairy farmer who just shakes his head and as he court my eye he grinned and rolled his eyes well i had to look away .My turn for the dog to see the nurse.when i come out i put the dog in the truck before i settle my bill .outside in the carpark this lad is leaning on
  3. had a look if the dogs are kean to retrieve then don't let them go after the dummy staight away make them sit count to ten and then send will stop problems of running in and also lets them know who is in conrol .also vary the length of time before you send them and always finish a lesson by making them stay and collect the dummy yourself dont let them predict your next command .get a good spaniel training book and read it.
  4. ok started this topic and explained why i used two dogs on a hard day .promised a keeper friend that i would beat for him as he was short on men and dogs could'nt take both dogs as one is in season so took my youngest along as i hav'nt beat here before i did'nt know what sort of day it would be .Turned out to be a bloody hard day both for me and the dog working very steep valley coverd in windfall and brambles proper spaniel country to make it that bit tougher nowts been knocked back with the weather in fact we even came accross lots of snowdrops pushing up anyway the dog worked in top gea

  7. our little shoot;s first season some years ago we have two teams on waik and stand one lot beating others shooting so each team captain had a radio.then on the next shoot day did'nt some of the syndicate bring there own radios so we now had ten guns with six radios between us thats six lots of advice and input we cold'nt cope with had to nip this in the bud so we did.nt let on witch channel we used as for noise some lads just get on with beating and some are very vocal no matter how many times you try to get them to shush up they can't help themselfs but as said before we aint a big shoot ,

  17. had a look at the pedigrees of the dogs i have had back to the 's the farthest red is four generations back and the closest is sired by a ftch all the dogs (bitches) where all a simillar stamp close coupled medium sized and all worked at an eager pace hunting hard to find and flush .these dogs main work was and is hunting all types of quarry on rough shoots i.m.o. the drive they have is and should be in all e.s.s.but i do think that if you are useing the dog doging/beating/ retrieving work day in day out over hundreds if not thousands of birds that the hunting drive becomes jaded and the dog
  18. intrestin topic a dog doing 10/12 hours work a day 7 days aweek is some dog. a dog being out of the kennal for 10/12 doing bits here and there a diffrent matter be nice to no what feed the dogs get cos plain ole biscet out of the bag wouldnt hold em. they need to be fed good red meat with belly pork for the fats to keep a body on the dog no callin you a liar but to do them hours you must be worryed with heat exhursion fair play to ya thro Mate if folks read my post they will see that I said 1 day on 1 day off not every day and I clearly said they where not worked continuously ,No they
  19. Mate I aint arguing with you or criticising your dogs if your happy with your dogs thats great but you must see the trends I point out within ftch rich pedigrees and to be blunt a dog as only does 3 hours wouldn't last a week in my kennel the job don't stop just cause pooch looks tired anyway should you ever be down this way pop in and see what these dogs can do they aint nowt flash just honest dogs that can be relied on to do the job all day long happy to have look at the dogs lets know your location if its not to far we can meet
