  1. Do the books work out then mate is it worth the effort from a financial point I can see half of the pleasure is from doing the work and putting in the effort but wouldn't it be easier to buy small days? break about even but then i do'nt have a keeper to pay or make a living out of it as for buying days yep easier but for me not as good .if you want to banter on this subject we should open a new topic and stop HI-JACKING THIS LADS .SO TO GET BACK TO HIS OFFER he obviously thinks his offer is a good un thats why he made it.
  2. Hi from a wanabee keeper whe runs a small shoot buys poults pellets corn cartriges guns cloths dogs dog food kit to make pens drinkers feeders eggs incubaters keeps ferrets beats on other shoots and has a proper job through the week i know its an industry to some but i think i hold the moral ground over the corperate shooter who turns up on the day but as we all know it's money that keeps any industry/ activity going my point is there has to both types of shoots to keep the sport going if it gets to exclusive then we help the antis make the sport an easy target to turn joe public against

  6. hi mate basics don't have eye contact when the dogs bringing it in and get down to accept retrieve + with the dummy or bird when you accept it from her give her it back and gently take it again try and get a bit of fun back into the training just advicing what i have done myself. atb and hows things with you .

  8. troy boy gundogs are used to flush game not to catch it this would be seen as a fault in the gundog world so you might get a more informed reply from a different section.a.t.b.
  9. my grandkids watch this yet they get told of if they talk broad geordey or pitmatic who teachers them this i hav'nt a clue do you think rastamouse will ever be a judge on an american talent show.
  10. i respect the fact that your pal rescued this dog and you now have taken it as the family pet and will give it a good life .but you seem to have a chip on your shoulder about the people who work with and use kc reg dogs. and i must make the point again retrieving is only a part of a gundogs work and i only state this as again you write and i qoute (beating other dogs at their own sport) scurries are not a sport just a bit of fun a bit like flyball is only part of the training an agility dog gets .I do agrea that there is snobbishness in the gundog world but ain't that the way with many thing
  11. do you work the dog on a shoot as well as enter it for scurries there is more to gundogs than retrieving not knocking you or your friend and his dog but your post is taking a pop at the gundog world .ps i don't trial my dogs or anything but i do know how much time and work goes into training gundogs.
  12. Due to time wasters BUMP.
  13. two places left in the shoot guns don't have to have a dog (dogs are still welcome but we have enough to cover the work ) walk/ stand two teams with maximum of 5 guns a team, total 10 guns £400 p.g.p.s.minimum 8 days with duck flighting at the end of the driven days+ boxing day+ in january most sats depending on what game is on the shoot we can expect to hunt most quarry from rabbits to snipe and woodcock . also walk about up on small grouse moor and a few boundry days shooting rabbits over the dogs .D.i.y. shoot but its up to you how much you get involved with the shoot as most of the guns wo
  14. wanted a range finder but just to set up some distance markers around the shoot price is to much for this job got me thinking about a pool of gear that folk on here will have that you use but not all the time you don't want to sell it but you could pool it with the idea of hire or loan. example spotting scope ,range finder ,elecr coller etc, etc.what conditions would help this work like face to face and deposits .any thoughts

  22. is she the only dog you have if not and the others stay close let her run with them and call others back to you and take no notice of the cocker and when she settles down call her in.or when you feed her or go to her kennel don't fuss with her at all even to the point of turning your back to her and soon as she gives up trying to get your attention call her to you what you are trying to do is call the shots and not give her the idea that she is in control hope this makes sense to you .to try a keep her close when hunting seed the ground with a few tit bits and indicate to the dog were you'v hi
