  1. Keep the hutch on eye level with terrier, for the start anyway. Gets them used to each other without. Just be careful of mesh, dogs can get their tongues nipped. Not had to break an adult russell to ferrets but mine is soft as putty with them and the hutch is in her run at eye level.
  2. Don't know the pub, but do remember a fish van used to go round the houses around pole hill regular selling cockles etc. Would have been around that time too.
  3. How's things. I'm in the magherafelt direction.
  4. That's what I thought would be more productive, even walking my own ground they are roosting already early evening. Do they approach the wood into the wind or with the wind behind them?
  5. Aye, makes you wonder what his thinking was behind it. Tragic at the same time.
  6. Didn't get to it last night so plan again for tonight. Only have 6 full body deeks, but will see what's what tonight. Not my ground so can only get up with the guns.
  7. I am planning an evening run out with some shooters on pigeons, will be around 6pm that we go. I am not sure if it's worth useing decoys or not, will they still be feeding at that time or would it be a better idea to throw up some netting and just catch them coming into roost? I'm not a shooter and the blokes I am going with are clay shooters and a bit of rough shooting, farmer has asked to clear them down a bit. Sorry if it's a daft question.
  8. These will be good kits. Well bred and reared.
  9. Vegetarian-- old indian word for bad hunter.
  10. Had a look round this farm today, 34 acres. Big chicken sheds and fields all round. Nice bit of ground, to much cover for seeing much but I was shown where the hot spots are. It's a nice spot, boundary on a wee fishing river too, was a bad time of day but saw one bunny and found a likely foxy spot too. The surrounding fields have sheep in until the end of august so all the grass is well grazed. Sheep are funny though, i jumped in at one end of a field and they all ran off, then ganged up at the other end and ran back towards me, maybe 60 of em haha This farm isn't hunted or shot so t
  11. You know your stuff, was taking to the breeder yesterday. It's from a laenvelder hen and a white dutch cock bird. Trying to breed the laenvelders down a bit.
  12. Thanks, your pup looks a goodun too. put's me in mind of mine when I got her. Like theses smaller russells, may not be the best dog, but they have their uses. Handy to have a dog that can squeeze through stock fence when she wants hahaha
  13. Very handy dog to have ferreting too though.
  14. I got 1 at 10" ish. Took her off ferreting and bushing for now as she was going down holes. Try her at other stuff this year and see what she wants to do.
  15. Is she in season, or due in? My wee russell is good as gold until then. Then she wants to start with other dogs.
  16. The middle one is a cracker. Nice size. How does it work?
  17. Still have two workers, just this one was one I bred myself. It's just the sad fact of life.
  18. I'm about to make two runs of 7"x20"ish, Plenty of time for excercise out should be good enough for most dogs. I hope
  19. Just got in from evening stroll and went to do the rounds feeding etc. Fed the ferrets and I could only see 2. Bugger thought it had slipped out. Got a torch and checked yard. then looked in the cage. Could just see a tail. She was lying dead in the bedding. Must have been a while as she is cold. Bit of a surprise. She was fine last night at feeding time. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary today. Was a sweet wee thing, Polecat mitt, born on my wifes birthday 4 years ago. She was only a pet as she was great to handle but killed as soon as she connected when working. Everytime
  20. in the middle, big place haha Not really my home town, I'm a blowin, but I adopted it as home. Can't get map on screen. wee place outside maghera though.
  21. I bought a wee bag of firelighter sticks for 45p put a point on one end a drill a hole in the other. I had to sift through them to get good ones but still have half a bag in the shed. work well enough for me, and cheap to replace.
