  1. !7? seventeen? WTF , thats craziness, who are these people? I'd never let the dogs outta my sight , not even for a second. Sorry to hear of both your loses, good luck in getting them back. :aggressive:
  2. if only there was an easier (cheaper actually) to get that stuff across the pond, my dogs would be wearing strong stuff as well.
  3. Id give railyards a go as well. The railcars are always leaking something or other that rats would eat, and they are out of the way of the general public and never are frequented by the pest man to poison them. I work for the railroad here in detroit michigan , and we have rats, racoons, possums, fox, groundhogs. They are all over the place in a railyard. With railyards not moving very frequently (read never), the dens get very large and established. Give a railyard a go and give me a shout when you have success there.
  4. next year he should be ready to give the fox a go eh? 14 weeks is way early for sure but i can understand the urge to let the lil nipper off the leash and all. Has he been on to anything yet? keep us updated, great pics
  5. You are surrounded by farms in nebraska Im guessing? Start knocking on doors and asking, whats the worse that can happen? They say no? If they have a problem I'm sure they are going to welcome your help. Good luck with the pup.
  6. Do you have to do business directly with B&F or are there retailers out there who sell their stuff as well ? Id be looking for a B&F dealer here in North America if someone can point me in the right direction.
  7. The pics on that site look real enough. But I'm still left wondering if anyone is willing to step forward and say they have used or been out with someone who was using hurricane bred dogs out on a dig.......
  8. my pup was born june 15 and has only had the first of four jabs, he's lined up for second set this week. and then another two weeks and then another two weeks and the final fourth shots. Just curious, how often do you fellas over there have to re up your rabies jab?
  9. First class across the board. Those are some damn fine boxes for sure eh? You'd be taking my order for a double set up if we lived on the same side of the atlantic. Once again, first class top shelf work. hastings
  10. Id put the dog on a good firm course of clavamox as a preventative. if not clavamox some other antibiotic of a mid grade potentcy. Better to spend the money in prevention now aas opposed paying for it later. Id also definately up the dogs allowance of protein. Its going to take a lot of protein to heal a cut like that , thats alot of mending to be done in those pics for sure. .... one other thing are you going to use just the stitches visible or is there a nexaband hexaband type adhesive in there as well? if using an adhesive remember to leave the lowest spot and the deepest gashes open , as t
  11. Its been awhile since those pup pics were taken, I'm curious how things are going now that time has past. Any chance of an update?hastings
  12. I couldnt see the first pic either jigger, anyone have any lucK, would definately like to see it myself
  13. just finished reading a book, "a sporting chance" written by a fella named Daniel P. Mannix in 1967 its a good read, plenty of pics as well. All sorts of hunting stories in it. Theres a chapter in there about "the plucky little terriers" An eight page account of a badger hunt in sussex. Mentions a few different terrier clubs of the era, The working terrier association, the oxford badger club etc.... A good read about hunting ole brock.
  14. Craig yes these are a age old line from ireland and are very rarely let out ,and yes there is a man in the USA who has a breeding pair direct from ireland ,he is in illinois and is a big breeder of gamedogs he breeds Tudor /Mayfield dogs. I know his patts did stick a couple of months back but she did not take, but i know he will be trying again when she comes into heat . Scar, where in illinois? I'm in southeast michigan currently and illinois wouldnt be that far of a drive. If you dont want to post on here , send me a pm with the info? thank you
  15. shooting rabbits on the run, in the dark AFTER putting the ferret box down gentle so as not to bang it around is one hell of a shot.
  16. hey hastings, he is growing very fast. he was at the vet for his 2nd shots and weighed 3kg (that's about 6.5 lbs for the yanks) he is 12 weeks today. went out in the argo again. discovered new trails, pretty cool my 9 yr old daughter caught a garter snake and I really wanted the little fella to rag on it and play with it but my two daughters wouldn't have it ( the other daughter is 6 ) they wanted to let it go unharmed cheers mad al but wasnt it the nine year old who turned to her mom after my maggie pulled that dead racoon out of the hollow of the tree saying "but mom t
  17. that is one fine looking dog, beauty coat, strong head , great proportions..... keep us updated
  18. Its my opinion that the younger you can get them the stronger the bond. The pup I've now, was with me at six weeks, very little independence at that age. He wanted nothing else to do but to be with me. Now its a few weeks latter, hes a little bigger and lil more independant. I think anywhere from six to eight weeks is a good age to be bringing the pup home. As for the breeding thats all up to you. Good luck and happy hunting
  19. And lads what if there isnta senior dog about, what then, any advice for a fella with no senior dogs or dogs with experience. I'm sure there are people on here who are going to run into that situation as well .
  20. Looks like hes growing up fast, have you had him on the scales lately, how big has he gotten? And exactly ( in weeks) is he ? keep the pics coming. hastings
  21. Tough day out is still a day out, and thank god the terriers got out after being skunked.... coulda been fatal. Nice pics, was curious about your shovel... Who makes it and where did you get it ? Always on the lookout for a good shovel. Is it forged or tempered?
  22. Mouse, I am with you on that idea all the way.
  23. I'm guessing you don't know too much about digging or terrier work in America? They tend to favour a smaller dog over there as groundhogs make up a lot of the diggable quarry. Sorry my mistake, didnt notice the flag, apologies, I have not had the pleasue of working terriers in America, however, I do have a few friends who have been there and they advise me the work ios very different to here. Tally Ho So is it strictly fox and rats over there for you lads? and i guess we could include the occasional rabbit for some i suppose...... Im thinking i like the camaraderie and shared
  24. yeah, the fox is all gone. don't know if it was the bears took the carcasse or something else. well, getting the little pup used to the boat while he's young. out with the wife and girls and our old lab and little patterdale. caught a pike. lost 3 others, one right at the boat. caught a little smallmouth bass too (chucked it back) cheers boys Im thinking it would be cool to post those pics of the old lab as a young pup and see what the fellas think....
  25. The locator? not sure what you mean by that... Are you meaning the collars themselves or the lads digging to the tykes wearing the collars? not sure what you meant in either case, maybe you could explain a bit more
