Looks like you had a good day. It's an exciting but apprehensive time the first time you take a young dog. I took mine for the first time today and it turned out a good day, after a iffey start.
Another good day, but I think the weather put a lot of people off, both not wanting to stand at a show in the rain, and also the recent rain has made the ground runable after such a long dry spell and people wanting to be out hunting. Still we had a good time and I'm glad people thought the racing went well. We seem to have got it how we want it now with the pulleys and lure machine.
I dought it will get any better to be honest., but with out seeing the full picture we can only guess....but at 3 years old it should be in his prime and rabbits should be no problem...it does sound a strange cross though.
Well I went out last night with my young dog......ran about 8, caught 1. I, like most would love to have a night like tomo and his mates do., Plus, I've been to the dales (daytime) and even with plenty of rabbits, you still need a good, clever dog.
Cops came to me Thursday night.... He was moaning that he had to race here from 30 miles away with the blues n twos on. I said don't be mad with me mate, I'll wasn't the one who rang the police! anyway after about 20 mins he left me too it. By that time though the rabbits had gone to bed.
Nice pup. Don't worry about the speed mate if there bred right. My old saluki x looked like a pure saluki, lots of feathering but a bit heavier than a pure saluki to look at.... But when I used to course him doubled up in comps, not many dogs beat him to the first 3 points. ATB.
I think all collie Xs are stupid........all bull Xs lack grit and determination......and all the saluki Xs I've seen had no stamina and have shit feet!
The ones on my door step are semi tame, as in they will be out feeding and you can walk within 30 yards of them and they will just ignore you!! One even squared up to my young lurcher once and made her back off. That was quite a strange sight to see!! This place is full of dog walkers so they just don't seem to have the fear as their rural relatives.
I was just starting to read the Weaton x topic, and when I went from page 1 to 2 it vanished!! Am I missing something here... Just curious that's all as I only read the first page. Cheers
Are you lamping the same fields as before in your previous posts, as that's a hell of a lot of rabbits, or do you only do one patch once then move on? And as for the fox question, I was having a walk round the dales once (or it might have been north Yorkshire) with a mate, and i asked him if he sees many foxes. He said in all the years he has been working his dogs up there on the rabbits he has never seen one. With that we came upon a stink pit with a live fox caught in a snare, and near it was about 15/20 fox carcases! Just goes to show they are about but must keep a low profile.
When I'm lamping I will probally see more badgers than foxes. One night whilst lamping on foot (so only covered a few fields) I see 9 different badgers. I didn't see that many rabbits lol!
