  1. I used to think that about keepering jobs until i got involved helping a keeper friend out. What i learned was it was hard work, relatively poorly paid, little if any job security and stressful into the bargain. About a year after i started helping him he asked if i had never fancied it as a career myself. My answer was nobody in this country is rich enough to pay me to do it. I fixed broken aircraft for a living and i am glad i did.
  2. Put that crack pipe down and step back! ? No it was a discussion we had yesterday whilst working up at the shoot.
  3. So, which is the better all rounder and one hundred and twenty yard fox killer? Or is neither up to it and Hornet is the way forward? Sausagedog should be the oracle on this!
  4. I had been meaning to buy one of those Hardox 500 fox targets for ages, so this week i did. They are really handy for zeroing/load developement of rifles at good ranges as you can see where you have hit. My eleven year old (just) grandson wanted to learn to shoot the .204 so i arranged to take him this afternoon. The weather had turned a bit inclement actually, fine drizzle, but he still wanted to go. After a do and don't lecture from me i let him have twenty one shots. He did remarkably well really at one hundred and twenty yards. I will take him every week until he can consistently hit the
  5. FAC air is a very useful tool on the squirrels and corvids. Well done on getting rid of the pests! What air rifle are you using?
  6. For several weeks i had been hiding bait on a field down the road from me. When i say "hiding" what i mean is putting bait down out of sight of corvids and buzzards. I knew there was a fox about because i saw it one night, however it also saw us and trotted off. I didn't bother trying to call it back as experience has taught me that all that would achieve is educating it to calls. I decided to bait the field and just randomly wait for it sometime later. To get to this field i have to walk or drive through another field which is a tad over six hundred yards long. At the end of which is a low th
  7. Every one of those killed has done something else some good.?
  8. David, if you are using "vixen in heat" i am assuming that you are using a foxpro or some other electronic caller. Which means you are a second rate hunter according to some sources. However if you have managed to master "vixen on heat" and "Dog fox territory" by sucking and blowing air through your arse cheeks you may be upgraded to hunter first class! ?
  9. Yes we can see that from your photos!?
  10. I would think most people have their rifles AOLQ so if the calibre is is actually legal for that particular quarry it is automatically "conditioned".
  11. I finished up shooting 40grn federal premiums out of the 223 that i had and eight years ago they where 29 pound a box.
  12. Little owls kill a lot of song birds in the hedges at roost.
  13. Excellent! i would love to hear your rendition of "vixen in heat" or "dog fox territory" by sucking on your hand. Perhaps you could record it for us and post it on here.
  14. They haven't defined "short journey" so the onus is on them to do so. As that would involve a court case and them having to spend lots of dosh they don't have, i am reasonably confident you won't get challenged on it.
  15. Bollocks to the chavs gun, that toaster is absolute quality.?
  16. It was always going to be a gamble whether or not to put birds down this season. However i have a feeling from our lot that covid or no covid, lockdown or no lockdown shooting will take place.
  17. I would of taken it straight back as not fit for purpose.
  18. Anywhere there are students or pakistanis the virus is rife.
  19. I can't help but like Morgan Freeman.
  20. Well now this is something else to consider. When i didn't know any better and had a Tikka T3 lite in .223 i started off using Hornady superformance 53grn ammunition. Occasionally i would miss a fox that i really should of hit but just put it down to me. Until one night when i missed one that absolutely should not of been missed. So i decided to have an extended session on paper to see what was going on. It turned out that every third shot or so would keyhole and be nowhere near the p.o.a. I thought that the twist rate 1-12 must be marginal for that bullet weight and decided to
