If anyone thinks the Talpex is powerful, they ought to try the 'Out-O-Sight' mole trap from america. It cannot be hand set, need special setters to get the bloody thing set....and it would defo break your finger!
-
I NEVER do anything with the hills, until the traps are set. Once set, you'd be surprised how many moles you catch as you're knocking the hills flat.... Get the traps in first.....
-
Kick a mole hill down either side of the trap. You'll find it then. It is rare I use markers. Only on the real rough stuff. If you need to spray anything will do. I like to dip mine in rustoleum solution....but thats just me.
-
Spray the top half black/brown/green and don't use a marker.....they can't nick 'em if they can't find 'em.....
-
They would be a piece of piss to make...just need to use piano wire.....

Oh, I charged handsomely! I've only had four this season Matt ha ha I think it's the first time that such catches have been captured on film...maybe..... On the place where I've been catching the white moles I've been filming lifting every trap, but none have been white! Typical ha ha I love ho clean they are, despite living in a muddy wet tunnel system! Are you getting them stuffed jd I will do if I can find a cheap taxidermist...going to give three to a mate who wants a silver, a white and an orange stuffing....might slap one on ebay to see what they fetch...if anything...

Bethels are shit IMO....I said that 4 years ago on a thread and many disagreed. the wire was like putty, to soft and the mole would probably bend the wire if it wanted to. I do like the FP, though they seem to have put their prices up. I've got a few stainless and I really like them, but they';re expensive too and I think that the spring strength is maybe just a tad on the strong side....I've had lots of success with them though...now...if someone could invent a talpex that could catch doubles....hhmmmm.....
-
They need to be made out of piano wire IMO... thats the stuff that alot of good springs are made of.

Perthshire....are you on about Fenns?

Got these two today. from the same place I've caught the other ones each year. Got them on film too. One in duffus and one in Talpex.......

I have found them brilliant. Only one foul catch in many many catches. Every head catch has been dead. These are genuine kness traps....
-
Someone's had a nice meal......ha! I find lots canibalised in traps, but as yet, never had one eaten in a snare....
-
I believe that the issue with the talpa firing and not catching has nothing to do with spring strength. Alas, our strict non educational policy does not allow me to elaborate I dis-agree.....
-
I started off with the Talpa's, but I had a frustrating year of not catching in them despite the trap being triggered. I was told by a certain person on here to set them so fine that 'a goldfinches fart' would trip them. I bet they had some chuckles thinking about me wondering why i couldn't catch. It took a while, but I sussed the Talpa, but I wasn't keen on them. Enter the Talpex. Suddenly I was catching lots more, and any blocked duffus types were soon swapped for the Talpex. I now have 50 of them, most are in the ground, or will be by the end of today. I still use duffus types as my mainst

That's no way to talk about Florence the terrier That was the pinnacle of my 35 years of molecatching. I'm off back to the same place in a few weeks, so fingers crossed for another 35 years..tut tut...what took you so long Matt??....
