  1. I don't really know enough to be sure, but if I were to hazard a guess I'd say the doe is mated either on,or very close to, the ring. the ring is for a reason and I think it is to increase the does desire for the male, ergo, I think that once she stands the buck will cover her without delay. next year, if you remind me, I will get some trail cams up on the rings that are used every year. the rut here is definitely over IMO. I saw another two does today without attendant bucks.
  2. This is a double, but not as defined as others I have seen. maybe next year it might be deeper and more pronounced...the directions are on it...it is not a typical figure of 8, just a double with the two circles a little apart...
  3. This is a crap photo I know. I've just took it today. The rings were very obvious last week but since then rain has flattened the yellow grass so they are not obvious on the piccy...here is the treble, shown with black line.
  4. This was around a tiny ash sapling....
  5. Yes, I've spent my life out in the wood and only ever seen a roe running a ring and what I can honestly class as 'true' courtship on that one occasion.Maybe I'm just unlucky.
  6. I think it is also worth bearing in mind to disregard numbers. For newcomers at least. If i catch one rabbit with a pup then I'm going home on a high note. There's no rush. just build it up and enjoy lamping for what it is; FUN.
  7. My own particular one is 'Women come and go, but it's hard to find a good dog'.....
  8. Great thread...... :notworthy:
  9. Had a huge paella last week at a dinner party. Lots of seafood and it was awesome.......love prawns and mussels.....
  10. The worst thing in life is wasted talent.......
  11. I reckon I've always done 90% of my lamping on my own. Often I might want to set the alarm for 3 am to get a couple of hours in when the times just right. But who's keen enough these days? Not too many I'll tell thee...... Best times are had when it's just you and your pooch.....
  12. If I'm using wooden cubbys I hold then in place with 3 screws...simples.
  13. Whenever I've made it I like to wait until November at the earliest before I pick them....everyone has their own ways though...
  14. I've missed the rut here now so it's too late to put a cam up, but I will next year. There's lots of rings here, they're all over the place. Some trees are used every year. Will try and get more piccys this week. I've only ever seen the courtship once and that was at a roe ring, and I've spent my whole life out in the fields. I'm going to get my act together next year and try and film it, I don't know if it's ever been done before on film? Funny how there's no roe rings down near you FD.......I wonder if there's a reason?
  15. They'll be there mate, trust me. It's part of the courtship. Its the doubles that are unusual. The double I found yesterday when I said didn't have a tree in the centre and was just grass, actually did have a tiny ash sapling in the middle. I looked today as it was on my mind....I will take a piccy of them...
  16. This is a single about 40 yards from the silver birch figure of 8....
  17. This is part of a double ring, a figure of 8.......they use this tree year after year....and it's the only place where I have actually seen it.
  18. I've found lots. I will try take piccys of the treble ring on monday when I'm back there next.....I have never seen, nor heard of them. This is a single ring
  19. I site my fenns in boxes on grain, but also smear some peanut butter in with the grain.
  20. You know nothing about bows. They are not designed to kill with shock energy. Arrows can be used to take much bigger game than a thin skinned lion, eg eland, cape buffalo etc. Many of the lion bowkills I have seen on video have complete pass throughs, the heart and lungs being perforated. You cannot compare bullets and broadheads, they are two different animals. Upon a shot from a bow it is expected for the animal to run for 15-20 seconds until the blood stops the heart/lungs working and the animal falls over in a faint through loss of blood/oxygen to the brain. As in all shooting, it i
