Spindle Ermine.....

Maybe the CA focuses the mag and suchlike on the people who are in the CA. It's hardly going to fill the mag and website with lurchers when there are practically no lurcher owners in it.....Get 500 lurcher owners to join up and i can guarantee there'd be more pics and articles for them. There's many thousands of lurcher owners out there.....but I bet you'd never even manage to recruit 100...no 50 even.....too many want a free ride.... We will go round in circles until it's too late.....sadly. The sad thing is Darcy, we dont have to go round in circles, I would of thought with your r

It's a great idea Sandymere and alot of that already goes on...BUT it won't make a scrap of difference. The only thing that will ever make a difference is the votes/opinions of the politicians.... but that's JHMO.

Giro, as I said ages ago, that was just an amendment NOT a repeal. We only have one go at a repeal, so we'd better make sure we'd win it. otherwise there is no point. People started getting confused with the amendment and a repeal, but they are two entirely different motions. The CA does support lurchers. But if anyone thinks they can wave a magic wand and overturn the ban they are deluded. It's a long and rocky uphill road. The only things that will help lurcherwork are unity and money.
-
Giro, I think you're wasting your time buddy. The CA are our only chance. That's a fact. A lurcher club within the CA and affiliated to the CA is the answer, but who would join? Who would donate? The fact is that we'd much rather call names than do anything positive. I'm sorry, but that seems to be true. Would a couple of articles in the CA mag change anything? or photos? If it did I would get something put in there, but as most lurcherlads are not members what would be the point. We'd much rather sit on the sidelines and be negative, but let us remember that without the CA we probably wo

And one other thing that winds me up....we're not allowed to put glass in the recycle bin. Where's the sense in that I wonder?

I fully agree Max, but the guy who was tipping probably would have still tipped. We need more tips for sure. With all these people out of work and claiming i think they should be employed at a recycling centre so we can really boost recycling. IMO all rubbish should be sorted by hand, no matter which bin it goes into. The worlds filling up with rubbish and it's about time we did something about it. A few thousand people sorting this out on conveyers would make a hell of a difference IMO.

I don't understand all this 'fen dog' nonsense and how some lads think dogs that can catch on a fen are plodders. I've seen plenty of dogs run on fenland and many of those could catch anywhere, big land or small. Good dogs catch anywhere. However, IMO there's not many roustabout lurchers that would be able to do much with a good fenland hare.......

Keep at it, I hope someone will take you out. There's a couple of things you might want to remember; #1 Never go back to land that someone takes you onto, whether that is permission or not. If you get a bad reputation when you're young it will be real hard to shake off and no one genuine will take you out. #2 Never put anything about hunting with dogs on facebook/social media. #3 Try and behave in a sporting manner, you never know who is watching/filming you. Good luck. p.s, pm me an address and I'll post you a lurcher book down FOC, you might enjoy lurchers......JD

My granddad used to tell me what it was like pre-myxy. it always sounded like heaven to me. Then again, when I tell the young lads today of how the rabbits were like when I was their age they think it sounds like heaven. This years been the best for a while, but they're still not like they were, and I doubt they ever will be. The moons up and the cloud's vanished, not ideal for lamping tonight.....but if ya gotta go then ya gotta go..... :victory: The trouble with nostalgia is; it ain't like it used to be....

Missed Out On A Photo By A Millisecond!
J Darcy replied to J Darcy's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Aye TJones, you're not wrong. A slower dog gives you that split second more to get the shot right. I remember when I was trying to get some decent deer coursing shots in the day, many years ago. At the time I had the perfect dog for that as he was simply useless at catching deer! He gave me ten times better photo opportunities than a decent dog would have..... Lamping pics are never easy, getting obsessed is the only way to get them on a regular basis, in my opinion. Only when someones had a go do they realise what kind of task it is....... I would have loved to have seen that -

Yes buddy, that's what the dog is. He's ok for me, doesn't need a lead day or night. His retrieve isn't as good as it once was, but that's my fault due to him having retrieved a hell of alot of heavier game. I also use him with the gun regularly and I'm happy. He's far from perfect, but then again, neither am I! So I guess we're well suited!! ha ha -

Hi, I shoot on manual matey. try to keep the ISO up if I can. I'm trying to do 4 nights a week lamping up until December if it's possible, but there's not too much tackle around here but we've gotta try! Last night was just perfect, just me and my dog and the wind and the drizzle. One of the rabbits was a half grown bunny, which you don't often see out on the lamp, it's rare to see a baby 'un under the spotlight. Got some great images, sparky retrieved one over a high wire fence, but he dropped it, it hit the fence and bounced back into the field and headed off like it's arse was on fire! i h -
So near and yet so far! Another split second sooner and I'd have captured a very nicely composed shot. It's a bleedin' nightmare. Cracking night for it though boys, managed 8 for 8 so I'm not complaining..... :bye:

Nope, He's alive.

I don't think he did buddy....It wasn't long ago I was speaking to him..... But I could well be wrong.

He's the daddy!
