  1. now, i dont know the in's and out's of this complex world of bird breeding genetics, but i have just bred her to a canary,...actually to her brother from the previous year..its just something to do to stop me going mad in the close season....in the past 2 seasons i have bred 3 "red-eyed" light coloured birds from out of the origional two birds.......i am breeding for good rearers first and foremost...
  2. sitting on eggs...due to hatch in a week..
  3. had a quick walk this morning...christ, spring is really on its way! managed a squirrel and a woodie with the old hawk. I havent really used it for a while and it was nice to have the old gun back in my hands again.....woodies are a lovelly looking bird when you take time oiut to examine their plumage...dont you think?....good hunting...JD
  4. your right Kane...its easy to critisise others...it cannot be easy producing a monthly magazine...JD
  5. my two tone lurcher...dont you know...they are all the rage.... im thinking about commercially breeding them.... god! i can feel a book coming on....wait for it: "Scoob, the start of a dynasty" now thats a catchy title  good hunting guys...
  6. managed another squirrel too before scoob decided to take an early bath! it was great to be out in the woods today. I heard a nuthatch sing for the very first time in my life today. Loud. i also saw a pair of crows mobbing a pair of sparrowhawks. woodies could be heard cooing their sweet serenades, but as a whole, they still remain in large flocks. In the next month they will fragment off to breed.I saw many jays, but i just couldnt get near enough for a shot....
  7. well, i just cannot get enough of the aa s410. But today things were a little different. I missed the first few shots, and two of them were very easy. I am not a great shot by any means but i just couldnt see myself missing shots that easy. A scoping in sess was required and i soon found the pellets hitting 6 inch to the left!!!!! bloody hell soon had the baby as sweet as a nut again and the next chance i drilled a nice squig...
  8. ian will never go hungry again...
  9. no wire...we didnt mate...looks like next season eh?...
  10. from memory: it was a youngish one..
  11. i killed one two seasons ago that had a velveted protrusion sprouting from the MIDDLE of its head...like a bloody unicorn...
  12. i bet if they returned to their car and all 4 wheels were slashed then they would chose to ramble elsewhere...not that im condoning that kind of behaviour mind you...
  13. they look very realistic...
  14. The "black mamba" was about 4 foot off of the ground.....i should have had a smell at it to see what it had been used for!
  15. then i discovered THIS funny looking apendage...i can only make a guess as to what exactly this , tape covered branch was used for...  :friends:
  16. had a mooch with the dogs this morning and bumped into this well-decorated tree....
  17. i too would like to mirror Ians comments....we started this site as a site for hunters. We all disagree, but as a rule, i hope you all find that the bitching is pretty much non existant. Personally i would love to see a magazine running alongside the site with much the same content, but at the mo i dont think there would be anough subscribers...a full colour mag would be just the thing wouldnt it... keep it real guys...JDarcy
  18. This gun is used for dispatching foxes at the end of the dig, but has also been known to kill bag the odd tree rat too...a lovelly gun to hold...
  19. went out last week for a night shoot...managed 3 maggies and 6 woodies...tarmac shot very well for someone with limp wrists... this was his first ever pied pirate
  20. does any kind soul know what lottery numbers came out on sat 5th feb?...cheers...
  21. i think the question needs to be asked: should an "allrounder EXCEL at the tasks or just be able to perform them? IMHO, after serious thought, i dobt if there are any lurchers out there that could EXCEL at every discipline.. Im talking daytime fox, deer, hare rabbit in multiples...and that is the test>>>multiples quite alot of dogs will take a singleton, but give it another, then another...see how good it is then??.. could you get a dog regularly taking 3/3 brown hares and expect it to work with the ferrets? It can happen, of course, but will it sit, stay. lie, retreive...ANd kil
