  1. A good friend of mine breeds a very good cocker now and then, in Northumberland... if you want details PM me
  2. As far as personal experience of racoon digging goes, i have none.... but ive read loads about working terriers in other countries, especially Europe, but also USA. Most terriers suitable for earthwork will work coon no bother at all, and as far as ive read, they are not as punishing as a fox for an earthdog to takle... Greg Donnell (rip) for instance, who was a regular writer in the EDRD magazine, dug groundhog, racoon, fox and possum with his terriers, and I dont think I ever read that his terriers struggled with the task of coon digging at all.... Regards DnN
  3. Well....... i think we can rule these out: Cat (as its a cat free zone), Otter, Badger, Wolly, Moo, Goose, duck, peafowl, Georgia's mam, tortoise, snail, terrier, the lairds wife and...erm, hamister !?! I reckon hedgehog myself, but actually im not 100%
  4. Ive had one for my lurcher for a while now, and ive got to say that the craftmenship and toughness is second to none, these collars can take serious grief all day every day
  5. Guinneas wont keep vermin away, but they will let you know when its about thats for sure... You tell them apart not by the horn on the head, but the wattle type dangly bits on the chin... now this isnt the correct terminology but the way ive remembered it is that the males have balls, and the females have flaps Its easy to tell them apart once you know this... hope this helps
  6. Just thought id brighten the place up a bit Heres a bit more info... it was found on a lawn area inside a large walled garden of a rural stately home....and pic was taken on the day it was posted...
  7. Nice size fox cage there, its like an old one I used to use on a pheasant shoot, where I helped when I was a young lad. We had it perminently alongside a release pen..... had some luck with it too!! cheers, DnN
  8. Are they made by the same person who advertised in the Earthdog Running dog magazine?? Also Pat (warrener) reviewed them on his lurchers hounds and terrier work DVD... Cheers, DnN
  9. I like his stuff, and have seen and dug to a fair few terriers of his breeding..... a good example of typical grafting russells in my opinion.
  10. Come on ladies and gentlemen, what do you think dropped this??
  11. Hi John Couldnt make it down for your opening, facing heavey resistance on the mole front! It looks like the opening of the shop and the show were a great success, please organise another!! and ill be down with the troops and dogs, cant wait to have a look around the shop... All the best DnN
  12. Heres another breed... what are these? ..............apparently you buy one, and get a free spade!! (to bury the fecker with) Local breeds to my area....
  13. You got the bottom one right mate, well done!
  14. I was moling today on the fells, seen these..... And on the low ground, these.... What breeds are these then?????????????
  15. Yes too wide!! But you could fix it by attatching a long flap of chicken mesh along each side of the entrance, make the flap about 8 inches wide. then using some soft wire, like garden wire etc, you need to make the lowest part of the strips of wire to be about 6 inch apart from each other. Ive had magpies get out sometimes, and this can be stopped by putting a bit of mesh blocking 6-8 inches either end of the entrance.
  16. Link worked fine for me mouse...... good luck mate, theres nothing more sickening than urban sprawl.... 'development' should be banned!!
  17. Well one of my banties has managed to hatch off a chick from some eggs she has been sat on, wierd thing is there is no cock bird anywhere near us???? Ive named it Jesus....
  18. I always caught more kestrels when I used young rabbits as bait.... but ive caught both crows and kestrels together, so they certainly wont put a crow off going in thats for sure, just a pain in the arse more than anything.... Only thing I can think of that will possibly put them off is to use bigger bait!!
  19. Its a polecat for sure... plenty up my way.... cant be sure from the pic if its a feral ferret or not but if you say it was huge compared to your large hob, id guess its at least part wild polecat, as they get very big. Not likely Phil, they dont tame up well.... ive tried in the past, even bred a female of mine with a wild male and the two younguns I kept out of the cross were not too tame and belive me i put the time in with them... time wasted i must add!
  20. I had a bitch, line bred, mainly old nuttal blooded... couldnt fault the bitch Nettle
  21. Cracking pics there Martin how far would you say you were from the fox roughly? Thanks for sharing.... DnN
  22. Option 1: Take ill ferret to vet, to be humanely put to sleep. Option 2: Humanely dispatch yourself. My opinion: I would do it myself, same with an aged dog which needs pts... then I will happy in the knowledge that my ferret has died instantly with no pain and no stress from being taken to vets. Totally legal if done properly with utmost respect for your animal. And so it should be, why pay someone to do something which you can do a better job of yourself? Edited to say, the vets bills are not the issue with me at all, and if any of my ferrets are needing a vet they see one asa
