  1. Dont you mean in the beating line one MINUITE and hunting rabbits and foxes the next. lol lol
  2. The way I see it is... Jack Russels ARE (or should be) the working type fox terrier of the past, whereas the modern 'fox terriers' are show/pet bred dogs which have changed into something different looking by breeding for looks alone. Same thing happened to the lakeland aswell, but they split into different strains (working and show) under the same name. Borders went a different way with the boundries between workers and show stuff being a bit blurry, the breed has been over ruled by the greedy breeder with eyes on money and papers... Patterdale owners will be affraid of the same
  3. Im not 100% about the CA's insurance, but i think it is similar to that of the BASC or NGO (im with the NGO) in that you are covered when you are undertaking any form of hunting or shooting for liesure (not covered if its paid work). Look on their website and find the page with the details about members insurance, print a copy off and take it round along with your membership card.... that should settle her mind.
  4. Oh your here... Do you think it could be the same pratt ( i mean person!!) ??
  5. Ask H-pool hunter??... I remember they were mates, or at least knew each other...
  6. Generally speaking the springer is a bit more easy going, cockers are that bit harder to tame. But saying that I moved to working cockers instead of using the more popular springers, as they seem to suit me better... Im not one to help you with training, as Im not a typical spaniel worker, mine might be in the beating line one day and hunting rabbits or foxes the next.
  7. I was expecting to see an adder during the warm spell but have not seen my first one yet this year, great pics!!
  8. As far as I know, the males seek out females. The last week or so have seen me catching a lot of male/female double catches, they seem to be hard at it in this area.
  9. I agree, ive always thaught a badger will go straight down from above the nest, whereas a fox will follow the tunnel....
  10. I apologise now for the severity of poorness here!! You will need to full screne it for best results..... ...... a little 'grainy' wasnt it!! lol Guess you had to be there
  11. Cheers for the input lads, il have to do some searching for a decent camera... somethging not too bulky, then il keep it in a case in the box on the quad when im going round. Thanks paid, il try that
  12. Moling the other day down the valley, blustery day, spitting with sleet etc... but my day was brightened by seeing a pair of peregrines take a woodpigeon after a good flight, both birds working to catch the bird. The female was seeing off a pair of gutsy corbies when a buzzard pushed the male peregrine off the pigeon and sat there on the kill whilst getting bombarded big style, by the female, the male went and sat in the top of a tall tree in the wood, the coward. I took a crappy video on my mobile of the female bombing the buzzard, and she wasnt going to give up, but I couldnt sit watching t
  13. Im sure you will get results on the trees that have bridged the burns, that sort of trap was always very good for me when I trapped a few mink, I used fenn mk6 sat in a chiselled-out section making the trap lie flush with the upper surface of the wood, with a mesh tunnel with wire restrictors... I ALWAYS trapped more mink moving into my ground from downstreem, only caught a few from the upstream side...... I had always put this down to the fact that on the stretch of river that I was on (upper), there was going to be a lot more comming from downstream as there was simply more river that wa
  14. Cheers for sharing mate, well done with the snaring...... hope you stay on board and share some more of your experiences in Canada, looks great. Regards DnN
  15. Thanks again everyone... All I can say is that if you ever have this happen to you, call everyone you can think of, as my terrier was dropped at a vets 20 miles away if i hadnt already called them it may have ended up at a shelter, and then rehomed. Keep safe DnN
  16. Cheers J, i was thinking the worst as you do.... but he is back, heres what i put on the other thread...... Thanks for the support, its good to know there is support on here... but ive got good news, albeit strange.... someone dumped him off at one of the vets in town, lityerally thrown out of the car and drove off!!!??!! Im not sure what to make of it, as the dog must have been picked up from my own garden or at the gate............. seems strange to me, maybe someone is on the look out to steal a dog and this wasnt for them, whoknows, im just glad i rang all the vets reporting he was lost

Im not sure what to make of it, as the dog must have been picked up from my own garden or at the gate............. seems strange to me, maybe someone is on the look out to steal a dog and this wasnt for them, whoknows, im just glad i rang all the vets reporting he was lost earlier on. It was old scrumpy yeah, ive been in a right bad mood all day, and i realise now just how m
  18. Have you got any pics of moles etc you have mounted?
  19. Ive never had a problem as mine grow up around hens... But if i took on a dog that wasnt broken to them i would put it on a long check lead/rope, and walk pst the hens regularly, if the dogs shows interest in them, pull on the rope and give them a telling off. They soon get the message. I dont like the idea of putting dogs in with stuff to take a bit of a beating, may go either way, plus im sure its not the best way.
  20. Last night a small silver car pulled up at ours then drove off, mightr not be related, but seemed strange at the time and we think there may be a link.
