  1. Well I mainly use cage traps, dug into a sandy bank, often an overhanging bank, or tree works well, remember to tie it to something well so it dosent get washed away in a flood. I usually cover the floor of the trap with sand, so the mink dosent feel the cage, but its not essential. Edited to add: I aslo cover the trap with debris, wood, whatever, makes it look more attractive to the mink, and helps hide the trap from prying eyes. I bait with fresh rabbit. or fish heads free from the monger. You could also use the fenn mk6 or bodygrip 116 in a suitable tunnel, again baited will bring
  2. Seems too pricey to me..... if you can buy a brand new one for £47 why pay £50 for a used one that may not last long????
  3. TIP: If doing a deer head with antlers, dont get it on the horns... use cotton wool soaked in the solution, that way it dont splash etc... dosent matter for other skulls... I use.....
  4. I use ferrets for ratting a lot......... ive never had one seriously hurt, the ones ive got now will kill any rat in a hole or above ground but like i say they are a little too big for the job. The old strain I had that i gave away when I moved into the highlands were purpose bred for ratting, they were ratting most days on the local farms, and were never once pushed out by rats! Anyway.........back to the topic please!! Anyone keep a good ratting strain, even if its just the jills that are usefull?? Cheers all Oh, John Ostranica, that looks very small, do you use it for ratting?
  5. Hi all A very good friend of mine is now unable to take on a bitch pup due to changing work commitments, it was the first pick from the litter, and I was sorely tempted to keep her myself, as she is that bit more relaxed in nature than the others, but im well dogged at the minute and kennel space is very limited. Interested parties PM me please....... Heres a couple of pics, the available bitch is in the vid(smallest) and has the white 'socks' on rear feet. Dog Bitch
  6. Il give you £35 for one of the used mk3 ferret collars......
  7. My jills do a bit of ratting, but they are a little large for the job in my opinion... last week I had a jill wedged tight, and thought to myself that I should perhaps aquire some smaller stuff for next year. I would like to hear from anyone who keeps what they consider a small type, for rats, pics would be nice... Cheers DnN
  8. I am mainly on foot these days, but did a lot from the vehicle and quad in the past.
  9. Im snowed in today!!! Im waiting for a plough to come and clear the road so I can at least get out hunting with my doogs! Nice pics there FD, i wish there were more species of deer up in Northumberland, would love to have red or fallow around Im thinking the third pic from bottom are hare tracks?
  10. Cheers miller Ive spoken to jayjay.......... cheers Goldie!!
  11. Thanks mate that is useful, but im now sorted, got a very colourful leaflet now, best one ive done yet by far... Thanks all who have helped or tried to help. Very much appreciated, and im very grateful.. cheers DnN
  12. Brown he was! In no way at all am I saying they are a game breed lol but he was certainly the top dog on my farm! Nothing could touch him! Was funny to watch.. the most entertaining birds ive ever kept. I am looking forward to the day when I can again own these birds I could watch them for hours!!
  13. Good on you for getting stuck in Now your at that stage, I would run the knife along the backbone on each side and cut the strips off. They are the best bits for yourself! You will find there is a silvery 'skin' on them, you should cut this off with a sharp knife, same as on rabbit/deer. If you need more, cut meat from the back legs. Rest of carcass and offal will feed dogs well! P.S Did your collie retrieve that??
  14. They are twice that size now mate, will make bigger dogs than the older bitch pictured, i reckon..
  15. Hi there, I used to keep lots of different breeds of poultry, welsomers, leghorns, wyandottes, orpington, O E Game, blackrock, hybrid layers, indian game, various fancy and meat breeds and various bantams.... when I had more space than I do now! But I got my hands on a trio of dainty looking modern game one day, and was absolutely chuffed to bits with them.... Its there character, and awkward stance, they are like those dinosaurs, velosor raptors! When the cock bird first met my various other cockerels I was ready to jump in and save him, but I dont think any of them ever made contact
  16. I can say that I have a half bred dog, line bred, that is always out with the terriers, rarely misses bolting fox, but lost odd one in thik cover. He will pull anything, and very well.. good lamp dog also. If the dogs going to be doing lots of work with the terriers, get a half bred dog from parents you are happy with, they have the strength to do it better, faster, and most good ones are well racey enough to bag charlie easy in any field. 17. RIP old lad, had a good working life and served you well.........you must be proud of him.! Good luck with your future workers Liam, a cracking line you have going, cheers, Dogs.
  18. Just wondering winter hare, how you feed a BARF diet..... but dont feed BONE?? Surely your feeding a DARF diet...... DRY And Raw Food !!
  19. Yeah mate, it would! If you read some of the other posts on this thread you will understand why..... nice pic though, it would have done the job nicely!! But without the owners permision, i cant use it.
  20. In my honest opinion, if you make the walls from stone, and roofed with flat stones/slates/slabs you will make a much better job in the long run. As you can break in anywhere. Pipes are easy, but often very frustrating, when the terrier engages mid pipe...
  21. I like that Taz, but ive sorted the tree rat one out already.... thanks again mate Thanks for the offer lass, but I dont think I need a hare piccy... cheers Cheers Kay, I dont need a red deer pic..... but would really like to see it, any chance of putting it up?? Anyone out there got a good rabbit picture?
