yes i noticed there's not so much as 3 or 4 years ago , and yet you still have people with 2 or more lurchers, have they really got enough work for all there dogs.????

Agreed that a lot of retired greys have come from the NGRC,but once they've been adopted they are not under any NGRC rules.It is then up to the new owner wether they muzzle them/it or not. As someone who has owned and trained greyhounds for over 20 years I would fully agree with you that when they "start" they can take some stopping. I had one that was extremely firey,if when he was out a walk and saw a cat,rabbit or small dog and obviously couldn't get to it he would attack the dog next to him.He had to be muzzled everytime he was walked with other dogs,also the other dogs had to be muzzl

As Max has already said it's an NGRC rule that greyhounds must be muzzled in a public place and only applies to NGRC trained dogs. Kay you were in the right your dog was on a lead and stationary,the other dog which was obviously not under control approached you. With this in mind I'm struggling to understand why some of the members are pointing the finger at you. Most greys that go as pets [ are NGRC trained dogs] that have been raced at one time or other.? As i said i helped a bloke who 45 greys, and YES they make great pets. But if they start fighting it dont matter wh

I could be wrong, but greys have to where a muzzle in a public place.? If they are loose and they went for another dog, more so a small dog . You would have alot of shit, from owners and if it got back to the greyhound kennels, because they are trying to promote them as good pets, and its the last thing they want . If i was you keep him on the lead+muzzel, its what they are used to. I helped a bloke with greys [45], and if a 65lb greyhound kicked off, it can do a lot of feckin damage its not worth it

dont think dave has ever been in it for the money. i have known him since i was a nipper over 30 years when he used to go coursing with my dad so he would let me use one of his dogs regardless and is one of the best dogmen i have ever known. he could make a good dog out of a street mutt, the bitch has been tested as would a bullx lurcher would and by the time she is bred from probably a lot more than most. there is only one true test of a bulls gameness amd how many that produce the best bull crosses have been. probably 10% i would bet. If it's shape, size and muscle you want in the cross wouldn't a pure greyhound or a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 bull be a better option. The reason you cross a greyhound with another breed for a lurcher is for drive and hunting ability / instinct. A doberman possess neither. As for collies and pit bulls, they're full of drive and hunting instinct. Silly crosses are one of the reasons dogs homes are full of lurchers, JMHO. And Temp= nervousness, my sister-in-law had one. Ive had lurchers 25 years+ , and in that time i must have seen most x's work. We all know what x is best for Certain quarry, but to me a Well Bred colliex grey is a real good lurcher. Ive had and seen collie xs catch all game in the UK, on a Regular Basis. They really are [ jack of all trade's and a master of none . ] I love lurchers , and every x can do a job, but if there is such a thing as a alrounder , a well bred collix grey must come close.

not all lurchers will take squartter's, alot like your dog looks for movment in the beam. When you get your next squatter, walk your dog up to it, get your dog to the back of the rabbit, when the rabbit gets up slip your dog. It should learn take them , give it time. How old is your dog, it takes a couple of seasons to know the crack.

colliexgrey , easy to train,catch rabbits easy, good coat+feet, a good nose, handle any weather and any ground, so a tough old dog. Size = 22-24ins 40- 55lb, just right for any game, a nice size lurcher not to big .

If He has constantly retrieved, and this a new. i personally would check his Mouth Teeth etc....... *if his running style and Movement are still the same* too may have a bearance i have always trained like a building block.. so if one block fails i can go back - rebuild and Hopefully all will work out Good Luck L hope it sorts out With retrieving, lurchers its not natural.? 1x collie grey's, they seem quite a tough dog. Most lurchers get a knock, i think the more running dog in the lurcher, the quicker so more chance of get'n hurt. especially in the lamp.
