  2. well just got back after a couple of hours ferreting with me pup , its the 3rd time out with her and shes coming on nicely [smiley=smiley.gif] only done two warrens and got 11 including one that slipped a net and the dog chased and caught not the perfect retrieve but still very happy with her, and a black one that also slippped a net and the dog just missed as it went down the first warren done . so me thinks have a bit of fun with the dog and put the ferrets back down with no nets on to see if the rabbit would bolt again which it did first time making it to a second hole but the next time i

  4. I'm glad the pups got a good home. We're looking for a pup too but i held back because ours is a pet home and it looked like a working home was preferable. a good pet home is better then a bad working home give the fellow a call

  7. I never said hobs were better, I keep both sexes, and use both sexes, just at different times, different warrens, different months etc I'd aggree if they were any other of my ferrets, than the two I took, my best jill, who came from magwitch's bloodline, she's a cracking 4yr old worker, and really does work her heart out, I do think it was more like I mentioned above, that using a single jill on that particular warren, they were easily giving her the run around down below, on see the hob x 4 the size of her, the thought, f**k it, lets get out of here do you think the rabbits can see
  8. over half the posts could be deleted if people knew about the search button the bloke /kid not doing any harm in what his asked and theres plenty of people happy to see the courts again as they are not all as good on the keyboards as some are ,all the best phill ps some nice setups you lot got

  10. nice work how do you get the bow back if u dont mind me asking do you have to soak the ply in water then let it dry , do you use wood inside to fix it together or not and could you sit on one for a brew cheers j hi mate the bow back is where the 3mm ply goes no need to soak and when there all pinned and glued togather there plenty strong enthough to sit on
  11. thanks for all the nice feedback ,well worth doing it yourself
  12. it all started when steves old box gave up and i ended up driveing home with a ferret in hand at the wheel . i brought a 8x4 sheet of 9mm ply for £20 and a sheet of 3mm ply for a £5 and after a few hours fcuking about ended up with 5 boxes and still got enough for at lest two more a couple of quid per box for fittings and i think im sorted for boxes for a few years all the best phill
  13. Probably Norfork spades at a guess. That sounds right . Long-handled spades ,sometimes with a little hook on the end designed to either retrieve rabbit corpses or catch onto the line of a collared ferret. have to agree they also used them like a probe in the ground and listen to the fibrateing [spelt wrong]to get a mark to dig to the ferret

  18. i got thinking is it better to keep feeding carcass to the ferrets in this really cold weather or would they be better of on the dry type of feed for ferrets ,why i say this is the dry feed must have a higher oil,fat level in it then say rabbit or pigeons .your thoughts please

  21. spot on that mate the hobs i have got are smaller then most jills if there smaller then your jills i cant see your point do they kill in a different manner to the jills .big hobs have the weight to stop them being dragged around under ground i think thats the point here or am i missing your point [ p.s sorry for all the points in this post]
  22. hiya, ferreting is pracised here for generations like this, so its not knew. But as been stated it not profitable setting nets on small burrows with so much thorn just for 1 or 2 rabbits so its makes sense to use a hard buck for one dig only, u cant be breaking into hedges after several digs to a jill being dragged this way [bANNED TEXT] in and out in minutes. But yes the one and only down fall is some farmers might not be happy with all the digs but i make sure they are well back filled. nice reply joey1979 not the fcuk you what you know about it reply ,you get on here sometimes as its b
  23. as the first post states 20 digs a day theres not many land owners who would like to see someone make more holes then there was to start with [back filled i know but still digging holes ] the art of ferreting is to be quiet and get those rabbits to bolt using jills or hobs, rabbits dont give a toss what sex they are .yes dig to them when you have to but not as the main way of getting them out or have most people been doing it wrong for years
  24. hard to explain but only the end pegs will have the net trapped but the rest will only be the top and bottom lines and not the nett hope this helps
