  6. Sadly today we laid to rest one of the countrys top terrier men John Cowan from Cumbria, The Crematorium was standing room only and that included outside which shows the respect John had earned over the years, He will be a sad miss to his family and the terrier and hunting world will be poorer at his passing. RIP John.
  7. Go back to dummy work, teach it to hold and let it carry it about, then work on the recall.
  8. I have a similar set up you with the hole into the shed but I also have an oil filled radiator on a timer for the very hard frost nights, it comes on every couple of hours and stops the waters freezing and makes it a bit warmer.
  9. Not many coppers know the Hunting Act but try to use the little knowledge they have (a little knowledge can be dangerous), most of the Wildlife Officers do have a understanding and greater knowledge of it, I have a print off of the Act in the file with my permission slips, I really pissed off a arrogant PC one morning when ferreting on production of this, he thought he had us nicked, always a useful addition to permission is written legal paper, should have seen his face when he read it . haha,
  10. Cock of the North was always at Wolsingham in the First week in September, only been once about 1988, The Cumbria Lurcher and Terrier Championship was held at Egremont Crab Fair Show on the 3rd Saturday in September.
  11. If you are charged with an offence under the Hunting Act, they can confiscate your dogs, vehicle and equipment, they will put your dogs in a RSPCA or similar kennels, the vehicle will be in a police pound, this could be for months, if found guilty they can destroy the dogs and keep the vehicle, you will get a bill for thousands for keeping the dogs and the vehicle, this will be added to any fine or sentence you get, if proved innocent you will get them back, no charges to pay but in poor condition, I have seen this happen.
  12. The red bitch is 4, she is only whippet size but stocky, Grew yes mate Greyhound/Whippet, they do have guard/protect instincts, especially in the kennel, I have had them for 20 years, not everyones cup of tea and depends why you want them.

  16. Get a letter off to the chief constable, laying out the facts and what happend to you, etc etc he will not be a happy chappy, tell him you are taking legal advice on wrong full arrest.
  17. Two or three years ago a couple of lads near Lockerbie were caught with a hare and a few rabbits , that the dogs accidently caught on the lamp as they were lamping rabbits with permission, which was a pest control service they and their dads did for years, they had the van and dogs confiscated for 6 months, they won their case on they werent deliberately hunting hares and there was no evidence that it was intentional, or so the story goes, if they had lost the bill to house the 3 lurchers was thousands (SRSPCA) inflated prices, and lost the van, to loose this case cost the procurator fiscal an
  18. Under the scottish protection of wild animal act, they have to prove that you were intentionally/deliberately hunting hares and not rabbits, just stick to " you only hunt rabbits as pest control " they cant prove otherwise. The Procurator fiscal has lost a couple of cases on this at Dumfries, they may not bring charges now if in doubt.
