  1. A bit of freindly advice mate from one who knows -Save up and get a new one ,when the time is right as 2nd hand .22s have a habit of being shot out -the rifling is damaged and will not shoot properly .
  2. WHAT DID YOU USE BEFORE B AND F MATE .Did you ever lose a dog because of equipment error, not human error, dodgey batteries.Deben have served us well and will continue to do so .Patients in finding a dog is all that is required ,in an earth thats within the finders capabilities that is .We do not have any scary earths around us and so even the old box was man enough .Im afraid some of the old values are disappearing with technology .Its easy to put dog in and find straight away with this new tech stuff, some of the mystery for me is to locate the area myself ,then to pin point the action using v
  3. I see the anti summer brigade are blowing horns again . What you like ,missing out on all those flies, sweat rashes and exhaustion.Stingers head hight ,bracken sky high and the dig is generally under brambles .HEAVEN. :11:
  4. Oxford has its fair share too .Often see them up on thermals with buzzards .
  5. OR PUSH THE TRUCK WITH ONE HAND AND SHOOT WITH THE OTHER ,LAMP BETWEEN THE TEETH .Only joking mate .Nice one .
  6. Good one rabbithunter but I dont think the lads that thick. :11: Its tempting to bait the outside to get them used to the trap but in my experience seldom a good move .The first thing is to find a good site for it .If your setting on private land, away from the public, then choose a track, ride in a wood, game trail and site it at 90 degrees to the path and roughly 2m from it if poss.Remove the turf from the area bigger than the trap itself and leave abit of top soil loose in a pile.Level the trap on the base pushing it into the soil to mark the trap size, note where the treadle is ,mark a hole
  7. When I was younger ,I took on a pest control job at a duck farm .The owner was loaded ,the rats plentiful and we settled for a pound a rat -against my mentors advice at the time -Too cheap he said.We arrived on the stated day when they were to move the ducks out of one shed ,ready for a new crop .We turned over the dung with forks and let the terriers kill the rats.We were well into 200 plus when the owner poked his head around the door and asked how we were getting on."200 my god" was the reply to which Frank said "we'd better stop then" .The owner looked around and saw we'd only done a quart

    new bird

Where are they native to mate .?
  9. Basically a good system but the collar does need strenthening like Darcy said .Takes a bit of getting used to after the old grey boxes. The noise is piercing and may betray a dig in the wrong place  .The bright colour is a bonus though and once use to it there is rarely the wandering about trying to get over a mark as the directional arrows and pip-pip lead you to the dog .We have found they lie a bit when directly over a dog,but not too much. They also work with the old collars if necessary.
  10. Excellent mate .You obviously keep good records .
  11. A few have said they like to keep a dog fit all year round and I agree.By fit I mean capable of doing a nights lamping all year round .Just as an athlete needs to acclimatise to hot weather so does a running dog . Obviously the performance is different in the warmer months but it makes the winter nights easier on the dog if its used to a bit of muscle work before hand.Road work is no substitute for running as it does not stretch muscles or diaphram.Wrongly or writely I lamp all year round as ground is not a problem to me .I have the lamping on several golfcourses where the grass is watered in
  12. Zone alarm wont allow the server on this!
  13. Took these a while ago .Perfect camoflage .
  14. Nothing wrong with tinned meat mate .Go for a decent brand though like pedigree chum .You will have to feed more of it and it will cost more ,but nothing wrong with the content .The change from raw to tinned is nowhere near as severe as raw to complete mate .
  15. What ,fishing for fish with a fishing rod .No chance !
  16. It depends to a certain degree on how you leave the place .We always make good with branches over the tube before backfill ,even in stop ends .The added bonus is that you arnt scratching about for the last bit of soil to make good .Weve had 9 from an earth by a slurry pit ,10 if you include the original occupant . All winter foxes .
  17. Well its not as simple as that mate they see a lot of freshly killed ones 1st and are run with another dog at the beggining. You agree that its not the cubs that test them but a hard biting adult,IMHO when a dog gets hit hard by a fox if its going to quit it will quit it doesnt matter how many cubs its killed. I can understand the passion for hunting and a real need to get out there,Ime bored stiff and irritable I dont like the heat and my eyes are itching with a high pollen count, but to go out killing cubs just for the craic is a bit much. Most of us put up with the boredom and heat and sit in
  18. The keeper accounted for 3 the following morning and I got 2 last Friday .Job done . Seems the currant trend on here at the moment ,especially on the dog boards, is to condemn the culling of summer foxes .Pest control is an all year round thing with us ,never let up ,one keeper says or you will find a wheel barrow load of poults .[which can and does still happen ,but not too often we hope .]Like I said on the lurcher board ,the keepers respect no close season on any vermin and when you are fortunate enough to be in their trust then neither do I .A keeper was sacked around us last year becaus
  19. If the ducks are intended to act as decoys then buy some call ducks .They are mostly white and should not get shot :icon_redface:They are noisy little ducks and attract mallard from afar .
  20. A routine look out for a keeper found these 2 wandering near the rearing field .Shot the vixen first at half light .She came belting in to a squeak from the hand .Knocked her over at no more than 30 yds .Phoned the keeper to let him know there was a litter nearby and he said he would deal with the cubs as he had an idea where they were .Jokingly, he said he would be pleased if I could get the dog before I went to bed ? Walked over to the far side of the rearing field and shone the lamp as it was now too dark to see .A fox was sat under an oak tree at about 150 yds and a look through the scope
