  1. I didnt like to say so ,but that is how I read it too .Defra are doing their best to stay away from the last fiasco which caused more knock on financial loss than letting the disease run its course. Hopefully it will be nipped in the bud and no great changes to our way of life . Regards foxdropper. Edited to say that Ive just phoned the game dealer and there is no change in our neck of the woods .
  2. Very good read mate. That rifle is a beauty too .Good luck with further outings .
  3. Try digging a hole for the meat bait under the trap with only part showing above ground .Place a treadle trap over it with the bait far side of treadle .Cover the floor of the trap with seived soil so as to leave no mesh showing .Inspect from a distance as constant human scent does nothing for success.Move the trap after a capture as you will not catch another cub in the same location .Right angles to a run are favourite sets or around a release pen .Good luck .
  4. Mate -try rabbit guts and put a pair of live traps back to back as close to the water line as possible .Some sort of artificial lead in is benificial .Mink pads are like small cats with claws out .Young will be dispersing this time of year and it may be a passer by you have seen .
  5. Does this lad need some more in depth advise as surely the basic setting of a trap is in us all . By law they have to be covered, placed in a tunnel or hole, and inspected twice a day.The siting of fenns is best learnt through trial and error as it would take pages to cover every set for all vermin, suffice to say that vermin use natural corridors such as dry stone walls and ditches as well as the runs of their prey .
  6. I suppose your optimism and patience is to be applauded but if any dog dosnt sit right with what I want then its history .No matter what breeding or work it has done .Never forget YOU are the pack leader and as such every dog is below you and thrives on discipline and routine .Sounds like youve already made a rod for your back . PS not wrote to annoy or upset anyone ,just facts .
  7. IME,partridge will do o.k in pheasant pens but need clipping the same as pheasants as they are ,as said ,very flighty .On a small shoot where time is valuable them mix them in to save having to visit two pens .You will need to keep back a pair of call birds though[before they are put in the release pen] and kept nearby in a smaller mesh topped pen .This can be in a clearing around the pen and surrounded with electric wire ,run off the pen .A wire bottem to any partidge pen is advisable to stop predators digging under .
  8. Wiltshire mate .No ban on people movement here according to defra website .
  9. Mateys last post did him NO favours at all .

  11. Byron you perv. lol.Quality pic mate .
  12. I thought hover flies were carnivorous and hunted on the wing, or is this a bonde moment !.
  13. Tina -I hope you will solve your problem but I would not have the patience or desire to work on a dog that did not tow the line .Your not going to like this but -IF the dog comes back and re-offends then for the sake of yours and everyone elses sanity ,have him PTS.Some dogs just do not fit in with what you require and frankly never will . .At the end of the day ,you have to look at things as a whole and if something dosnt fit then remove it but dont pass the dog on to be a problem else where .
  14. Dont know about your gun laws mate but sounds like the perfect opportunity for an air weapon .
  15. Called in to a patch of ground I have yesterday evening with hopes of a buck maybe .Took along young josh from this forum who is keen to the point of being annoying !.There is a couple of small tree plantations here which are a draw for the roe .The wind was totally wrong for this ground ,blowing from behind me as we walked the fields to the brow of the valley .Decided to try the left hand fields and glassed carefully at each hedge turn .Josh who was behind me spotted a deer lead out full stretch in the mowing grass [eyes like a p***y ],roughly 200yds down the field and just over the brow of a
  16. My dig at foxy was in jest as I know him and he would take it the right way but dont slag off anyone who is out there doing it .Cubs are just smaller killing versions of adults and therefore need to be got on top of before the damage gets out of hand .You do your bit of "control"and let those that know the score propper do theirs .
  17. Fished a local lake yesterday just to see what the standard of bream was .Most were around the 3lb mark but some slabs came my way too.20yds out on the dam end in 18 ft of water so the float was out!.8 balls of ground bait in before setting up the feeder rod ,4lb straight through ,loop feeder rig and 14 hook tipped with worm and a maggot stopper .Had to wait half hour before the bream got on it but this is usual anywhere .The action was none stop for the morning but taled off in the afternoon .Its a dilemer whether or not to bang in more bait and risk loosing whats in the swim for a while or
