Bet you wished you rolled that rug up first mate Dont have a clue who the lad is but he speaks some sense, although the bit about about breeding from a dog thats seen nowt is strange to me as is a dog too valuable to work, not my philosophy , but there you go -this is the internet and everyones judged by the written word and pics .Roll on the season.

Just keep them clean mate .Put nothing on them .The dog will lick to soothe but will ingest anything else you put on .Trust me

You don't appear to be listening mate.Don't use ferrets on rats, you will get them injured and feck them up for rabbiting. You appear to have read too many plummer books and not done much ratting with ferrets .I used to ferret the feckers a lot and personally believe its the best form of dog /ferret combination there is .No ferret has ever been spoilt for rabbitting that i have owned nor have i lost them through bites ,attacks .Drains and concrete claim more lost ferrets than rats ever will .What i have found is that some ferrets will stick to the job for many seasons whilst some do a seas

Went out with a mate off the forum and my son for a look on some ground that i usualy keep until after September due to the vast amount of maize grown here .We threaded our way through the neck high fields to a brow that over looks a deep valley .Had a shine as we walked up the hill and could see a fox in some cover crop but he wouldnt come out when called ,like so many lately it seems .We stalked as close as we dare,to where i could see clearly , and i shot it freehand at a mere 30 yards .Up the hill a bit more and a look over the valley and sure enough 3 more sets of eyes peered back but at

We have mainly hedges around us where the deer have no choice but to sit in tight in a storm .Its not so much whats the best weather for the deer as to whats best to stalk them in and i would have to say its sunny evening /mornings with a soft breeze .

Agreed mate .Hopefully it will be chinese on the menu next time up there .I am a lucky chap indeed .

In my eyes the serious foxer needs as many tools as he can master to keep on top of the fox numbers .Got no problem with any humane method but as Foxy says ,the gun will win everytime .Well done you two and good shooting David .

Invited up to Oxford by a good mate of mine who has a fair acreage of stalking over some beautiful scenery .Travelled up the night before to get an early rise .Didnt sleep much in anticipation of the day ahead .Myself,my host and a mate of his travelled to the ground well before first light and parked in a gateway .We waited untill we could see with the bino's and got the kit ready for the off .A group of fallow had been damaging a field of beans on this farm and we were to take one or two out to move them on .The farmer had seen both bucks and does on this field so we didnt yet know what to

pheasant illness
Squirrel_Basher replied to sionw123's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Definately some signs of infection there mate .Kill a healthy bird for a reference mate and check the lower intestine of a few dead birds against the one healthy .Get a few birds tested ,its worth the expense for piece of mind to know what your up against .Treatment will be swift when you know the score .Dont waste any more time on here with guesses mate as thats what they are . -
One proud dad and so you should be .Know the feeling mate .My boy of 10 regularly comes along and apart the really irritating tangles he is a good angler with a few good fish to his name already .

Fox identification at night
Squirrel_Basher replied to rainger's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
A little tale will serve to back up the NO SHOOTING AT EYES rule .Years ago ,maybe 20 or so ,i was on the back of a subaru lamping foxes with a head keeper and a beat keeper like myself .I had the estate .222 and my mate was lamping with the head driving .We'd had a brace already and shot dozens more on other nights so those doing the lamping/shooting knew what they were at but on this night, the head keeper had to have his say .We drove into a field on the boundary and a set of eyes were seen on top of a dry stone wall ,at roughly 200 yads .I looked through the scope ,something which i still -

Muntjacs in Holland
Squirrel_Basher replied to Bramp's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Not being funny mate ,but youve got to have some population of munties to create a browse line of any sort .We,here in Wiltshire have the 3rd highest density in the country but no browse line .The 'gale is on the decrease due to other more sinister factors than muntjac One being the increase in sparrowhawks . -

The best thing to do mate is to spend a bit of time at the pen ,sit down and watch your birds .Vent pecking is a real killer but not necessarily through overcrowding .I would say you have the beginnings of a weather related disesase and the vent pecking is only the symtom mate .Poor birds that huddle and dont move much are always a target for stronger birds .Get some medication of the 'E' type into them as a precaution .Any chance of a pic of the whole intestine of one of those dead birds mate .PM if you prefer . -
Invited down to Martins patch last Thursday evening for a stalk and i took along the buttalo call .We were to stalk the same farm as we shot a few pigeons on a while back .Started the evening stalking along a hedge above a lane which divides the farm in two .Nothing in this field but as we crossed a gap ,looking down over the valley ,we could see a doe zig-zagging through a barley field and then a buck came into view ,following her every move .We both agreed he was a cullbuck so a stalk was planned .The shot wasnt practical from here so Martin chose a route that would take us somewhere near th

Occasionally one for the freezer mate but most to the game dealer .If you find it a bit like killing for killings sake ,we have an abundance of roe here in Wiltshire that needs culling on a regular basis and im the man for the job . -
Good to see some of my tutoring rubbed off mate .lol.Did that buck have 'FD' on his forehead though .lol.Never mind ,time spent fishing with the boy was time well spent .102 rudd between us and 7 carp to 6 lbs .
