An interesting but of info, the Barbary Lion became extinct in the 40's. These subspecies of lion were a popular gift to the Sultans and Kings of Morocco. Modern reports of surviving specimens resembling this subspecies, known for it's dark and copious mane, made these individuals the favourite candidates for a reintroduction in to the Atlas Mountains. The wonders of genetics sadly put this idea to a stop.
