I think the key is trying to spread the dogs out, age wise.. it’s so temping to get a pup, then when it’s 18 months old or 2 years old, you go out and get another pup… they can be a great team for a few years.. but when they retire, from about 8 or 9 years onwards (depending on the type of hunting you do) you can end up with 2 old retired dogs that can live for another 6 or 7 years.

Great write up and pictures… that’s probably about as extreme hunting as you could get I guess.

That’s the sort of strong looking stud dog I’d like in a couple of years.
-
That dog looks a nice strong dog. Is he a rabbit only dog, or does he hunt other stuff as well.
-
I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen one with any symptoms like this, thank god.. I’ve seen a lot of hares too as I live in prime hare country… hopefully it must be very rare.
-
It’s not mine, it’s a friends… but it’s a brilliant dog.. hunts up and finds signal handed.. ferrets, lamps, the lot.. it’s a beddy/grey x bull/grey.
-
Beddy/whippet/grey and the other is beddy/bull/grey.

This was an injured fox which was shot, but still managed to cover a fair distance.. tracked and found by these 2 so it could be dispatched.

These were shot.. then this beddy Lurcher was used to track them.. great nose on them.

This old pic of a beddy/cross killed her first hare at 6 months old. Killed plenty after that too.

They sound perfect for hunting up on the fells. They should be hardy enough to stand the weather, and would hopefully search for scent until it finds some, and not get bored like some dogs can. -
It’s definitely been a good year for hares. There’s lots around that’s for sure.
-
I’ve noticed it a lot. Especially when lamping.. if the field has hares in, then there probably won’t be any rabbits.

I live on a seaside resort, and there £200 a night on a Saturday night, plus bank holiday weekends… I kid you not.
-
Tight b*****ds. .. cost you £200 to stay in a premier inn on a busy night.. if you can afford it, then buy the dog you want.. not the dog that’s cheapest.. if you can’t afford it, then that’s another problem.. but that’s your problem not the person selling the pups.

Bull greyhounds or saluki bull greyhounds?
Moonlighter123 replied to Backandbeyond's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Some of the people I know who’ve had dogs the longest are the biggest wankers going -
I think people confuse intelligence with obedience. I’ve had a few coursing dogs and they been very intelligent. Great hunting brains. Mine have been obedient too, but I put the hours in, and don’t take shortcuts… or buy adult dogs either.

Nice Saluki that. I’ve only ever seen one pure work so I can’t really comment. She wasn’t a good a good Lurcher, but she was only a small bitch.

Couldn’t have said it better… but you see so many times, the first question someone asks is the price. -

Definitely not asking too much.. good dogs will do most things -
I don’t think the games fooked.. I’d say there more game to found than there ever has been. Granted some places have been built on, but there still masses of land, lifting with game.

Big Ron… those 2 red dogs look great.. how are they bred? Any other pictures of them?

Definitely add the Saluki if you want an all rounder.. will probably have better feet, sometimes a better coat, more stamina, less injury prone sometimes as they have a bit more fluid running style. -
This is from typp’s lines I believe, on the sires side.
