Theres nothing id turn my nose up at first time im game for anything ive been called an animal by all my mates one of my favourites is young fish out the river raw dont eat the guts though in case of liver fluke. when we were kids wed cook anything songbirds the lot all on an open fire.

  4. Gut him hang him if you want like you say Ditch no need in the era of the fridge best way is to use the legs and back in a roasting tin with a couple of half onions cover with foil the onions will stop it drying out. I often put potatoes and carrots in as well then put it on a low light for when i get back in Eat the back hot and then carve the legs as cold meat thats all i do nowadays ive jugged em and curried them in the past but you not beat it roasted after youve eaten a fair number of em
  5. Too true them youve got there are safe but deffo dont eat something you dont know the rose hip in the centre makes a good sauce its what the gal on the tv used but the red ones ive tasted them and there far more sweeter than the tradditional rose hip

  8. Well said Ditch mate as you know i am the other member you mentioned and i agree mate it would be a great mark of respect to dedicate this board to Lamper/Gatherer in some way. Will be joining you in raising a glass for him myself later today I often think about him when im out a gathering he would have loved this board like you say too young to have been taken from his family and its good to see him remembered on here he would have been a major contibuter to this board.

  13. I cant comment on others methods but we would run all year round starting when they cut the silage and hay and on through the summer just making sure they werent run too hard ideally a run a day at least and then build em up to four or five runs as the season progressed.
  14. Trouble with mearsy is he hasnt a clue how to cook without getting everything covered in ash or just messed up in general he aught to go on a cooking course and his mate well what more can you say everythings great even when he only puts a crumb in his mouth And the wild gourmets getting permission on the spot like they all give it away like that dream on. Good for taking the mick out of and thats about it about time someone did a programme on what the poor ate during the wars not some colledge geeks playing at it.JMO

  16. Heres an easy one for this time of year 6lb of blackberrys 5 pints of water 6ib of sugar boil and pooor it over the fruit.let it stand for 7 days stirring every day. strain and squeeze the pulp before throwing it away then strain through clean muslin. add sugar to the liquid and let it ferment for another 7 days. then skim and bottle corking lightly. i also add a touch of brandy or rum to help fortify it when bottling.
  17. Rowan berry jelly 4lbs of rowan berrys and 3lbs of crab apples wash and clean the berrys and crabs put in a large pan then put in enough water to cover them. boil for 20 mins then strain through muslem overnight. measure the resulting juice and add a pound of sugar fopr every pint of juice heat slowly til the sugar has melted then boil rapidly for 10 mins till it starts to set when dripped on the back of a spoon. pour into jars while still warm job done. Well smart with venison and game in general.

  21. Welcome Twins like jacob i would give the bitch a multivit plus a calcium tablet a day for the first five weeks and then plenty of raw red meat doubling up on the feed when the bitch has the pups plenty of milk then for all the pups . As regards exercise just treat her as normal till five weeks but dont over do it then just light exercise to keep the muscles toned makes for an easier birthing than if shes done nothing
