  1. Proper little whippets them just the right size All the best daytime rabbit dogs ive ever seen were whippets too small for foxs but they didnt need no terrier or feret to set there bunnys up as they were little enough to work and strike in cover themselves.
  2. Just loke baby rabbits nice in the chip pan Watch out for the ticks when you skin em.
  3. Hows about importing sperm to use on a bitch in season i would have thought this was possible nowadays and would be a lot cheaper option.
  4. Just blown the pic up they are really pale blue arent they. Had a few baby crows of various breeds they all had grey/blue eyes as young uns but not like them your right JD.
  5. Dont all corvids have blue eyes when there young?
  6. Its a sad man that has to steal someones dog theres no pride in owning something you havent reared and entered yourself. All dog thieves should be hung drawn and quatered and fed to the dog they stole.
  7. They were in notts a very long time ago i caught my first in 78 they are really widespread now even in the city on old railway lines and all the old coalboard workings. They definitely dont mind people often sitting just a couple of hundred yards off busy footpaths so it will be interesting to see just how widespread they are good post Mr Darcy
  8. Seen a couple of albinos over the years and know where theres a red and white variation would like to see a chocolate . Zek could the lack of guard hairs be down to the moult[guard hairs moulting first] or just some genetic difference.
  9. As Garn says lay off for a couple of weeks a lot of dogs get bored with fetching a dummy. Once the exitement starts to go i start to do more sending back for the dummy work so as its more interesting for the dog try dropping the dummy with the dog on the lead and walking a couple of yards and slip the pup increase the distance daily. Always found you can crack a few things while doing this walking at heel going on command teaches em to use their nose when you start throwing the dummy in cover to place it and its also retrieving at the same time. Gives the dog more to think about than when
  10. Any info on both these dogs would be greatly appreciated especially how the pups from these lines are doing. cheers Juckler
  11. Its been done irish where brought here and browns were taken to ireland the browns dont like the wet and didnt do so well and the irish didnt manage to get a foothold at all this was done as neither side could make up their minds as to what the best hares were. Statistics are one thing but if the greyhound coursers couldnt tell which was the best or fastest that speaks volumes to me. Any hare that spends its life in the open with no cover to drop into will have to have speed and stamina on its side moreso than if it has evolved escaping into cover. Thats what makes fen hares so good especia
  12. Something ive only ever seen three bitches do putting the hare in a spin so tight it looks like they are chasing their tails and the hare darent break away without being nailed thats what i would prefer but we can all hope cant we.
  13. I would go with the lepus bit The myth of shapechanging theres a few tales of maidens that were hares in disguise perhaps if you kiss one it will change back What do the travellers say if you see a leverret in a field and you think its a stone if it moves its a stone. Unless youve a camera in your hand of course eh Molly.
  14. Used to be a fair amount of hares on salisbury round the stones had five seasons on there mid summer and midwinter many moons ago 75/80.
  15. Depends on where you live if your in the stix and get on with folks give the dogs their heads a dog allowed freedom to hunt alone can become quite canny with an almost cat like quality. The only drawback is if theres a major road near you as you can guarantee as soon as theyve exhausted the game close by they will venture further a field and crossing main roads on their own will usually end up with a dead dog.
  16. An allrounder to me is a dog that can work day or night in any given situation i.e lamping, hunting hare, ferreting and capable of the odd big fella by the time a dogs well grown its not that hard to achieve all these qualitys if a dogs got speed and a bit of brain.
  17. Either a grey or yellow waggie eggs a bit dark for a pied going by the size of the nest and the lining.
  18. Best times after dark till an hour before dawn. Best weather plenty of wind less moon the better and Ditch if its not blowing a gale make sure your making no noise trousers rubbing etc and as you already stated, make sure you dont blow scent on to em.
  19. Always cut your losses if youve got away with something baz no need to be cheeky you might be out of pocket but as long as its only a bit of cash no worries. Nothing worse than antagonising the opposition for a bit of poaching especially if you were in another part of the country and you intend to go back. Or were you innocent like me
  20. great pics! Caught one on the lamp once and there not half as big as they look nasty though it nearly took me mates eye out and it meant it.
  21. No mistaking that baby nice shots J.D
