  7. Nice one Frank im glad you got another i love whippets mate best of luck with her . Shes just right for the start of the season .
  8. You will never take more game with a dog than when lamping unless youve a dog that can work a longnet of course Plus dont your permission grow as darkness falls
  9. What a thread not many realise theres two different types of wind in salukis and collie xs shaun v got it in one theres a difference in short lamping runs which a collie type excells at then theres wind and speed together with endurance that the salukis blessed with you can argue forever but in the day the saluki hybrids will always rule and at night give me a collie blooded dog. If you want an alrounder you will never beat a good bit of both
  10. All mine have taken feather and work with gun and catty and partridge and woodcock on the lamp the young pup ive just got took a squab feeding on the lawn so hes started already at thirteen weeks. Im partial to birds so i wouldnt have it any other way.
  11. At my last house we had a load of clay plant pots in the garage that the sparrows used every year making like a wrens nest with an entrance hole at the top.
  12. Is that one of aubreys old dogs magwitch Ive not seen a knorfolk type for twenty years at least in the flesh as has been stated mick douglas had a good line of knorfolks free from saluki blood and tidy hare dogs fawn and wheaton soft coated dogs of deerhound and collie type theres been many changes to the lurchers makeup with todays popularity and types are soon lost. I know aubry fryer tried to resurect the breed using some sort of briard or bouvier blood but some of his dogs came out looking like terrier xs. I reckon theyve gone the same way as the fawn deerhounds that i would have though
  13. We all went for big bags during the seventies what with the strikes and high unemployment and the decent profit margin hard times make for hard men and better lurchers i can believe theres worse dogs about now theres always been shite out there if you want it just more shite than ever now as the dogs are more popular and bred for looks now instead of abillity but theres a few old strains knocking about that fit the bill. Who knows whats down the line them days may come again sooner than you think
  14. Well done TJ What highlander says is spot on i dont mind mine coming out in the day but no way at night thats my time.
  15. Nice one Doxhope Hillman avenger low sump get them bunnys in the middle of both wheels and clean kills every time best we had was 14 on the way out dogging. They dont make cars like them no more
  16. Get the salt pot its a big ginger slug Cracking close up though J.D
  17. Leverettes will always need speed to avoid capture and old charlie hunts in twos and threes in the summer months where i live so i cant see it . We were all taught evolution at school but personally i dont believe we came from fish or amphibians animmals might have gained or lost strengths on how good or bad their predation is but thats took millions of years to do. As for something evolving into something else has that ever happened ? the government would have us believe so Its like the missing link its my belief its missing cos there aint one
  18. You dont Molly first nights can be a struggle if your dogs not got its recall together 100% But they soon learn to watch the beam an hour in an area with plenty of bunnys thats all it usually takes. Their nose will come in when the bunnys out the beam i like mine to follow on as many rabbits just give up when they hit cover and a dog that not follow on will never catch the same amount as one that will.
  19. Summers are for mouching and letting pups learn i get out early and late and a bit if bunny bashing with the old dogs on them estates that are too warm to do later in the year . Apart from laying the ferret up and leaving larger game alone life goes on as normal cant see the point in getting the dogs and myself out of shape just cos theres no R in the month i thought that applied to shellfish not shushies .
  20. Plenty of munties give a bark if you disturb them thats all you usually hear if there in thick cover and theres plenty of them around you rew where roe are thin on the ground. For that reason i would have said muntie. Spent years hunting fallow and apart from the rut ive never heard em make a sound.
