  1. Cant understand you mate.You are pissed off that the sport you enjoy is banned but you would like to see some other persons sport banned just because you dont agree? Double standards or what? shooting hares, SPORT,dont make me laugh its the control of a species and nothing else yes its shooting to control numbers,some shots are easy some are testing,the disadvantage of being a good shot esecialy if your walking is you have to carry the hares,no fun on soft muddy ploughing,i prefer to course them but shooting can be good sport to
  2. its not so much a sport its control,yes i would rather slip a dog on a daytime hare or even one on the lamp than shoot it,but this is control how many hares would get caught in the day if you replaced the guns with dogs?? it would be like bedlam,amusing but not practicle
  3. Ferreting an assential guide,has any one read this book?? i recieved mine a while back and was surprised that it had not had a mention on THL. The book is certainly the best book on ferreting available at the present time and i think it will become a timless classic,with nearly 200 pages it is a weath of information particully for youngsters starting out the book covers acquiring and looking after your ferrets including ferret welfare,what gear do you need? that depends on the type of ferreter you are, its full of usefull tips nets it covers the various types ie purse nets,long nets ,poke nets
  4. Well its that time of year again,the shooting season is finished and most shoots are letting their ferreteters into the coverts to ferret the rabbits. And now the hare shoots are starting,my brother spends a lot of time beating and picking up thruoghout the shooting season and has now got invites to 4 hare shoots in suffolk the first today the expected bag is about 300 hares this will be followed by a second shoot next week where they expect a further 200 hares after that they are left alone,similar numbers are expected on the other shoots,it always seems a shame to shoot that many hares but i

  6. try simon whitheads new book the essential guide to ferreting,its very well written and has some of the best photos on ferreting to be seen,if anyone is just starting out its a mine of infomation which you can refer back to at any time and with a whole chapter on ferret locaters it will answer the frequently asked question how does the mk3 locater work,cost £20 or if you go on amazon you might get it cheaper, with a book like this,you can refer back to different matters ie locters when your not sure ,aa half day or even a full day even if you cram it full is a lot to take in,what are you look
  7. hi,must be lots of people willing to pay to learn fieldsports out there,pat carey the warrener takes people out foxcalling and snaring, charges a lot of money as well,he has bed and breakfast arranged locally and does quite well,simon whitehead does ferreting courses as well,give it a go you dont know till you try??

    Will fill in the gory details soon, but in short loads of duck, but lots of sods law and poor shooting by me. I got two goldeneye, a drake on the eden and a hen on the Tay, my mate got one wigeon, but we missed many more. They were like rockets in a 35mph wind! Just ate the Hen goldeneye, seared and braised with a haw and orange gravy, yum I'll post more when I get a moment which wont be too soon! look forward to your post,save us some duck and orange gravy to go with it,jim

  13. no7 shot out of cylinder and 1/4 most pigeons shot over decoys are only 20--35yds 7s got plenty in reserve at that range

  16. cracking dogs mate,a bit slow to mature and not as fast as some other crosses but good hunting dogs and will put plenty in the bag,good luck

  18. hi,about 2 hrs further north than you,thought about trying your area for the ducks,do you get many fowlers down there??,was up nigg bay a week ago had 2 greylag,took the barrels of my old hammergun into mcleouds of tain to get the choke bored out so will have another go there next week,good article you wrote cheers jim
  19. if your failing with the spinners,pop down the supermarket for some sprats and try wobbling or sink and draw,if you feel like a break just let it sink to the bottom and it still fishes as a dead bait,all else failing to catch take the remaining sprats home and cook em for tea,very nice all the best

    if theres so many big cats out there ,why with all the people lamping and shooting at night ,more would have been shot or photographed
  23. i like the beddy whippet crosses as well plenty of speed for those short sharp dashes,sharp little dogs these mine tends to yip a bit though
