  10. hi, a good book on longnetting is long overdue, since glen waters introduced the quick set method and brian brinded added the basket system long netting has become popular we use longnets and dogs almost all the time ferreting now.But a good book covering all aspects of long netting should be well received by hunters young and old, i look forward to reading it

  13. luv those pics, good action shots well done
  14. I think this should be encouraged all over the country and well publcicsed if only to show the LACS that they have not saved a single hare by their campaigns to ban the use of dogs which had lower kill rates and a more natural way of weeding out the weaker animals. The majority if shooters I know would not shoot a hare they leave them for the lurchers, greyhounds and beagles. these shoots are about control during the shooting season they dont shoot any ground game, febuary signals the start of the hare shoots and fox drives the keepers and estate owners inviting thiose who helped by beat

    FOX NETS

world hunters was advertising some, makes them to order
  16. like many ferret books i found this had to much history of the ferret and rabbit and not enough about working?, i know that books have come a long way since the 80s,but ferreting the essential guide is streets ahead on working ferrets and the photos are really good
  17. over 45 years i have read most of the ferret books, but i have to agree with you there this is certainly the best its very informative and has the best ferreting photos of any book, the chapter on locaters should answer the most frequently asked question on THL how do i work the mk3?? and for old and new ferreters there is somthing of interest in this book, well worth the £20
  18. nearly bought that on ebay got outbid at the last moment, john marchington isent it
  19. whats your favourite ferreting book or which did you find the most informative??
  20. charlieT your right there protected! Acording to the current general licence, collared doves are pest species which can be taken under several general licence agreements, assuming you shot this dove as part on an agreement with the landowner (or you are the owner) to prevent damage to stored crops or to prevent disease then you were not committing an offence http://www.basc.org.uk/media/basc_informat...s_in_the_uk.pdf see also http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/r...cencebirds.aspx sorry better get my facts first always fort they was protected you are par
  21. have you ever tried it ??? no becouse your answer is a very stupid one !!!! nettinghares takes alot of skill whether your gatenetting longnetting runnetting get out and try it before slating it as with any longnetting at night it takes far more skill and fieldcraft than just slipping a dog but each to there own?
  22. some netted hares do die soon after capture[shock i suppose] but a good many hares have been netted and moved around the country prior to the ban, once netted hares were placed in small dark boxes to help reduce stress and restrict movement some do die but many went on to help stock coursing grounds
  23. your right there the fox shoots are following on from the hare shoots, same group of guns,as far as control goes it works the shoot helpers get some sport and the estates get hare and fox numbers down at a very small cost, ground game is not shot at during the season just on the hare and fox shoots afterwards, good sport and control
  24. 44 guns ,stand one walk one with a few extra beaters helping out,5 drives total hares shot 610 next weeks shoot is a neibouring estate large bag expected here as well 4 shoots in total thats a lot of hares, evan after this shoot lots of hares on the ground though i expect the keepers will be picking up several wounded hares over the next few days,as a form of control this is certainly effective, most of the guns were beaters and pickers up on the local shooting estates,i would love to long net this place prior to the shoots
