Hi i used to shoot findhorn alot but moved up to Lybster this year ,nothing much up here either the closest place for me now is Dornoch or Nigg, do you shoot the ythan thats a brilliant place normally full of ducks and geese, ive had some great flights there Yeah the Ythan is where i do most of my fowling mate...Nae much on here just now due to the pressure of shooting there under. still get them on the hard weather but most of the time now there on the ponds and slains loch! have you tried castle stewart up by inverness, thats worth trying when your staying at findhorn,park u

I use the same but altered to fit the dogs everyday collar.. She's mainly a bushing/ferreting dog and is off following her nose without the slip at night.. These catches are hard to find now,Johnsons fieldsports used to sell this type of slip lead, could do with someone usfull to start remaking them??would be interested in buying them, the bottom picture the catch has been adjusted, i also have a vintage version of this type of catch on a old knakered lead, used for running the dog with a collar, will put a pic up when i have time later

These are hard to get hold of nowdays,but there the dogs bollocks when it comes to doubles, i have one of these for sale on ebay item no 180781915371 , i dont think anyone makes these anymore, the catch alone is worth good money even if the leather work is knackered [im interested in buying any of these old ones]

Yes some lads run there dogs with collars some without, i always left the collar on and used a 6mm round leather slip lead, and never had any problems but some just wont run a dog with a collar on

What is your favourite type of slip lead, ?? some just use a bit of string others nylon or leather slips what do you use?? what if you run two dogs what do you use ? the old type of double slip leads are hard to find nowdays there is a double with toggle release on ebay item no 180781915371 but these are getting scarce now and the brass catch that is used is unavailable to buy now, So whats your favourite type of slip?

The CLA is the biggest but for a better day or weekend i would recomend the Midland game fair the Welsh game fair is probably the best fair for dogmen and certainly one of the best value for money shows, Frampton in Gloustershire is the best one day show its very rural and old fashioned a smashing show and north of the border Scoone in Perthshire is a really good one or Moy in the highlands that one is small but enjoyable, which ever show you go to take time to enjoy it theres normally somthing there for everyone,

Our young lab is 8 mths we introduced her to a road kill pheasant [fairly fresh] as an introduction to cold game she gave it a good sniffing but then just ignored it, later on the walk she froze then dived into the hedge and flushed a cock pheasant, so i have no dought your springer will hunt of her own accord when she winds game, good luck with the pup

Acme 210.5 or 211.5 are the most popular training whistles, like ade33uk says the pitch dosent matter the whistles are marked with the model number once you have bought one stick with the same model that way you will always get the same tone whistle if you lose or need to replace it

Our dog was micro chipped for £10 after paying £400 for a pup the extra small charge seems irelavant really plus there is piece of mind that if your dog is lost or stolen you have more chance of getting it back, also micro chipping and insurance would reduce the number of litters born each year, there are so many litters born where people think they will make a quick buck then they find they cant sell the pups,

Try this drink, Out walking the other week picked some sweet cicely [ looks like parsley but smells strongly of aniseed] thought this could make a nice drink, picked a good sized hand full shredded it and put into a 5ltr water container [empty] poured on lots of sugar [probably to much least thats what the wife said] then poured on 2 bottles of gin give it a good shake to mix then shake every 2 or 3 days after 2 weeks it began to look a bit discusting ?? and the colour of stale piss decanted it through a muslin cloth and tried it, wow its absolutly marvalous strond aniseed sweeter than perno

good luck with your pup, a visit to your local libary should produce a good selection of books you can read these for free, you can than decide which one you like best before you buy on amazon for the best price, gundog training dvds are available from paul french fairly dear but you get good quality advise and product, good luck jim -
