pet breeders and show dogs and hancocks
chartpolski replied to whin's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Bob, I was racing Non-Peds in the 60's & 70's, and still go along to watch now; but your'e right, and it's not just in Scotland.... to see handicaps here in the North East of England with only 6 to 12 dogs is a shame. In the old days it was a magnificent acheivment to win a R.Ch, there was that many dogs ! But now, it's fair to say some get their R.Ch's on a bye !! I ran at the Rising Sun in The British Open Championship, and there would be well over 100 dogs; running a heat, quarter final , semi final and final to get amongst the winners, but at Cambois Open a few days ago, some classes -

I've got a 1st edition "Badgers at my Window", by Drabble. I would never sell it; it's amongst my collectiion of classic books, along with some of the great hunting, lurcher, whippet and greyhound books ! I also have some great books by the New Zealand bushman, Barry Crump; his "Good Keen Man" is the best hunting book I've ever read. Bob, my little Lurcher bitch, Delta, is a 23", rough coated, six year old, Beddy/Grey X Deer/Grey-Whippet/Grey, and still does times over 150 yards to handicap in at the Whippet track ! She's about 20 yards slower than the scratch dogs, but that's still faster than -
Do they still have the delay in getting to full power ? I wasn't impressed with the one I saw, certainly no better than a normal Blitz. Cheers. was it a 170 you saw again the blits ......... in you post on the last thread it was ....... Yes, it was a 170, and as it cost more than a standard 240, I wasn't impressed. The blitz was as good and didn't have the warm up time. I'm not looking for an argument, simply stating my opinion. When cost/performance comes into it, HID simply isn't worth it for lampimg. Cheers.

I had running dogs before Plummer wrote his books, and to be honest, although his books were a decent read, I still prefer Walsh, Col. Hancock, (not THAT Hancock !!), Douglas-Todd, and even Drabble, before he turned "anti" ! I remember Plummer coming up here to buy Miniture Jack Russels and Game birds...after 10 minutes of his patter, he was laughed out of the bar !! Nothing wrong with reading books, as long as you realise they are just the authors opinions ! I've read a couple of Darcy's books and enjoyed them. I sent one to a pal in Aussie who took me hunting, and I think he enjoyed it too. -
I think the first thing is to know the parents. I wouldn't buy a pup from someone who couldn't guarantee what the breeding was. Cheers.

We all know that there are quiet a few dogs out there that are breeding unknown and do very well indeed, so like most things, nothing is set in stone. All you can ever do is try and stack the odds, be that by work history or blood stock history/pedigree.......call it what you will. I agree, Wilf ! I was just playing the Devils Advocate ! I find it amusing when certain people don't practice what they preach, though ! LOL ! Cheers.

As much as I enjoy chatting to you, Whin, this is my last word on this post, HOW CAN YOU PONTIFICATE ABOUT PURITY OF BREEDING WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN BE SURE OF THE SIRE TO YOUR OWN PUPS ?? Cheers.

You still put two different dogs across your bitch. The lad who had the other dog wasn't to happy as he wasn't privvy to your breeding "plan" ! How can you plan and keep a line if you don't know which dog was the sire ????? I wouldn't go on to much about when Bruce was at yours....you know he got injured during the day, and you and Dany went lamping with your dogs only, and it wasn't a very productive night, was it ? Cheers.

Whin, I find it hard to take you seriously about breeding........ when you were the man who put two different dogs across your bitch the same day. Cheers.

wanting to take the lurchers on a holiday?

I thought coursing was banned in France ? Only hunting with Hounds is allowed. Cheers. -
I remember a "rescue dog" that did very well, and is still doing it at eight. Cheers.

Right behind my house are a few fields and a small nature reserve. There's pleanty game there; woodcock, partridge, pheasant, rabbit, fox, badger, roe.... but no hares. There hasn't been hares for about 35-40 years, since the new motorway cut it off from the rest of the land......UNTIL YESTERDAY ! I walk across these fields about four times a day to go to my allotment. Yesterday, I went over, fed the hens, collected the eggs, etc, and headed home. About 200 yards from home, the dogs were mooching about and suddenly..GAME ON !!! They spotted a hare that had lifted a fair way off and they were a

You're right mate; evidently Ms Noble used to put Greyhound into her Ardkinglas Deerhounds now and again, to stop them getting like Wolfhounds, I talked to old lads who put Beddy into their Lakies, to add a bit fire, it's hapened with many breeds, but if I was after an F! Whipet/Deer, and saw one advertised as such, I'd be pissed off if I later found it had another breed in it ! Cheers. Sorry to go off subject a little but do you have any proof that Ms Noble added greyhound? It seems to be comon knowledge in Deerhound circles, and evidently she was quite open about it. Ch

Problem is, mate, when you sell or advertise dogs on here "for a mate", some people automaticaly think the worst. They think you are a peddler using an excuse, they don't realise you could GENUINELY be doing someone a favour ! Cheers. -

Bunny, no arguments from me, we all have opinions. My idea of an F1 is a first cross between two purebreds, i.e. "labradoodle " is a first cross between pure poodle and pure labrador,I class my bitch, Lima, an Fi as she is a first cross, deerhound/ Greyhound. In my mind, there can only be TWO breeds in an F1. I watch Grews every week at the track, some are first cross Whippet/ Greyhound, others are w/g x w/g, which I call F2, then there are F3, F4, etc. But the thing they all have in common, is that there is only TWO breeds in them. A Grew x Deerhound would to me be a Lurcher, or more correctl

BEWARE GENUINE DOG LADS ON THIS SITE
chartpolski replied to welshwizard's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
So; has anyone been daft enough to PM Merlin and ask what the hell he is on about ???? Cheers. -
If it was Grew, (Whippet/Greyhound), X Deerhound, it wasn't an F1. Cheers.

I've got another Deer type bitch, that was bred out of two workers, and both her and the bitch out of non-workers were brought up and entered the same way, and I would defy anyone who didn't know them to tell which was bred from workers and which wasn't. Of course it's probably better to use working parents...but how much better ? Cheers.
