is the whippet becoming to popular for its own good
chartpolski replied to workinwhippet's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I like Whippets; they have their niche in the running/working dog world. They are great ferreters and lampers and wonderful little rabbit/bushing dogs. It's a bit disingenuos to think they make good hare, fox or deer dogs... they don't !! OK, people will say "my Whippet does hare/fox/deer, but these dogs will be one off's, not the norm. At their own game, they are grand little dogs, and a pleasure to watch working. Cheers. -
If you are talking about "Non-Ped Whippets", I guess there is a clue in the name ! LOL ! Cheers.
-
On the K9 site, someone is advertising a mating , pure Greyhound sire, Non-Ped Whippet/Greyhound dam; pups should be "perfect for Lurcher racing" he reckons !! Cheers.
-
ive never heard that before or believe it 50/50 in my opinion if you put a beddy dog on a whippet bitch its 1/4 beddy 3/4 whippet was big into greyhounds few years back always looked at the bitch first if i was getting a pup thats why i said id see other opinions Utter nonsense !! The pups would be half Beddy, half Whippet ! Cheers.

BARBRA WOODHOUSE..SIT..STAY.
chartpolski replied to ferret features's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Perhaps you are being a bit zenophobic here ! Recall and retrieve are just about all we English lads need from a dog. As long as it catches, that'll do Cheers. -
Once you "cross breed", genes go out of the window ! Yes, there is "hybrid vigour", but when you put two different types of dog together, as in Lurchers, you could get anything ! Cheers.
-
It most certainly doesn't count !! LOL !! Bill is from the Ashington/Bedlington area, Northumberland.... no where near the Borders ! I think he did run his dogs around the Border areas though Cheers.

They are only young, got them about 6 month ago as P.O.L. s. Strange thing is they are back to 5 eggs a day, from 6 hens ! It seems like an abberation ! It was only a week or so that they went off the lay, or had soft eggs ! I give them crushed egg shells regularly and they are fed on Layers Pellets and boiled mash, they get pleanty of greens, and I've checked them for mites, non ! I will give them some oyster shell with there grub, and hope for the best. Thanks for all the advice ! Cheers.
-
It depends on the breeding, weather it's a dog or bitch, (some bitches grow a bit after their first season). I doubt any pup has reached it's full height at 6 months. Cheers.
-
It's just the normal grit. They have been laying well, it's just the last few days I've been getting soft shells. I'll try the Oystershell grit, Thanks Cheers.
-
They're penned and get grit and crushed egg shells. Cheers.

I'm still fairly new to the chicken keeping. I have six Bovans Goldlines and until recently they were giving six eggs per day, then they dropped off to five then four then three per day, but only for a couple of days. Now there are five a day, but two are very soft shelled. I feed them on Layers pellets and once or twice a week on home made mash, usualy veggies and kitchen scraps. I've been told it may be due to moulting, but they look normal. Could it be to do with the rain we've had continuosly for the last few days ? Cheers.

I watched QT last night, and quite frankly, I was ashamed !!!!! The first two comments from that arsehole Oborne, the "Political Commentator", and the worm dressed as a "Christian Priest", implied that the children were some how to blame !! They back-peddled furiously when they heard the audience reaction ! How the hell could this crime NOT be Racialy/Religiously motivated ?? These Paki's think that white girls are fair game, they wouldn't treat their OWN children this way !! Fair play to Dimbilby for posing the question "what if it had been a gang of white skinheads raping muslim

if it works for foxhounds
chartpolski replied to Coyotehunter's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
CH, you put a post and picures up, so don't be supprised when people reply; after all, it is a FORUM for discussion. The majority of replies were not what you wanted to hear, but WERE polite. You seem to have made your mind up regarding coupling your Whippets, most others think it's a bad idea, that's life ! Best of luck with your dogs, but don't think everyone else is wrong, just because it's not what you want to hear ! Cheers. -
if it works for foxhounds
chartpolski replied to Coyotehunter's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Hmmm; It probably works for 'Hounds as they are a pack animal, but sight hounds, running dogs, more usualy work alone. I wouldn't do it for the reasons allready mentioned, if the adult took off after a hare, I'd hate to think of the consequences for the pup ! Cheers. -
WCM, a good post, and I agree with what you say, except for the fact tht shows were going long before the 70's... I used to go to shows held in pub carparks, and yes, they were 100% working Lurchers and men. I can now see the Lurcher going in three directions; the"Show Lurcher", bred only for looks, the "Racing Lurcher", bred only for speed, and the "Working Lurcher", bred by genuine people to do what Lurchers were intended for !!! It's becoming increasingly harder to find the latter, but they are still being bred !! Cheers.
-
I've never bred a litter in my life, but if I thought one of my bitches was good enough to breed off, I would be sorely tempted to cull all the pups bar the ones I was keeping myself, rather than they go to some of the messers out there ! Cheers.
-
Got to be a wind up !! LOL !! Why not relocate a few foxes to your local chicken farm while you're on ? Cheers.
-
Albert, there is no way you can tell if a dog is a "pure" Whippet, simply by looking at it !! It's impossible, no matter how good a judge of dogs you are ! I could bring an 18 lb bitch from my local track along to one of your shows, and most people would swear it was a Whippet... yet it is half Greyhound!!! If you are to continue haveing Pedigree or "pure" Whippet racing, then you have to bite the bullet and insist on seeing the registration papers...no papers-no race, unless they go in the "under 23" Lurcher race ! As for the "Lurcher" racing, this was ruined a long tme ago, when people s

If you have, say, a first cross Deerhound/Greyhound, it's classed as an "F1", or 1st cross or 1st generation. If you then mated that with another 1st cross Deer/Grey, the prodgeny would be "F2" or 2nd generation and so on down the line. Cheers.

I got an invite, and joined....but it can't be that exclusive and "invite only", if he is inviting everyone, including people he doesn't know ! LOL ! Cheers.

Let's just get this nonsense out the way !! Northernlite is someone who has a grudge against me, just look at his previous posts, comments, etc ! If he was genuine he would say who he is and get it out in the open ! He only joined a few days ago.. I've been on here for years, and on every site,I use the same name "CHARTPOLSKI" this guy knows every thing but he has only been on here a few days ! Why doesn't he just man up and say what his problem with me is ??

Bear, thanks mate, but last year I only went to one show, that was Morpeth, and I went to see Gin, Woodga, Molly and a few other friends and didn't show my dogs! The rest of the summer I was down in Australia, hunting foxes with Lurchers, Terriers and Hounds ! The poeple who have a pop at me on here haven't a clue what I do or where do it...they seem to be just jelous pricks ! Cheers. chart come over hear sometime you can do a bit with us no prob Been there mate ! Was in County Offaly two year ago, the local landowner who was also the Master of the Beagle Pack , took me out with t
