  1. Sound advice about getting the pup used to other dogs aswell as livestock. We go on ratting sessions with a large group of dogs, usuallly 6-10 and some of them are aggressive and on the last session my dog was hurt more by aggressive dogs than the rats
  2. There's a photo of one in Jackie Drakeford's latest book, not very inspiring really, it's thrown very much to the GSD side. There's a pic of a really nice tan bitch, (same one I saw at the Midland last year), over on m o o c h e r s, the thread's called Pics from Galloway today, and was posted up 19 August in the show section. Smallmouth your right they aren't the best lookng lurchers although I'd be happy having an ugly sod so long as it worked The bitch in the smoochers pics looks nice
  3. Would you ever consider a dog from this breeding JD? yes i would give it a go one day...but just not yet......other things in the pipeline....lol.... Anything interesting in your pipeline  You going for a Bull x JD?
  4. Some pups settle after 1 night, my last dog howled for 7 nights and nearly gave me a breakdown through lack of sleep :11: DON'T go down to the dog, do that and you are screwed
  5. I agree about hares Millet, seems such a waste (to me) to shoot one although on some of my permission its shoot foxes or no permission
  6. Would you ever consider a dog from this breeding JD?
  7. Some dogs just take a while for the penny to drop Although they do say dogs can be like there owners
  8. I've got a titled male at stud. Parents direct imports from Belgium, ALL pedigree Schutzhund III titled dogs at least. Sired security/police and sport dogs, also a cattle herding dog Haemophilia negative and hip score of 2:2. Not ONE show dog in ancestry £200
  9. Hi Willy, Yes the clip showed malis with the Dutch police, did you see the end of the clip where the dog latches onto its own handler I've been running manwork classes/courses since 1997, instructing service/security/sport/ dog handlers and after seeing various breeds and hundreds of dogs a well bred (this is soooo important) GSD is IMO the best manwork dog.
  10. How was the dog on fox and what is the dogs stamina like? (pre-ban) Simon
  11. The funny thing is I said it was ok but had prefered Dave Harcombes book :11:
  12. I didn't know he wrote it until recently I stayed at his place in Caithness as a teenager and at the time he asked me what I thought of the Working Terrier by Mark Giles and the books of Michael Shaw
  13. I bought this book from the Midland and have just finished reading it. I was surprised that I enjoyed it as to be honest her other books didn't do a lot for me. There are some good chapters on working, including fox, deer and smaller game (pre-ban) and some good photos. Worth adding to your collection.
  14. Has anyone got any "different" ideas for cooking pigeon breast?
  15. Is that the one disguised as a beaten up Landy? :11: ..............mine is JOEB Tell the truth JOEB, you couldn't hit the rabbit with the gun so you coursed it in the landy
  16. 9 Stone, thats 126lb, my two added together are about 130lb, are you sure its not a newfoundland Who says they would be useless? I agree that we have enough breeds doing the job and I would always choose a bull or wheaton cross
  17. I have friends who have imported dogs from thre Czech republic, Holland and Belgium. The parents of my dog were Belgian imports. These countries seem to produce the best dogs, although a friend has recently been to Poland sourcing dogs
  18. The rabbit population where I go has been decimated over the last couple of years by myxi, out with the lamp a few weeks ago, walked a couple of hundred acres and saw three rabbits In contrast in an area which I regularly pass there is a huge population, at dusk I can spot over a hundred rabbits in a very short time but permission is impossible
  19. My dog is exactly the same, he is a very inteligent dog but still gives 100% on animals he has no chance of catching. I agree although I do think they have something to offer but a couple of problems are finding a suitable GSD, the majority of shepherds in this country have difficulty getting in the car, and also the ones I have seen (1/2 cross) have not really looked like lurchers.
