  1. A few lads have taken trips over to Slovakia with lurchers for boar/deer and fox...........
  2. I think there is a general confusion between a physical correction and beating your dog because you have no self control......Titbits, voice and clickers are great and have there uses but i spent many years training imported shepherds, malinois and rotties, try correcting a high drive dog with a high pain threshold with a naughty boy comment and the offer of a biscuit..........
  3. Leveller is able to get very close to wildlife as they have come to realise him and his dogs pose no threat
  4. There are bound to be shite wheatens out there but it must be said wheaten lurchers are nowhere near as popular as other crosses and long may that continue............
  5. I own a wheaten lurcher and have seen a few but none of them have ever had Kennel Club blood, its the same as any other ruined show shite..........
  6. Are you refering to line bred lurchers as pure lurchers????
  7. I disagree that no dog needs to be hit, BUT i mean some form of physical correction, not a beating as the owner has lost control. Some dogs have an amazing drive and hard temperament and can ignore a correction, for others a physical correction is totally inappropriate. And in not talking about most dogs, i bred and worked imported shepherds and if you were inclined you could of beaten them with a lorry axle and they would wag there tails and say "and"???
  8. Is it inaudioble to humans, a bit like Aaron Neville?
  9. I don't think so, i was purely trying to ignite some debate that didn't involve "what do you think of a saluki/bull/basenji/tortoise" or "why do people like bull lurchers", now thats been done to death.......Although you get brownie points for the drawing thread..........
  10. nine times out of ten a physical correction isn't required with MOST dogs, depends on the individual temperament, although saying that my wheaten brings out a side of me that reaches for the hammer........
  11. I have owned bull crosses that are good rabbiting dogs but nobody go out purposefully to buy a bull cross for rabbits.......
  12. You keep labs so in theory "working dogs" doesn't apply to you
  13. Now i was sorely tempted to start a "what cross is best" or "why have bull in a lurcher" but i resisted the temptation. Now this question is aimed pre ban obviously or if you are fortunate to live in a country with a less dictatorial political system!!!! What did you deem an all rounder?? May seem an obvious question but its relative and ones mans all rounder is another mans rubbin rag Is an all rounder the dog that could be worked in a variety of hunting situations against all quarry and put up a creditable performance, that may be ferreting and lamping bunnies, working alongside terri
  14. will try it mate, me mates got one. Unless you are experienced and have excellent timing you using an electric collar will f**k up your problem ten fold, my advice would be go back to basics, DON'T allow the dog anywhere near sheep off the lead, the warning sign was the dog messing around, you failed to act quick enough which resulted in Larry the lamb becoming a kebab and after the dog has killed a sheep its makes it 100 times worse. Like i say forget the collar and go back to basics, my young dog was steady but one day a flock ran and he chased them for 20 yards before recalling,
  15. Interesting topic Ray, temperament is often overlooked. I have owned dogs of varying temperaments, from laid back dogs to hyper nut jobs and i prefer the easy life and hyper dogs wind me up. Had lurchers that are so chilled and easy to live with, they are quiet in the kennel, car and worked well, also owned dogs which whinge whenever they are left alone, or cant be with you and it boils my p*ss tbh, one thing i also hate are fighters, luckily enough i have never allowed any of mine to be as its one of my pet hates. The only reason i have kept the whingers is they have been good dogs in the

  18. a panda with a whisk would destroy them both at the same time. True but a condor with an ice cream scoop and a bad attitude is the daddy!!!!!
  19. If a rosette is that important then go buy a pedigree breed, a waistcoat, bow tie and start practicing your "ring mince" with what appears to be a barbed hook inserted in your anus.......
  20. Everyone on the forum knows i'd knock him spark out within 30 seconds.......28 of those would be taken up with dazzling footwork......On a more serious note, who would win if a grizzly bear with dementia fought a silverback with a bowie knife?
