I'm not sure what the case was with Griff. He was found wandering after a travellers camp upped and left. I can only guess at why they left him (if they did) and I think they may have tried working him and at 6 months he was too young. I'm not going to say its been easy with him, he has had some huge issues from such treatment that I don't wish to think about but as I didn't actually get him to work I have persevered with him and I still think he will make a good working dog. He's 4 in october (ish) and i'd never be without him now. I always get comments about him and asked if he's availa

I don't know about elsewhere in the country but down here rescues are full of lurchers. A lot seem to to get dumped when travellers move on, certainly not all of them are because of this but it does seem to make a % of them. The place I got Griff from was full to the brim and i'd say 45% of the dogs there were lurchers and that was an all breed rescue. I have absolutely no objections to people breeding litters when they have a need to, if they want a puppy themselves etc but what annoys me as Scallywag says is people breeding shit from unproven dogs just because they look nice or to make s

Coursing racing and showing both days I think.

I'm not saying anyone SHOULD take a rescue dog but thank f*ck for the people who do!

My boy was dumped at 6 months after so bad treatment. There was nothing wrong with him whatsoever and I get comments everywhere I go about him i've had him 3 years nearly and he is an outstanding dog. As for an outstanding worker, time will tell. I agree with LG, the problem tends to lie with the idiots that dump the dogs, not the dogs themselves. I'm sorry Kate but how do you know that these 'dumped mutts' aren't quality dogs! Dogs end up in rescue for all sorts of reasons and rescue german shepards have gone on to make good police dogs etc so why not rescue lurchers good workers. I'

There is something seriously wrong... They are using the wrong shaped ball and playing by the wrong rules!

This makes me sick! How were they allowed to get away with this, its not exactly a short term thing is it. Poor, poor child!

Paris' favourites are yorkies and westies for some reason and they always have suicidal thoughts around her! I bought Griff a control lead today, not because I wanted it but only leads that were the length I wanted had stupid diamante crap on them and his other lead has been chewed by my greyhound so I needed one like now!
-
I always get the 'rat on a rope' types that you describe sandymere! They always come bounding up to my bitch who hates them. I rarely muzzle her now if she is on lead as I always have her under close control but they just seem to insist on trying to get in her mouth! Normally they are off lead and under no control whatsoever. I always tell the owners that she doesn't like small dogs, could they please get them under control and they don't seem to comprehend it!

I cannot reccommend the halti highly enough to give a bit of piece of mind and control over a dog. I'm not sure how they work with a muzzle though or if you can use them with muzzles as Griff doesn't wear one.

Ok, thank Kay. I was just thinking if there might be any collar alternatives that might make you feel safer but the only thing I can really thing of is a martingale type collar but i'm personally not keen on them. All of mine have normal fishtail collars and the martingale collars are used only occassionly and i'd never use one on Griff.

Halti I use the halti shown, they are easy to get hold of but the gentle leader worked just as well on Griff when I was in Belfast before I started using the halti. Paris is the same if I take her to an event where there is lure coursing, my normally laid back docile grey turns into the devil incarnate but she's only a small bitch and I don't have trouble holding her. Just out of interest Kay, what type of collar do you have her in?
-
I do know people that use harnesses with grey but when I first got Griff I used one with him and I found it just as bad. I use a halti on Griff as he can be very strong at times and he throws himself around when he is onlead if he sees offlead dogs playing around, purely because he wants to do the same. It works wonders! I know many people are against such methods of control and I often don't use it, i'd rather train him *but* when I walk him with my mum she is too worried to hold him as he's so strong and she will take him if he has the halti on. The halti also has a connecter that

As has been said, drink water when you get in and take two painkillers! I normally get a bitch of a hangover but I did this on a friends advice and was fine the following morning!

I love The Eagles. Their new album is excellent! A favourite of mine is Desperado too but i'll always love Hotel California. I have to say though, some modern artists do have meaning to their songs. Take a listen to Beth Hart, her songs do have real meaning, Leave a light on is brilliant! At the moment I quite like Duffy, Gabriella Cilmi and Amy McDonald, all 'real' artists so to speak that seem to actually think about what they write. I grew up listening to the like of The Eagles, The Beatles, Springsteen and Chris Rea and still listen to a lot of 'older' stuff. My cd collection

I find it a bit bizarre. I can understand rearing a fox if it was orphaned etc but having it in your coat with a collar on seems a bit odd.

Are you all decendants of David Dickinson?!

I don't think i've ever used the chatroom on facebook either.

Lovely pics, looks like you have some good country there!

How did I miss this! I can cook, i'm actually quite a good cook. I don't often cook big extravagent meals as I don't see the point for the two of us but I quite enjoy cooking most of the time.

One of our beaches isn't open to dogs between 8am and 8 pm until october now I believe but I think the other one is ok, i'll have to check but there are plenty of brilliant stretches of beach within easy reach of here. I love going to West Wittering with them!
-
I take mine to the beach all the time, Paris can't go off as she will kill small dogs but the other two love it! These were all taken by my friend before I got my new camera.

If its your first tattoo speak to a couple of tattooists first before you make a choice, any good one will be happy to help. Afterall you are spending the money and will have a permenant reminder. The tattooist I use is brilliant and will always customise a design to how I want it but unless you are in Sussex its probably no help.

I had a terrier that was a bit like that. Normal everyday life together was fine but she was very possesive over myself and my daughter and also food, toys etc. Is it possible to crate one of the dogs to keep them seperate? Also some bitches just can't live together, speying one or both of them might help but obviously not if you are planning on breeding from either of them. I had to always be on my guard with my girls, Missie usually started the punch ups but Paris usually did the most damage. You might find they just need time together to settle but keep a close eye on them.
