  1. I have no doubt crows will be in amongst them. I have shot a crow roost for years. All crows heading for one central roost. It moves around a little as they dodge my attacks but crows they are, not rooks or Jackie's, the solitary crow!
  2. .22 shorts are still made. My local has some s&b in stock.
  3. Same here. Cracks me up how some say crows are solitary. How come when I'm decoying corvids crows are the majority shot?
  4. Pecking the same grain on the same field. Crows, jackdaws and rooks. No meadow pipet or lark nest is safe from them all come spring. I just wish I could get nearly all of them!
  5. Yes, when I was out Saturday night I actually felt the warm front arrive! It felt weird. Like fan heater had been switched on. I shall not be making that mistake again. I will confirm it is a hare from now on!!
  6. Or tomorrow, might get itchy, especially with what she puts ont' telly! ?
  7. Doubted about 17 hmr for years. Today I shot 9 squirrels with the 455. Nothing remarkable there but this farm has been plagued with crows. Today I gently poked around some round bales my rifle to bring about on a field full of crows pecking at drilled grain. The wind was not quite but mostly on me. I proceeded to shoot four crows, one after the other. Some left but some stayed. They couldn't of heard the rifle down wind from them and also they just ignor the crop scarer they have been listening to for months! The closest was 75yd or so. The far one 130yds or so. All just aim on.
  8. Mine wasn't to bad except for when using short cartridges , 67 or 65mm. The shell lifter would ram the front of cartridge into the barrel extension and halt the cycle. I observed the action and realised the tip of the shell holder just needed spreading a little and it worked then with any length cartridge.
  9. I have a 457 and now a 455 both in hmr. My wmr I had was a 452. There is honestly nothing between them. The 452/455 is like an old friend, reliable and familiar, the 457 is the son of but got some of the mother in it! ?
  10. It's funny how some work and some blow up! Glad no one was hurt.
  11. Pretty sure I've had 18 fox's this year so far. What is the tally with you fellers?
  12. Mixed ground. Some is sticky and yeah, a pain. On a side note, I asked my Mrs for a little zip up purse for my hmr ammo. Look what the sick woman gave me!
  13. Intercepted my lamp shy vixen and a dog barking it's head off earlier. The vixen was cut off from its escape rout but worked it out, it was comical how she ended up in front of my car as I looked back at it. The dog fox continued barking until she gave a little scream and he shut up never to be heard again! I love these little interactions. Only two I heard all night on my place. You guys hearing any?
  14. Shoot them. I've shot tones of old ammo like that?
  15. I didn't mean decrease the chucks Gav lol. I mean crows, geese and gulls for starters ?
  16. Looks like war issue stuff to me. ICI made good ammo. Looks well kept. The lead usually oxidises. Could be army training ammo. I see a few eley mixed in them. Is there a date on the box?
  17. Bird flue case are at an all time high. So should we be encouraged to attempt to decrease numbers of certain species before another disaster appears, the destruction of British chickens and eggs? Or will the vegan agenda over rule!
  18. I would love to do it too but I can see how it could become a chore. Especially if there was that many and no outlet for them. Then it would stop being pleasant.
  19. That little dog won't peel one! I've seen buzzards not bother with them but fox's seem to cart them off.
  20. They are much cleaner than rats si, and choosy about what they eat mate. I don't have an issue with that, it's peeling the blighters. Mind you, should be easy for a big bricky like thee sen si ?
  21. I've shot some at weekend, fat as cats, been chomping down chestnuts and maize. If they weren't so difficult to peel it would be worth cooking them going off their diet.
