  1. Two reasons. Respect for the quarry and respect for the limitations of the little bullet. I also consider it good practice to reload quick and be back on target. I guess a third reason could be, assume nothing.
  2. You know what mate, for how much it costs and the fiddling involved last night after the shot I thought how it would of been so more simple to just use a gun light!
  3. ...the Wulf nails a vixen. Screaming her head of and very much still in season I moved in and she came my way. Just 60yds or so. 17 HMR. Slightly out of focus but I did ok. I bumped into my fallow I've been after all season. They were couched not 200yds away from shooting the vixen and ignored my walking. But the moment I stopped to film them they got spooked. Filmed on my sytong 66. Superb night. A gentle breeze, new moon and a super clear array of stars, bliss.
  4. Sounds like some common sense penetrated politicians. Please send some over here! The folding stocks should be good for skis, skidoos and packs yes?
  5. Slugs. Sometimes shot can what they call ball. Clumps of pellets stick together to form a narly slug. Only ever had it happen once to me and ruined the pheasant. Other than that I don't know mate.
  6. Two boxes! More like three. Mrs isn't having chips this week!
  7. 43 down for 77 shots. About the norm for me. To be fair the blind was in the wrong field and the birds were coming from behind and it was very slow going. It was a rush job with no prep time. I was off the flight line by a good ways. That said the topsey turvey Valmet was a joy to shoot. Pulling off some good shots it felt natural and neutral to the eye and shoulder. Just up and shoot. Made for a nice change.
  8. I think S&B make their own but not sure.
  9. Maybe one you just missed?? My granddaughter found one I had OKed! Glad you checked.
  10. Take a look at the forend. Is it a plastic shoe that fits the the reciever? If it's ever so slightly loose it will disturb barrel harmonics. If you can pack it so it is a snug fit things should improve.
  11. Handi handicap...is that to do with the fore end to action joint. Don't they sometimes need packing tighter?
  12. Dam thing didn't show. I enjoyed watching the hares. Can't figure this one out. Might be the car. I'll try on foot next. See what the camera says tomorrow.
  13. I do have newer Hornady in stock and stopped checking it. It does seem better made. I often get old stock offered to me cheap. That I check. I wondered if they softened the brass sheet more before starting to work it.
  14. I always say patterns over habit. They have patterns or runs but you can never set your watch to them. I'll be looking for fallow this afternoon but if I can I'll be back there at 8. To many lapwing, snipe, larks and meadow pipets on this farm!
  15. Yes sir. Did it the other day and check the photos of my arrival.
  16. ...bleddy fox has been coming to bait at 5:30am all week. So I get up a 4am and wait till light. Nothing but hares. Go check camera.... bloody hell ?
  17. Just bin the split ones and you will not have any problems or need to carry a rod. Get over the annoying fact that is and anyone can enjoy the cartridge with no worries.
  18. Winchester make their own. CCI make pretty much everybody's after that. S&B make their own I believe but for some obscure reason we don't see any of them.
  19. Today I tested some recently acquired old HMR ammo that I removed any pre split necks from. Shooting at nearly 300 yds. All were on zero and grouped well considering I was shooting off the side of a tree. Winchester, federal and a few CCI. Old stuff. Only the CCI split after firing but did not effect accuracy.
  20. I check all mine. It takes minutes and means there will be no issues.
  21. I have an atec wave on one HMR and another modular atec on another HMR. Can't tell the difference.
