  1. Well done mate, now you've started you willbe hooked! Enjoy!
  2. The bull whippet is coming on nicely, hes a few months younger than mine but showing excellent potential, the guy who owns him wants to put him over a whippet bitch (when hes done some proper work, and stayed at it) because hes just that bit too heavy and short in the leg, if it does happen, ill be having one of the pups for sure!! Glad hes coming good, what work have you got in mind for him once hes ready?
  3. They use a few boxer crosses for pigs in australia, seen them on a few sites, and i assume they wouldnt be kept if they couldnt do the job. That said, a coyote is a very different quarry and i doubt you would get the stamina needed from a first cross. Even line bred coyote dogs have a high percent of wastage so it may be a bit much to expect from a first cross out of unproven parents. The only 100% way to find out is to try one as the pups are already imminent but its not a cross that appeals to me. Good luck and keep us posted
  4. A good informative post, I love to hear about different ways of hunting from around the world More of these posts and less slanging matches would do this site a world of good. Thanks zagman
  5. Well done mate, hows that bull whippet type your mate got in crawley coming on? Looked like he had potential
  6. Me and Assasingirl took the dogs away this weekend for the first time this year. it wasnt a serious hunting adventure although the dogs had a couple of rabbits each day as we mouched through the fields to and from the beach. My ferreting over the winter dosent seem to have had much affect as the place is still heaving with rabbits, still it bodes well for next season Check out the wear around one of the holes and the rabbit damage on the crop margins. Looks like a few serious nights out with the dogs and rifle are in order! The beach gets very packed but we went early in the morning
  7. There handy looking dogs there tyla they look like they can snap them rabbits up for fun on and off the lamp mate Thanks mate, they do me fine most of the time
  8. Thanks mate, hes turned out well. it may be because the dam was whippet and the sire russell. They may have taken more to the russell if it were the other way round. The rest of the litter turned out similar, up til recently most were owned by members on here but i think most have been sold on now. Good luck with whichever cross you choose
  9. The easiest way is just to buy a set of barnett elastics, you can get them from most shooting or fishing shops or, failing that, ebay. Make sure they really are the barnett ones as the cheap copies are crap.
  10. My missus, Assasingirl, has a whippet russell bred by dogger off here. He is nearly two and is growing into an outstanding little dog. He works great bushing, with ferrets and on the lamp. He is 21" to the shoulder and, at times, puts my 24" bitsa to shame! We were lamping at the end of last season and he took 6 out of 7 slips. He has also had some success at other things He is plenty fast enough for rabbits in the open and will get in cover although he dosent so much since we got the terrier. His only downside is that he can be a bit leary with other male dogs and very vocal when excite
  11. You can tell the seasons over and everyones prowling around with nothing to do. All the old arguements get an airing i run dogs, ferret and shoot, i even sometimes go fishing. i also support everyone elses right to do the same things. Talk of all shooters being blood thirsty, unskilled killers are no more true than all dogmen being poachers without respect for boundaries, stock or close seasons. There are twats in all walks of life and they end up getting everyone tarred with the same brush. Can anyone answer me this question - is there anything constructive about us all fighting
  12. i do a fair bit of bushing using a mixed pack of terriers and lurchers, dont seem to have any problems with them crashing into each other. i wouldnt do it on the lamp though as i reckon there would be more danger of it then. And no, its not illegal
  13. Funnily enough me and Amy (assasingirl) were wondering what happened to this idea the other day. i know shes still up for it, when and wheres it happening exactly? Did a charity get decided on? if its not decided then my vote is for lurcher link
  14. Nice to see a few sussex posts on here Looks a good place Mike, i bet you have fun in the winter!
  15. Thanks, herdwicks four terriers do most of the hard bit in the bushes, aided and abetted by Ollie while the lurchers are supposed to do the catching. Sometimes it all works to plan and sometimes not but its great fun either way
  16. The usual Sunday morning bushing trip with herdwick today, Tyla's first time out hunting since her injury in december. All went well, Tyla took an adult flushed by the terriers and the terriers took a couple of young ones. We flushed a few more but they managed to escape for next time. A beautiful day to be out and saw plenty of other game around too. Thank you, once again, to herdwick

How did you sort it SJM? its driving me crazy, have to wait 5 mins before sending another dont sound too bad but i had 20+ messages the other day about items for sale and it took forever to reply to them all
  18. Thanks p***y, so half morning and evening? i also have penicillin vk 250mg, would they be better? They are both in tablet form
  19. My bitch has an infected paw from a blackthorn. She needs a course of antibiotics and i have these. They are broad spectrum and contain amoxicillin 500mg and clavulanate potassium 125mg. She weighs 21 kilos so i think i wil need to split them up for her but dont know what proportions to use. Thanks
  20. We got Ollie in february as a rescue with the idea of using him to flush to the lurchers, he was between 7mths to a year and supposed to be a border x. He is a bit big at 16 tts and started out a nightmare, he knew nothing and had barely had any contact with other dogs. He acted like a 8week old puppy in a huge body! Anyway, he has been a real struggle and driven me and my OH up the wall but has started to come good. Its mainly thanks to a member of this site who has kindly taken my out with his pack of bushing terriers who, in turn, have shown Ollie the ropes . Today he caught hs firs
  21. i got my ferret the same week as i did my cocker pup they been togerther from day one now one hell of a team that was 3 years ago now got 5 fettets and a new cocker pup and se is the same even goes out side picks them up and fetches them in =the house when they are working she leaves them to work as if she noes rabbitrs wil be out in a min lol saying that i would not trust a jack rustel or a dog like that with them there instinct is to kill and that what you got to wach with them My lurchers are fine with them but i dont trust the terrier. i got him at a year old though so he didnt
  22. Be bloody careful with stopper pad injuries, just had my bitch off work for nearly 4 months due to one. She sliced right across below it and up one side, it was half off. Got it stitched rested her three weeks and as soon as she went off the lead it burst open again. That happened twice and ruined most of last season for her, after the last time i got it sown up and have lead walked her for 7 weeks. She has healed well now but still bandage her before she in excersized just in case! Good luck!
  23. Well done mate, hope they turn out to be all you want them to be. Seen the pics of the parents working so looks like they've got the right stuff in them! Couldnt tell you how many though as i've never bred dogs. Good luck with them
  24. Good luck to you both, fingers crossed
