  1. I dont know this guy but I wonder if he would be happy about seeing his full name all over the internet for anyone to see?
  2. I work a JRTxwhippet which may be similar to yours. Ours is a great little dog, very agile with good feet and excels in rough terrain. He is very good on rabbits and has strength to spare for other things. If yours turns out like him you with have a handy little dog. There are a few pics of him if you search on this forum. Good luck!
  3. Welcome, Im pretty local to you and get out with the dogs and ferrets quite a bit. Id be happy to give you a day out over the season if you would like. Just drop me a PM
  4. That dog looks capable enough to me, as far as you can tell from a photo, but I would never have guessed it was half brittany! Seems to me people are too bothered about crosses and percentages etc, if the dog does the job why worry? There are plenty of "bitsa" lurchers out there with who knows what in their make up. If your dog does what you need it to do then that should be good enough?

Opinel, the quality cant be beaten for the money
  6. Well done mate, I've not been out on the lamp yet this season but they've been catching alot in the daytime. Making slow progress with Tylas retrieve but progress nonetheless!
  7. Well done both of you! Its a great feeling!
  8. Im afraid I havent got any for you but is there any chance of you sending me yours? I know its cheeky but just got a new phone that I can put mp3s on so Im dying to try it out!
  9. Get her to the vets mate, if its nothing serious then it wont cost much and if its more serious then they can help. Better safe then sorry and shes a lovely bitch too. Good luck!

A few escaped from Lenardslee gardens near here after the 1987 storm. There were a fair number about a few years back, used the wreck the pheasant feeders, but i dont know if they are still around
  11. Im not exactly local, about an hour away, but you'd be welcome to come out with me. Ferreting, lamping and bushing. Better to wait til the season starts though as im just bushing to keep the dogs fit at the moment. You got your own dogs?
  12. The most sensible thing i've read on this thread. Wish i had enough time spare to worry about this kind of crap, luckily there seems to be plenty of other people with nothing better to do
  13. Would do mate but your a bit far, good luck!
  14. Some great ideas, thanks We're going the spend the evening (again) seing whats available on the net. I will let you all know what we choose, in the meantime please keep the ideas coming!
  15. I reckon I should steer clear of any hunting based holiday as we do plenty of that at home, anyway plenty of time in the future for hunting hols We fancied a safari but i dont think the budget will stretch to that, she wanted to see the northern lights in canada but its the wrong time of year, we need to hurry up though, if we're not careful we will be still trying to decide on our wedding day!
  16. Me and my other half, assasingirl off here, are getting married next month but we cant work out where to go on the honeymoon. Any suggestions? Cheers
  17. I camp out as much as I can, with or without the dogs. Sometimes me and the missus, sometimes a mate and sometimes just me - I love it! Try a hammock and ditch the tent if the weather looks good, nothing beats falling asleep looking at the stars and waking with the sun! In winter we camp on our permission so as to be on the ground early to start ferreting. Its a good feeling to get up before dawn when the tent and the ground is all crunchy with frost and then make a coffee, snuggle back into your sleeping bag and watch the sun come up!
  18. My bitch did this in the middle of last season, its was a nightmare. She seems ok now but it took about 4 months. It opened up twice and had to be restitched. After the final stiches I kept her in the house for 3 weeks and then lead road walks only for another 8 weeks. I kept it strapped all the time she was outside and even did this for a month after she was able to be off lead. As I say, it seems ok now and she has had a bit of work since but I will have all my fingers crossed at the beginning of next season when we start properly. My advice is get it stitched asap and and then rest it a
  19. Just had a look at the sacs site, looks good but will it cover me in sussex? Seems to be Scotland and Northern ireland based?
  20. Thats a fair comment, i cant comment on other peoples dogs working abilities as mine are far from perfect. i just cant understand how anyone can stand there with their dog doing somersaults on its lead and screaming its head off and not try to stop it. Mine are keen but they know i wont tolerate noise like that so it seems unfair to put them in a position where they are the only ones not aloud. My older bitch used to open up on rabbits after coming back from injury and it took alot of work to stop her doing it so i tend to shy away from anything that encourages the trait. Just my opinion thoug
  21. Sounds good, but what does SACS stand for?
  22. I want to get insured as Im after a new bit of ground and the owner likes that kind of thing. Just been on the BASC site and its £64 a year which seems a bit steep especially as the guns only really come out as a last resort when the dogs cant. Any other options?
  23. i've been lure coursing a few times but wont do it again. i cant stand the other dogs screaming to get at the lure, not their fault but down to slack owners. My dogs are primarily hunters, thats why i keep them and i dont want them learning any bad habits ( they have enough already!) off their plastic bag obsessed running mates. Never seen a fight break out racing but seen enough daft stuff to have lost interest in the lure coursing game. its a shame really as both dogs love it and the bitch does well. The worst thing is i can keep mine quiet but its not fair on them when all around them are s
