Sheep farmer rang me earlier saying there’s quite a few rabbits about so would I go up, I thought “ farmers millions “ and I wasn’t wrong, took the HMR and shot everything I seen, which was 5, went back to the van, got the caller and the .243, had a fox at 179 yards and the bugger did the death run straight into the rape and I couldn’t find it, I hate it when that happens

Cod with a chive and lemon panko breadcrumb, garlic and thyme hasslebacks and griddled asparagus
-
Last night, chicken in prosciutto with hassle backs and creamed leeks tonight, harissa grilled chicken with a Mediterranean veg stew and crispy new spuds, very nice

Yeah, they go well when you can just flood it in, no steel so no need to tamp or vibrate it and the good thing about using the belt mixer you can stiffen it up to dam it at the end of a run unlike the drum mixer where you get what you are given

All in and bolts all set, think I need to go back to school, I worked it out at 36 cube and it came in at under 30 so customers happy with a few hundred quid saving
-
I don’t want to jinx it, but this is going very well, just waiting for the last load so should be done by one o’clock

We have always had separate accounts and one joint account that we both pay into each month, it was more that my earnings were way above what she earned and she could spend money like no ones business, now she earns 3x what I do so a joint bank account might be a good idea ( lol )

Whooooo, everything is right, shed lad has turned up and lined it out and it’s square, building control have been out and wasn’t happy with one of the steps so a little hand dig to create a second step and that’s fixed, hopefully the pour goes well tomorrow and then that’s me until the floor is to go in
-
Deepest one I’ve done was just under 3m because of trees, most now put rafts in which is a lot more work and a load more money
-
Lot of hand digging on this job, I suppose it’s good practice for the under pinning job I’ve just been offered, quick workout this morning and the foundation is coming to around 36 cube give or take a couple, so it will be a busy day tomorrow getting all that in along with the foot plates for the steels

We’ve decided to ignore the plans and put in bigger foundations there’s a chance the owner is going to submit planning to convert the new shed into two houses in a couple of years time, they wouldn’t let him do it with the old shed because it would be classed as a new build not a conversion, there’s more than one way to skin a planning officer

Beef stock, veg stock, black peppercorns, shallot, carrot, thyme, tomato purée and a spud to thicken it all when I blitz it for the gravy
-
Picked up a nice bit of brisket yesterday, so that what we got for today

Out for food this evening with a couple of friends, food was absolutely superb, I went for a toasted crostini with black pudding, bacon and poached egg for starters ( forgot to take a picture, it would make an amazing breakfast) and then sea bass, crispy new potatoes and a leek fondue, 4 of us, including drinks 160 quid, absolute bargain given the standard of the food

I went up to the shoot tonight to look for a end of season fallow buck, the old girl at the farm said that there’s a lot of rabbits over the far side so I went for a look, I’ve never seen that many up there for 15 years, one small grass field must of had 60 in it and that was in daylight, I shot half a dozen but the .243 is a bit too expensive to be shooting rabbits
-
I can’t complain it’s a lovely little cafe, I’m off out to a nice country pub tomorrow night with friends and tonight I’m off up to the shoot so will be popping into Tommy Banks place to see when I can get a table there, hopefully for my birthday in a couple of weeks
-
Nowhere near Mack’s culinary delights, but the little village cafe is always a good place for a quick feed
-
Seeing a lot of young about now, fingers crossed they make it through the summer and I can have a few good nights on the stubble’s after combine
-
