So, last night didn’t go to plan to say the least, I arrived at the shoot around 8 and made my way to the far side ( back of the piggeries towards the campsite) the lad was still taking bales off the field and wouldn’t be done until about 10, so for the next hour while he cleared the top of the field we had a walk around the piggeries on the look out for a buck seen as I took the .243 with me. Nothing showed so we headed back to the cut field to shoot a few rabbits, after shooting 4 or 5 I turned around to see if farmer Bob was done and seen about 10 people from the campsite at the edge of the

Good on him, that will be a proper confidence boost for him ? P.S. I missed one tonight ?

We’ll sort something out, with a bit of luck everything will be down by the first week in August ?

Yeah, it soon comes around, I normally get to see what’s about when I’m on my feeding rounds, but I’m off this next week so I’ll be spending a bit more time up there, on foot, not on the quad so should see them if there about ( might do a first light walk out to see what’s kicking about)

The things we find enjoyment from, so might say we are mental ? I’ve just been told that the barley has come off at the shoot and they are bailing now, so I’ll be having a trip up there tonight for a look about I’ll keep my eyes open for a fallow buck for you ?

The likes of the sheep farm and my mates couple of farms you can shoot them on the lamp no problem, up at the shoot is a different matter, but I think most of this is down to disturbance from walkers, the campsite, forestry workers etc, rather than the lamp -
If it’s just doggers then that fine, everyone needs a hobby, but if it’s something more sinister then I’ve noticed that a bit of spontaneous combustion would normally solve the problem

I still love going out with the rifle and a lamp, I’ll be up at the sheep farm this week, with the .243 and a torch on the lookout for a ginger ? -
Italian summer vegetable stew with garlic bread, very nice ?

What do you think of that infiray thermal? I had a play with there mid range one and for about a grand it was decent, still not a patch on the new helion 2, longshanx has got one and without a doubt it’s the best thermal I’ve used -
For me 3” is more than enough for duck and sensible geese the only advantage I can see from a 3 1/2” is a bit more punch for far out geese

Thought that might of been ok with it having beefy in it, but no, it was sh*t

It’s such a nice evening Dave and as yet I’ve nowhere to go, so I think I’ll join you ( maybe not 8 ?) and I’ll give this new fishing program a go on the idiot box ?

For some reason that doesn’t surprise me ? -

I normally go to the northern shooting show and what was the CLA ( game fair ) when it was up this way, mainly to meet up with a few people I don’t see very often, The first time I went to the shooting show people were covered in cammo , I thought I’d turned up at a paintball convention, Some fat bloke even had a pair of real tree joggy bottoms on ( didn’t even know they made them ) and the amount of p***y’s covered head to toe in Barbour is mad, they stand out like a sore thumb and the stall holders don’t take their eyes off them ( with good reason) also met Geoff Garrod once and had a chat, -
I been up my mates farm today doing a little fencing job for him, the new Holland mechanic was there settling the cutting head up on his 21 plate combine ( to go with his 19 plate, tracked combine ) parked up alongside his 20 plate tractor, new drill and new grain trailer, another skint farmer ?

Not long now Dave and it will all be down, most of the barley is ready now, rape’s a bit behind up here ( about 3 weeks away) and the wheat looks between 3 or 4 weeks, then we can fill our boots ??

You should be fine with a SGC application, just wait and see, most forces just make it up as they go along ?

Looking at the weather for the rest of the week I would of thought it will be down at the sheep farm ? I’m off for a week from Thursday so with a bit of luck I’ll be able to get a bit of foxing in and maybe a buck, I’ve seen 2 up there the last couple of times I’ve been there

A walk out in the sun at the egg units, they have definitely got a bit more wise, only managed 4 around the sheds with the .22, thinking this might be the case I took the .17 with me, back to the car and swapped rifles and headed down the old horse gallop, another 8 in quick succession, with a bit of luck luck some barley will be down in the next week to 10 days so I’ll be able to get out a bit more ?

He moved to the headlands and thinks it’s a lovely place to live ? It must of been proper ruff where he’s from in Glasgow, I worked with him for a few years and he was sh*t at his job, but the gaffer was to scared to sack him because he was an absolute nutcase ex squadie, I’d wouldn’t of thought any monkey hanger would give him much bother, some of the stories and pictures he’s showed me from when he was in Afghan were shocking

Bullet availability problems
Stavross replied to shovel leaner's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I use the sako 90gn soft point for deer and if I shoot a fox with them it’s straight through but them 70gn ballistic tips wreck them -
It’s a stunning place, I worked up there a lot when I was younger, the main places I worked were Livingston and Bathgate and they were proper ruff, but two minutes up the road was some of the nicest countryside you could be in, I’ve got a Scottish mate ( from Glasgow) who now lives in Hartlepool, he moved to Hartlepool because it’s a proper sh*t hole so it felt more like home ?
