  1. I’m really pleased with them, I’d be even happier if people would do what was asked of them, one of the other members was told to fill the mobile drinkers, but never bothered, they were all bone dry when I went up, it’s things like this that could mess it up, all because he just wants to walk around with his lad, taking pictures and putting them on Facebook telling people he’s a gamekeeper ?
  2. Birds have been in a couple of days now and have settled well, they are very quiet and as we know, quiet birds are happy birds, with them being a little bit older and going in a little later they can fly a short distance so there was a few outside the pen, which did walk back in without any problems, looking at the way they are now and if the weather stays the way it is I think I’ll be lifting the wire this time next week and setting them to wood, but we’ll see what state these little sh*t machines make of the pens over the next few days
  3. It’s turned it into a different scope, it’s so clear that caller is quality, it’s just a shame you need a tractor to pull it around the field
  4. Once I got it set up ( didn’t take long, even for me ) it’s unbelievable, it picks up even the smallest heat source, I’ve used the one before this a lot and that’s not rubbish by any means, but comparing the 2 last night the Helion 2 is a lot clearer It could completely ruin deer stalking ?
  5. Have a look at the “ back up at the shoot “ thread, it will give you an idea how I do things, if you can get through all the nonsense on there, mainly from BenBhoy ?
  6. Just keepering, I still really struggle with life, I don’t understand people ?
  7. Came in to hare distress, but to be honest the speed it came in I would of thought it would of come in to anything, young and dumb The one I’ve got picks up a lot more than my mates
  8. I’ve been involved with shoots for a long time now, but it’s only in recent years that I’ve become a part time keeper, everything I’ve learned is from people on my shoot, other keepers and anyone else I can bother with my endless questions, I’m learning all the time but think I’m at a point now where I know enough to get by ?
  9. New IR, new sticks, new thermal and a new fox ( well, one of this years ) that’s one expensive bitch it must of been from an early litter as she had a bit of weight to her and was in showroom condition, the shot was 126 yards
  10. ? I’ll find where they are hanging out and when we go I’ll put the thermal away
  11. Welcome, make your way to the rifle section, some good people on there, that would appreciate hunting stories from the other side of the pond ?
  12. My new toy arrived this morning and it would be rude not to give it a run out this evening I’d like to say a massive thank you to Tom at nightmaster, I gave him a ring yesterday afternoon, told him what I wanted and with a few quid off ( he’s knows what I’m like ) he sent it straight out, arrived before 10 this morning, this lad gives a service that’s second to none and the after sales is just as good, if any of you are looking for, thermal, NV, torches etc, give them a look, they go out of their way to help you out ?
  13. Weather looks spot on for the next 10 days, so fingers crossed they will settle well and I can keep them in the pens a little longer ive no idea what they will do about this BOP, it’s been missing for a few weeks now so I wouldn’t of thought it will come in to a bit of chicken on a glove now
  14. Well that’s it, I’m all set for the birds arrival tomorrow, feed and water in and around the pens, the birds will be here at 6am and much to my amazement 4 members volunteered to go up i mentioned earlier that a BOP had escaped from a local estate and had been seen around the shoot, well I got a glimpse of it tonight and although I didn’t see it long enough to identify it, it’s bloody massive, now I not worried about it killing 800 birds but I am bothered about it scaring the sh*t out of 800 birds, so I now need to contact the estate to find out what is going to be done about it ?
  15. I was watching something a while back and there’s already technology that pick up a heat source and zeros itself on that target, it won’t be long before it’s small enough to sit on top of your rifle, I’ll maybe get one and start letting my mate shoot foxes again ?
  16. That’s how we started out, spot light off the front of an XR2, I’ve recently just sold my lightforce variable power lamp with over the shoulder man bag battery bag
  17. Up until a couple of years ago we still used to go and run a few rabbits once the winter drilling’s went in, but with mosh having a heart attack and me being more involved with the shoot and all the other shooting related activities, sadly those days are over now i think I’ve put this picture on before, I have very few from back then, because we had no cameras on phones, come to think of it we didn’t have phones, Mosh looks really young here, he’s about 53 now
  18. I used to love it, I’d be out 3 or 4 times a week, my mate Mosh was one of the first people in the country to be convicted under the hunting act, no jail, but he got a big fine ( can’t remember how much) they confiscated his car, he had a load of restrictions on where he could be and had to tell them what car he was driving, all for something that should never of been past into law
  19. I maybe should of stated my snaring days were a good while ago and the ones on the sheep farm we didn’t snare we ran the dogs on them on the lamp ? simpler times, rabbits, hares, foxes, deer, none of them shot, but a change in the law put a stop to most of it, it’s sad that a lot of youngsters will not see or learn some of these skills that protected stock and fed people, when I talk about this kind of stuff with people it’s like it was in the Victorian times, but it wasn’t that long ago that it was the norm ?
  20. That’s something I’ve never done up here, just because I can’t check them every day, I’ve stopped using the cage traps for the same reason and I’m sick of finding pigs in them, them buggers can wreck a trap, me and my mate Mosh used to hammer the sheep farm with snares and got a lot of foxes, we only stopped because of what I would call an accident with the farm next door and his wife’s favourite ginger cat ?
  21. Yeah, I had to ring the rifle and myself out when I got home, I’ve used a lot of thermal and the pulsars are by far the best, for me it’s not only for shooting but they are ideal for checking where the birds are roosting, as I’m tight as a nun’s chuff I thought I’d use the money from uncle Ray because it’s money I wasn’t expecting and wouldn’t miss, we can get out whenever suits us both, all the crops are down now ?
  22. RIP great uncle Ray, it’s what he would of wanted ?? i had a run up the shoot this evening to put the elec fences on and some bird scare tape across the pens because there’s no chance of me getting up there during the day tomorrow, my god it’s wet. I popped to the farm just to let the old girl know I was about, she said I’m glad you have come up there’s a fault with the electric fence around the beast field, so after 20 minutes I found where it was earthing out, quick repair and it was back up and running, always pays to do these little jobs up there. As I was up there and the rape and wh
  23. I’ve just got off the phone with him, they will have everything down on the farms his mate Ric manages for the 4th of September, they haven’t shot anything on this land yet and know there’s at least 3 litters on there, they said they’ll leave it for me to shoot, with robin spotting and filming and Ric driving us round shooting from there converted freelander, I’m really looking forward to going down i’ve just been out to try and find a replacement for the Pbir after been messed about a bit trying to get a Solaris, anyway speaking to a lad I know he said you can’t get a dragonfly anymore s
  24. It’s absolutely chucking it down here and it’s apparently set in for the day, which is a bit of a bugger because my mate rang me last night to tell me all the wheat is now off so was hoping to get out later as the wedding anniversary may stop play tomorrow It’s good to see the birds out on the stubbles, a lot of shoots around this way haven’t put as many birds down and some of the small syndicates haven’t bothered at all, my birds will be here 6am Tuesday morning, we are always the last to get them, we used to push for them for the end of July but there was no benefit to us, so we now don
