  1. Roast beef, cream mash, garlic and thyme roasties, home made yorkie puds and gravy, probably about 4000 calories, time for a nanna nap ?
  2. Good luck ? no mist up there and I managed to dodge the rain until just after 11
  3. Back to the sheep farm tonight and put an end to my run of bad luck ( sort of) went to the far side of the farm on the field of cut barley, 50 minutes in and spotted a fox at the bottom of the field along the fencing, I thought it was on the field side of the fence, took the shot and it disappeared, turns out it was sat up against the wire the other side and was down in the gutter where I was unable to retrieve it, I seen another one on the way back to the yard but something had spooked it as it was flat out across next doors field, one for another day
  4. Venison saag curry ( to make it worse I used the loin ? ) different green chilli’s, it was bloody hot sausage egg chips and beans for the missus, she won’t eat this foreign muck
  5. Sometimes when someone is being a tw*t you just have to tell them even if that means losing a good bit of rabbit shooting ?
  6. No, I lost that bit of permission through a job I was on with the owner of the paddocks, never mix business with pleasure ?
  7. Giving your head a shake ? are you made of money ? I’m just jealous, I’d love a FAC puff gun ?
  8. To be fair I had one and was offered the cz along with his cabinet, ammo, few hundred cartridges and some other bits and bobs for £200, so I thought sod it, 24 hour variation and bought it, but I see where you are coming from ?
  9. I had a walk around the sheep farm tonight to kill a couple of hours, seen one fox but sadly it was in next doors first, I didn’t fancy the shot as there’s about half a million quids worth of horses wandering around in it and try as I might I couldn’t get it onto my land, so I called it a night and went and splattered a few rabbits with the .223. I did see a good roe buck to take that had a very wonky head and will never make a good animal
  10. See if you can through the rifle at what you are trying to hit would be my guess ?
  11. That’s with zero at 100 but to be honest it wouldn’t be far off zeroed at 50 because I found there’s very little adjustment taking it from 50 to 100
  12. They are flat and fast for the first 100, I will put the crosshairs smack on a rabbit between 60 and 120 yards ( I use them for pest control so perfect head shots are not what im going for ) above 120 to about 160 I’ll rest the crosshairs along the top of what I’m shooting at ( there’s about 3” drop using 17gn rounds at 150 ) above that I start using the mil and guessing a bit, they say there’s no drop up to 100 but once you pass 100 they drop off quickly, once you get about 200 you will probably get about 8” of drop
  13. I love these little rifles and own 2 of them, I zero mine at 50 yards to start with and then take it out to 100, they are not as affected by wind as some think, I had my cz with me a couple of days ago and the lad that was using it was hitting rabbits between 70 and 220 yards with a stiff breeze
  14. ???? I’m about to lose my sh*t up at the shoot, back up tonight on the cut barley again, this time with the NV set up, got there just after 9, people walking the edge of the field from the campsite, now I’m ok with this, I’ll tell them where they can be and off they’ll go, got set up and we had just lost the light and there’s 2 girls walking in the middle of the field, though I’d just let them walk on until they started walking towards where the caller was, now I didn’t want to shout at them in the dark and frighten them so I thought I’d put the torch on so they could see we were there, big mi
  15. 75% of the time I have someone with me for 3 reasons, firstly, if I’m covering a lot of ground, it’s another pair of eyes, second, it’s someone to carry things and retrieve shot stuff and thirdly, ( this just applies to the lad who comes to the shoot with me ) I can’t fart without him wanting a sniff and if I go without him his toys come out the pram when my sheep farmer mate used to come with me I’d ring him every time I was going out, before tech, when it was just lamps and mouth calls, he could call a fox using anything from his hand to a blade of grass and wasn’t interested in shooti
  16. I’ve found him a new ride, to go with his smooth radio ?
  17. I still love watching them cutting field now, even better if they let me stand on the combine with a shotgun ?
  18. Already put everything on charge, I’ll have another go maybe tomorrow weather permitting, I’ve still only got this one field to have a go at, it will be another few weeks before the wheat and oats come off ( first time I’ve seen oats up here, don’t even know when they combine them, mid August? )
  19. So, last night didn’t go to plan to say the least, I arrived at the shoot around 8 and made my way to the far side ( back of the piggeries towards the campsite) the lad was still taking bales off the field and wouldn’t be done until about 10, so for the next hour while he cleared the top of the field we had a walk around the piggeries on the look out for a buck seen as I took the .243 with me. Nothing showed so we headed back to the cut field to shoot a few rabbits, after shooting 4 or 5 I turned around to see if farmer Bob was done and seen about 10 people from the campsite at the edge of the
  20. Good on him, that will be a proper confidence boost for him ? P.S. I missed one tonight ?
  21. We’ll sort something out, with a bit of luck everything will be down by the first week in August ?
  22. Yeah, it soon comes around, I normally get to see what’s about when I’m on my feeding rounds, but I’m off this next week so I’ll be spending a bit more time up there, on foot, not on the quad so should see them if there about ( might do a first light walk out to see what’s kicking about)
  23. The things we find enjoyment from, so might say we are mental ? I’ve just been told that the barley has come off at the shoot and they are bailing now, so I’ll be having a trip up there tonight for a look about I’ll keep my eyes open for a fallow buck for you ?
  24. Cracking day out that, good on ya for putting a 12 hour shift in ?
  25. The likes of the sheep farm and my mates couple of farms you can shoot them on the lamp no problem, up at the shoot is a different matter, but I think most of this is down to disturbance from walkers, the campsite, forestry workers etc, rather than the lamp
