Steel in, just waiting for the belt mixer for the first pour at 11 ?
-
Oh dear, this thread has taken a dark turn, I’m sure there’s a troubling story behind this that none of us need to hear ?
-
?

Snap ( sort of ) horrible stuff to work with, especially when your double layering
-
Yeah, it doesn’t look good, I’ll be back feeding probably early Saturday morning so I’ll check the camera, hopefully there will be a few on it
-
Yeah, I’ve put it at the top of the ride over the piggeries, stepped out into the field and they were about 90/100 yards to my right on the ruff side of the piggeries, it was only about 3:15 ?

Working on a proper dodgy job this week, digging out for an outside underground garden room, that will have a block and beam roof with a patio on top, they couldn’t get anyone to do it because once you take out the meter of clay there’s a meter seam of sand that’s running water, got a pump running 24 hours, steel in tomorrow then first pour on Thursday, bit different to my normal views working on posh houses Pretty sure timbers and fence posts are not up to HSE’s standard ?

Back up to feed today after the weekend shoot, I didn’t see massive amounts of birds but there was birds in all the feed areas and they were on the feed as soon as I put it down, I’ve put another ( special ) feeder out with the camera on it, FH will know what this is for ? there’s a few fallow knocking about early now the weather seems to have turned, there was a definite chill in the air when I was there today

The price of fert has doubled, milling wheat isn’t a kick in the arse off 300 quid now, some one told me last week where they are that oilseed rape tipped 600
-
Stick a fork in me, I’m done topside of beef, cream mash, rosemary, thyme and garlic roast spuds, bit of veg and gravy from the meat juices And a big corn beef and potato pasty/pie type thing for me bait during the week ?
-
Nice bit of topside on the go for today ?
-
Cheers mate it has gone well, 2 more days in December and then they get a good rest from the 18th until the 8th of January so that will give me a bit of time to feed them where I want them, there’s a fair few woodcock come in on that moon

Day number 2 over and done with and what a cracking day ( the guns words, not mine ) first drive was the tip drive and as on the first day this didn’t get going until halfway through the drive, I had one out of control dog on this one that push a big group of birds out the top of the drive towards Gordon’s pen, I wasn’t happy about this but to be fair if all them birds had of stayed in the drive it would of been a massacre. Back to the yard now for a sloe gin and a bit of pork and apple pie. Drive number 2, Oakwood, again started off very slow with a few shots then we turned the drive to push

DRUM ROLL PLEASE ? name pulled from my hat ?
-
That’s an idea, no name from a hat, just the public humiliation of a dad dance off
-
I’ll pull a name from my hat when I get in from shooting tomorrow It’s between Mr Sausage and Patterdale, best of luck ? the tension is palpable ? And whoever wins it doesn’t need to pay the postage ?

Pre shoot day feeding this afternoon and the dog walkers show no sign of letting up, but I suppose it’s just something I’ll have to live with as if this was private land we as a syndicate certainly couldn’t afford to shoot here, the birds are looking in tip top condition now and were heading back to the pens when I arrived mid afternoon, I’ve made a little plan of what drives we’ll be doing tomorrow but they are not set in stone so I may switch things about a bit, I left just after sun set and over in the west was a lovely orange sun set and to the east was a very bright full moon rising over
-
There’s a few, but because I’ve been feeding them along the edge of the wood, that’s where they are heading now on a morning, it was wet up there last week and they don’t like being in the rape when it’s wet I’ve’ got the shoot captain shooting on Saturday ( it’s very rare that he shoots there and it means more work for me ) so there should be a few more downed, along with another guest, shooting for one of the members and he’s a good shot as well
-
That’s another tonne bagged up, the only part of the job I really hate, they are going to have to shoot a few on Saturday or I’m going to have to start starving them to death with the price of this wheat
-
I’m also a bit odd, I’m right handed but if I use anything like a golf club or hockey stick I use them left handed, but if it’s a racket or something where I only use 1 hand I use my right, I can’t even hold a gun properly right handed but can shoot a pistol with both, oh, and when winking I can only close my right eye and keep my left open, if I try to just close my left the both close ? when I was looking at the Bergara I’d seen them before but hadn’t give them much attention, the lad in the shop said you won’t buy anything with a better barrel, they are made in Spain ( Bergara) at one
-
When I was looking for a foxing rifle I had my heart set on a .22-250 and speaking to the lad at Bradford Stalking ( up near FH) he showed me the Bergara and for the money it was a very nice bit of kit and I was going to have one, then he tried to get it in lefty for me and was told it would be special order and would take months to arrive and the price was getting up to Sako prices, in the end I made do with the Tikka .223 and although I didn’t really want one it’s turned out to be more than up to the job ?
-
At least you are out having a go mate, you won’t get anything sat in front of the telly ?
-
That sounds like a cracking day, good mates, good host, good people and a few good birds to top it off ?
